Speaking on the issue, Lieutenant General Amardeep Singh Aujla, Master General Sustenance of the Indian Army, said, 'The first phase is that by 2025 — that is, the end of this year — we should be 100% indigenous for all our needs. But everything I have spoken about does not come without challenges. These challenges today are in terms of our production capacities — what we state and what we actually produce.'

Defence officials highlight need to boost capacities
Other defence officials have echoed these concerns, pointing out significant shortfalls in both finished ammunition and key raw materials. They noted that these limitations present ongoing challenges to meeting the 2025 indigenization goal. Nevertheless, they reiterated the Army's aim to achieve 100% indigenization across all categories of ammunition by the end of that year.
Government emphasis on self-reliance in manufacturing
Sanjeev Kumar, Defence Secretary (Defence Production), stressed the need to focus on fundamental manufacturing requirements. 'When we interacted with the private sector and also the public sector during the month of May, one thing I realized was that many of us are not able to concentrate or focus on the primary ingredients required in manufacturing. Self-reliance is necessary, and that has been the theme of the government for more than a decade. So, self-reliance not only in platforms, not only in technology and other areas of defence requirements, but also in the field of ammunition,' he said.

Five handloom weavers felicitated on National Handloom Day
The Karnataka Handlooms and Textiles Department on Thursday felicitated five handloom weavers from across the State on the occasion of the seventh National Handloom Day, celebrated to commemorate the 1905 swadeshi movement. The award has been conferred in recognition of developing new styles and designs in handloom textiles using technical skills by people involved in the handloom industry. The department categorised awards under three fields, namely silk, cotton, and wool. The winners are M.V. Prakash from Tumakuru, Suresh D.S. from Chitradurga, Tejappa Chinnuru from Gadag, Lakshmana Kakkannavara from Bagalakote, and K.M. Bajjappa from Chitradurga. Mr. Chinnuru was awarded in recognition of weaving a cotton saree with the Operation Sindoor design on it. In Karnataka, there are 54,791 handloom weavers who use 29,377 handloom instruments. The weavers in the State produce cotton wear, silk sarees, Ilkal sarees, lungis, towels, bedsheets, and others. The department said that they had spent ₹10 crore towards the weavers' package and ₹60 crore towards the weavers' samman scheme during the financial year 2024-25. The same amount has been allotted for the year 2025-26 as well. The department also said that the Karnataka Cabinet has approved building a textile park on a 1000-acre plot in Kalaburagi under the PM Mitra Park. The government will earmark ₹390.26 crore for the project, which will be taken up jointly with the Central government.

MPPSC releases revised exam schedule for 2025
Indore: Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) on Thursday issued a revised schedule for several upcoming examinations to be held in 2025. While the dates for most exams scheduled in the coming months have been finalised, the much-awaited State Service Main Examination-2025 will be rescheduled and announced separately, following the final decision of the court as the matter is sub judice. As per the notification, the State Engineering Services Examination-2024 (covering Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical disciplines) along with the Assistant Director (Culture) Examination-2024 will be conducted on August 24, 2025. The Deputy Director, Principal Class-2, and Assistant Director Technical Examination-2024 (under the Technical Education Department) is scheduled for September 21, 2025. Further, the Mineral Officer Examination-2024 (Mineral Department) will be held on September 28, 2025, followed by a combined exam for Dental, Dentist, and Assistant Research Officer posts in various departments on October 12, 2025. Candidates aspiring for the Assistant Manager (Public Health & Mechanical Department) and Assistant Registrar (Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion Department) posts can appear on November 23, 2025. The Food Safety Officer Examination-2025 will be conducted on December 14, 2025, and the Transport Sub Inspector Exam-2025 is slated for December 28, 2025. Gurgaon: In a significant regulatory shift, there is an addition of the "blue" category to the existing list of industries — red, orange, green and white. Haryana has adopted a new industrial classification framework introduced by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), adding the fifth category. Under CPCB's new system, certain industries are now classified as essential environmental services and moved to the blue category, which is more lenient. This new category is specifically for essential environmental services (EES) such as waste-to-energy plants, landfill maintenance, biomining operations and some compressed biogas units, utilities considered crucial for managing domestic and municipal waste.
