Husband gets three years' jail for assaulting wife with thermos cup

KUCHING (June 6): The Sessions Court here today sentenced a 44-year-old father of five to three years in prison for assaulting his wife with a stainless steel thermos cup.
Judge Musli Ab Hamid imposed the sentence on Tang Cheng Chong, 44, who pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code.
Tang committed the offence at a residential block along Jalan Sejingkat here on June 1, at approximately 10am.
Based on to the case facts, Tang struck the complainant on the right cheek with a stainless steel thermos cup, causing her pain and a laceration on the affected area.
The victim subsequently lodged a police report, leading to Tang's arrest the following day.
Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from an argument after Tang's beverage was accidentally spilled.
The spillage occurred when the victim threw an article of clothing in his direction, inadvertently striking the cup and causing its contents to spill. In a fit of anger, Tang reacted by hitting her with the thermos cup.
Section 324 of the Penal Code provides for a term of imprisonment which may extend to ten years, or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Section 326A allows for the imposition of a sentence of up to twice the maximum term prescribed for the offence, notwithstanding any other penalty provided under the law.

Police detain Singaporean for road rage incident in Skudai
JOHOR BAHRU: Police arrested a 40-year-old Singaporean man after he was involved in a road rage incident and alleged vandalism against another car around Tun Aminah, Skudai yesterday. Johor Bahru Utara (North) police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said after a 31-year-old local man lodged a report about the incident at 3.01 pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect at about 6.20 pm yesterday (June 8) and made several seizures. 'The complainant stated that while driving his BMW at 2.39pm in the Tun Aminah area, he was honked at by a Toyota Altis with a Singapore registration number, whose driver was dissatisfied because his path was blocked. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today. Balveer Singh said the suspect had no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru Court tomorrow (June 9) for a remand application for the case to be investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult).
