The Mercedes-AMG C63 Will Have Its V-8 Back by 2026, Report Claims

Yahoo24-02-2025
We'll believe it when we see it, but the Mercedes-AMG C 63 might be reunited with its beloved V-8 as soon as 2026.
A new report from Autocar, citing anonymous 'sources within the German brand,' claims that a new eight-cylinder AMG motor is coming for various models — the most notable one, for now, being the C63 that's currently motivated by a four-cylinder turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new V-8 is reportedly pegged to first see the light in the upcoming AMG CLE 63 — which has been spotted in camouflaged form boasting a characteristic eight-cylinder sound — then roll out to other models.
The details of the engine in the report give us even more reason for excitement than the added cylinders. Autocar claims AMG will use its familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, but switch to a flat-plane crank design like that featured in the AMG GT Black Series. The reasoning? It would make for a more compact package, allowing the engine to fit in vehicles that weren't engineered with an eight-cylinder motor in mind. Mercedes is also rumored to use a mild-hybrid system to aid efficiency and providing an extra electric boost, to boot.
Could all of this be smoke and mirrors? Sure, but we think it has a decent chance of being on the level, because just last week Mercedes-Benz confirmed it was developing a 'next-generation, high-tech electrified V-8." It did not go so far as to specify which models said V-8 would be found in, but vehicles like the upcoming CLE63 and C63 certainly would make sense as potential homes. (Road & Track asked Mercedes if it could provide any additional details about its plans; we'll update this post upon hearing back.)
Autocar's story also suggests that even though some AMGs would be powered by V-8s, artificial sound generation could be even bolder than before. If Mercedes does go with a flat-plane crank design, the engine note will likely be higher-pitched than the cross-plane V-8s most AMG buyers are accustomed to. The additional artificial sound would theoretically make up for the deep chop-chop and burbles associated with cars like the previous generation E63 and C63.
Time will tell if AMG really does go back to V-8s, though. But in the meantime, make sure you check out our thoughts on the four-cylinder-powered C63 S E Performance on sale today.

Cadillac Elevated Velocity SUV concept previews the future of the brand's performance EVs

Boasting a lifted ride, 24-inch wheels and both autonomous and performance-driving modes, the Cadillac Elevated Velocity concept car reveals designs and features that will carry the brand's V-series vehicles into the future. With electric all-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension, the sleek SUV has gull-wing doors, a modern, roomy interior, 2+2 seating and an augmented-reality head-up display ― combining features Cadillac offers now and is evaluating for tomorrow. The concept also previews innovative ideas for desert racing, including repelling sand from its sleek four-door body and peering through dust storms. The Elevated Velocity debuts at the Quail, a luxury vehicle event in Carmel, California, on Aug. 15. The Quail is part of a weekend of events for luxury, racing and classic vehicles on and near the Monterey Peninsula. An earlier Cadillac concept called Opulent Velocity debuted at the Quail last year. What's cool about the Cadillac Elevated Velocity? Elements defy mode that vibrates the car to shed dust and dirt. That enhanced vision to peer through sandstorms. 24-inch wheels Electric all-wheel drive Air suspension Gull wing doors 2+2 seating The look of tomorrow's Cadillacs Cadillac expects the market for high-performance electric luxury SUVs to grow. The Elevated Velocity's profile ― long hood, spacious interior, short rear overhang, fastback rear end ― is consistent with the current Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq. 'Concepts are the compass for us,' GM design chief Brian Nesbitt said during a briefing on the Elevated Velocity. Other exterior touches include Cadillac's signature vertical lighting, illuminated front and rear badges, Vapor Blue exterior paint and blue-tinted windows. Full-width rear lights create a three-dimensional effect Cadillac calls a 'light tunnel.' More: It's time to recognize Mary Barra as one of the auto industry's great CEOs. Here's why. Infrared light and 'dust-phobic vibration' The Elevated Velocity has modes for interior comfort and different kinds of travel, from handsfree relaxation to desert racing. Welcome: On approach, the gull-wing doors open, soft white light bathes the interior, an animation on the steering wheel mimics shifting desert sand, V-series logos light up on interior door caps. Elevate: Autonomous driving to recover from strenuous activity. The steering wheel and pedals retract, ambient light shifts to red and the seat backs emit infrared light. The climate control system filters and perfumes cabin air; and adjusts for changes in temperature, humidity and elevation. The IR light is part of red light therapy, an experimental treatment to help 'occupants recover from vigorous pursuits.' Velocity: The driver is in charge and has access to the car's full performance. Cool white interior lighting. The steering wheel displays speed, time, batter health and temperature. Augmented reality display and navigation on the HUD. A separate set of driving modes, in addition to that enhanced vision for sandstorms and that "elements defy" mode that generates a 'dust-phobic' vibration, like a horse shaking itself clean, include: E-Velocity mode for intense on-road driving. Terra mode for peak off-road performance. Interior luxury The interior has four pedestal bucket seats. A floating center console extends from the dash to rear seats. The yoke-style steering wheel incorporates a hub-mounted display screen that's intended to be most useful when the driver seat reclines and the steering wheel retracts. The HUD delivers information to the driver when the car is in hands-on mode. Interior colors and materials include: Morello red leather for the door uppers seat cushions, cabin and floor. Cerise red fabric on the doors, dash and seat backs Garnet: A red boucle fabric for arm rests, center console and instrument panel. 3D black crystal on the doors in a pattern of 'the dynamic action of desert polo ― the clashing of mallets or motion of the horses' hooves as they sprint across a field of shifting sand.' Cadillac doesn't plan to build the Elevated Velocity, but its appearance and features will influence the brand's upcoming performance models. (TSX-V: XBOT) (Frankfurt Stock Exchange: 76M0.F) (OTC: XBOTF) (' Realbotix ' or the 'Company'), a leading in AI-powered humanoid robots, reports its interim financial results for the three and nine months ended June 30, 2025 (' Q3-2025 '). All dollar figures are reported in United States dollars (' USD '), unless otherwise stated. Q2-2025 Financial and Operating Highlights 97% increase in revenue to $615k (CAD$850k), for the three months ended June 30, 2025, compared to the three months ended June 30, 2024. 173% increase in revenue to $2.2 million (CAD$3.1 million), for the nine months ended June 30, 2025, compared to the nine months ended June 30, 2024. As at August 11, 2025, Realbotix held cash and cash equivalents of $6.0 million (CAD$8.3 million) with an estimated budgeted monthly cash burn of $385k, excluding unforeseen unique expenses that may arise. On May 13, 2025, Realbotix announced a collaboration with Tix4 to deploy an AI powered customer service humanoid robot, running concierge and ticketing AI, as a Tix4 sales representative. This robotic customer service representative was showcased live at The Venetian Resort, Las Vegas, from May 27 to 29, 2025. On May 27, 2025, Realbotix robot 'Melody' was launched and acted as a greeter at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas at the Venetian Expo offering conference attendees directions, speaker schedule, and booth locations. On July 7, 2025, Realbotix announced a new AI development with its robot able to communicate fluently in 15 major languages, with access to more than 147 additional languages and dialects through cloud-based support. On August 5, 2025 Realbotix launched a public activation of its robot 'Melody', who acted as a customer service representative at the Tix4 kiosk in a high traffic tourist location offering information and ticket sales to popular Las Vegas shows and attractions. On August 7, 2025, Realbotix collaborated with Radium to power real-time AI companions on serverless infrastructure, and deliver lightning-fast conversations for its next-generation robotic companions. 'While we are pleased to see gaining traction on robot sales, our focus in 2025 is on building the business, showcasing our robots and AI, establishing partnerships for the future, and having meaningful acceleration of sales into 2026 and beyond,' said Andrew Kiguel, CEO of Realbotix. 'Realbotix has established meaningful relationships and is laying the groundwork for more collaborations as we roll out our updated robot and AI technology. With a healthy fiat cash balance in-hand, the funding of the near-term future growth of the business is budgeted.' Corporate Treasury and Cryptocurrency Update As previously disclosed, Realbotix has been systematically disposing of its liquid cryptocurrency holdings to fund working capital and to reserve sufficient fiat capital for its ongoing operations. As a result, the Company has sold all of its liquid digital assets as of August 11, 2025. In addition, as at August 11, Realbotix holds cash and cash equivalents of $6.0 million (CAD$8.3 million). The Company currently has a monthly cash burn rate of approximately $385,000, assuming current overheads and excluding any unforeseen unique items that may arise. At current operating budget, Realbotix has in excess of 12 months of capital to meet its business requirements. While management prudently manages company expenses, the Company may look to expand its monthly burn if there is a visible return on the use of that capital. The Company does not undertake to update this forward-looking information except as required by law. While the Company had utilized cryptocurrencies as a treasury asset in the past, the volatility inherent in digital assets made it difficult for management to accurately budget for future growth that is capital intensive. Management believes this is the most prudent way to successfully finance the building of its robotics and AI business. In the future, the Company may seek to re-establish a crypto treasury strategy. The Company still has approximately 65 ETH and 9,100 SOL still under receivership with Genesis Global Trading (' Genesis '), with an approximate value, as of August 11, 2025, of $1.9 million and 1,111,111,111 Blaze token with approximate value of $31k. As a result of the uncertainty in collecting the value of these digital assets, they are carried at zero value on the Company's balance sheet. Genesis is undergoing a restructuring and there can be no assurances that Realbotix will be able to realize any value on those digital assets. A complete financial reporting package, including the Interim Financial Statements and Management's Discussion & Analysis, is available on the SEDAR+ website ( An investor call has been scheduled to discuss the Company's Q3-2025 financial results, hosted by CEO Andrew Kiguel, starting at 1:00 pm ET on August 14, 2025. These might be the best sounding headphones I've ever tested — and you won't believe the price

I loved the Dali IO-8. They're far too expensive to land a spot on our best headphones list, but they're easily my favorite wireless headphones around today. Or at least, they were my favorite — until I got to try their bigger brother. Since I first saw them at a HiFi show, I've had my eye on the Dali IO-12. Their massive, plush earcups looked endlessly tempting and the potential for sound that's even more impressive than their cousins had me salivating. Sign. Me. Up. So I procured a pair — and my goodness. I knew they'd be good, but I didn't know just how good something that costs nearly $2,000 would actually be. They're not perfect, but they sound incredible. I've seen "expensive" headphones, but Dali's over-ears take the cake. They're sublimely comfortable, feature solid battery life, and sound unlike anything I've put on my ears. Wireless audio nirvana — with the price to match. Before we can talk about what makes them well-worth their price, we have to cover their less-than-desirable aspects. Pop them on your head and you immediately turn into a robot from a '50s sci-fi animation. The IO-12 are not... small. They're quite large, from their earpads to their headband and the metal armatures that keep them together. Pop them on your head and you immediately turn into a robot from a '50s sci-fi animation, or a more fleshy version of Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet. Even the case is very large, hard and protective. It's not something that's easily going to slip into your backpack, that's for sure. A bit like early laptops, they're more luggable than outwardly easy to transport. Because travel is more of an afterthought than their primary purpose, it makes sense why their noise cancelation performance is good, but not mind-blowing. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Dali has designed and built the ANC in the IO-12 not for out-and-out performance, but to make it easier to hear your music should things get noisy. It's not going to hold a candle to the likes of the AirPods Max or the Sony WH-1000XM6, but it does enough to smother out ambient background noise. Most importantly, the ANC doesn't do anything to the sonic characteristics of the headphones. Your music sounds the same when it's on or off. That's important, because even amongst the top best noise-canceling headphones there is some sound warping that can happen when you turn ANC on. That's because the ANC algorithm is using parts of your music to counteract the noise of the outside world, and it's something that you'll often be able to detect. Well, there's no app for a start, so you can't control the EQ from your phone or adjust the ANC level. Instead, you have to rely on the on-device controls to change the settings. There's an ANC key that changes between ANC on, transparency, or off. There's an EQ key which switches between 'bass' and 'hifi', and then the playback controls on the outer panel of the earcup. You can change the volume and skip tracks with the outer roundel, and play/pause with the middle button. I love the physical controls — but they're certainly not future-facing. That's basically it for features. There's no spatial audio here for extra surround sound. No ANC mode that shifts depending on the noise around you, and no fancy extras like you'll find on the likes of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones. They're refreshingly simple. In terms of battery life, you're only getting about 35 hours per charge, which is about the same as the leading models that cost a whole $1,200 less. So far, apart from their incredible build and sumptuous leather padding (sorry vegans), there's little to show you where your money has gone. And then you press 'play.' Even if you use them wirelessly as opposed to their wired mode, the Dali IO-12 sound heavenly. There's a massive 50mm driver made in the same way as the brand's speaker drivers, using similar materials, that delivers some of the best bass weight of any headphones I've ever sampled. The record scratches of Limp Bizkit's My Way give way to the massive bass impact and Durst's bravado. The drums hit hard and fast, the distorted guitars get angry and edgy. There's detail for days in the top end, never being overpowered by the powerful bass. It's a sight to behold (or a sound to hear, although that perhaps lacks the gravitas we're looking for here) — and almost certainly not the kind of audio gear the boys were expecting their music to be played with. It's saddening to think you have to spend so much to get music to sound this good. The soundstage, a spatial representation of the audio, is something to be envied by just about every other headphone maker on the planet: The soundstage does excellent work with orchestras and jazz bands, making sure you can place each instrument accurately. It's a masterwork of sound engineering — and it's saddening to think you have to spend so much to get music to sound this good. The piano that emerges in the right earcup about mid-way through Paradise by the Dashboard light as Meat Loaf slams his fingers on the keyboard particularly shines. In perfectly audible layers you'll hear the incredible vocal clarity as Ellen and Meat Loaf discuss the various merits of their teenage love affair, the drums that clash and the bass guitar that lays down its devious groove. Plug them into a good audio source, and things get even better. The detail is dialed up to eleven, the mids widened, and the bass even more powerful. There's something massive about the way that the IO-12 sound. It certainly shows where the money goes when you spend this much money on a pair of headphones. There's zero distortion at higher volumes, making it all too easy for the dial to creep further towards hearing-damaging levels. Sure, there are expensive (and even slightly cheaper) wired options that sound better than the Dali IO-12. But here you're paying for the whole package — a pair of headphones that sound like audiophile cans without the need for a cable. Are they worth $1,750? No, there's not very much that is. Are they a sublime showing of the kind of performance you can get out of a pair of wireless headphones? Absolutely — and I adore them. If you want headphones that will allow you to hear your music in an entirely new way and have over a grand in disposable income, I'd make the case for them. But if decent sound quality is simply another feature to be ticked off in a long list, there are much cheaper options on our list of the best cheap headphones that will suffice.
