Johor water tariff hike exempts most domestic users, says Ranhill SAJ
Its chief executive officer, Anuar Abdul Ghani, said those in usage tiers one and two will continue enjoying the existing rates, with the adjustment applying only to high-usage domestic consumers in tier three and non-domestic users.
'For domestic users consuming more than 35 cubic metres per month, the rate has been adjusted by 35 sen per cubic metre, but the minimum monthly charge remains at RM10.50,' he said in a statement today.
Non-domestic users will see a tariff increase ranging from RM1 to RM1.75 per cubic metre, with the new minimum charge set at RM41.50 monthly.
Anuar said residents in strata housing using bulk metres will experience an increase of 20 sen per cubic metre, while the shipping industry will now be charged RM8.03 per cubic metre.
A new tariff category has also been introduced for data centres, which will be charged RM5.33 per cubic metre.
He said the adjustments, gazetted and effective from Aug 1, were approved by the Cabinet as a necessary step to improve water services and infrastructure resilience.
The changes would help fund the replacement of aging, leak-prone pipelines and support rising water demand due to rapid development and population growth, he added.
Among the key upgrade projects supported by the new tariff are Layang 2 Phase 2 (160 million litres per day), Semanggar (50 MLD), and Semanggar 3 (120 MLD).
'This is an investment for the future of Johor's water supply. It ensures sustainable, modern infrastructure that meets long-term needs,' Anuar added. - Bernama

This should not be happening,' he stressed. He said statistics show that two-thirds of fatal road accidents in Malaysia involve motorcyclists, with delivery riders being among the most frequent users of public roads. 'That's why we're strongly pushing for safety to become part of the working culture across the delivery sector,' he said. Earlier in his speech, Loke noted that while the government can create policy frameworks, lasting change can only happen if the private sector also takes responsibility.

Owners Must Settle All Dues Before Seized Luxury Cars Are Released
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Owners of seized luxury vehicles must first settle all dues, including road tax, insurance and compounds, before their cars can be released, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the seizures were carried out under existing laws, with no exemptions, despite reports that some owners were willing to pay a RM300 fine as it was cheaper than the annual road tax. 'Vehicles that are seized due to expired road tax and insurance will only be released after all payments are settled. 'This includes road tax, insurance coverage, and compound fines. There are no shortcuts,' he told reporters after launching the Pandasafe programme by food delivery company Foodpanda today. Loke said many owners mistakenly believe that paying the RM300 compound is enough, stressing that strict enforcement is necessary to instil a sense of responsibility, particularly when it comes to road safety. Asked if the government plans to raise the compound for such offences, Loke said the Transport Ministry is reviewing the proposal, but any increase would require amendments to existing legislation. Loke also confirmed that the Road Transport Department (RTD) has been carrying out vehicle seizures as part of ongoing enforcement against non-compliant owners. Previously, it was reported that the RTD had identified more than 1,000 luxury vehicles in Malaysia with expired road tax for extended periods. Among the vehicles flagged were Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches, some reportedly owned by celebrities and prominent business figures, who claimed the cars were only used as 'weekend cars'.
