Coast Guard rescues two from stranded US yacht near Andaman coast

The Indian Coast Guard ship Rajveer was sent to the location.Rajveer reached the yacht on Friday morning. The Coast Guard team found the yacht's sail torn and ropes stuck in its propeller, making it unable to move. They established contact with the sailors and checked the condition of the boat.The vessel was taken under tow and safely brought to Campbell Bay harbour by 8:00 am on Friday. Both crew members were unharmed."MRCC activated the International Safety Net, and ICG Ship Rajveer was deployed for a rescue operation. Upon arrival, the yacht was found with its sail blown off and ropes entangled in the propeller. Sea Angel was taken under tow at 1850 Hrs and brought safely to Campbell Bay at 0800 Hrs on 11 Jul 25," ICG said.Last month, the Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued three Sri Lankan nationals who were found stranded on a sandbar near Adam's Bridge, off the coast of Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu.According to the Coastal Security Group Police, the trio had travelled from Sri Lanka in an unidentified boat. NGT seeks DJB report on sewer line work in Sangam Vihar unauthorised colonies
New Delhi: National Green Tribunal has asked Delhi Jal Board to file a report on the current status of the work on laying a sewer line in the unauthorised colony of Sangam Vihar within four weeks. Earlier in April, DJB informed the tribunal that there were a total of 44 unauthorised colonies in Sangam Vihar, of which 33 were on encroached forest land and 11 in non-forest areas. Sewer lines have been laid in 8 of the 11 such colonies. DJB further stated that of the unauthorised colonies in the forested land, 11 were partially in the forest area while 22 colonies were completely in the forest area. A tribunal order then stated that while the issue was related to solid and liquid waste management in these colonies, the tribunal cannot give a seal of approval to the colonies developed in violation of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, and other relevant environmental enactments. The tribunal also sought an explanation from the Union environment ministry, ministry of housing and urban affairs and Delhi forest department. The above officer instructing the counsel for the DJB is directed to file an affidavit to this effect within three days. Counsel for DJB has also sought four weeks' time to file a fresh affidavit," the order stated. The tribunal had taken suo moto cognisance of a TOI report titled "A Sangam of filth and apathy, this wasteland actually exists in Delhi," published in March 2024. BMC introduces new vehicles for waste management in Salt Lake & Rajarhat Gopalpur
1 2 Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday introduced 19 new vehicles of different types to collect and transport the daily generated waste from entire Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur area to the Dhapa dumping ground. The vehicles procured by BMC include 12 refuse compactors, four cesspool emptiers, two hydraulic hook loaders, and one hydraulic ladder sky lift. These were flagged off by state urban development and municipal affairs department minister Firhad Hakim, Bidhannagar MLA and fire and emergency services department minister Sujit Bose, along with BMC mayor Krishna Chakraborty and other BMC officials. "The chief minister has given me a 'mantra' to have a city free of garbage vats. In Bidhannagar, the process has started with the plan to have mobile compactors in all wards. While the waste is still being transported to Dhapa, it will be soon taken to the Patharghata waste treatment plant once it is set up," Hakim said. "A total of Rs 5.3 crore under the 15th finance tide fund for BMC's solid waste management has been spent to procure the vehicles. We want to have a vat-free clean Bidhannagar," Chakraborty added. Heaps of daily generated garbage and other waste were lately seen piling up in different parts of Salt Lake and Rajarhat as the old waste-carrying trucks were no longer in condition to collect and dispose of the entire daily generated waste. Bidhannagar MLA and fire minister Sujit Bose said that the problems which the civic authorities were facing over waste collecting system was now to be sorted out with the procurement of the new vehicles. BMC MMIC (drainage and waste management) Debraj Chakraborty said that more vehicles are in the process of being procured to cater to all the 41 BMC wards. "The vehicles will be centrally monitored through a GPS system," Chakraborty said. BMC is also in the process of installing display boards on all its vacant plots and water bodies across Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur, mentioning not to throw waste and garbage at the place, or else the offenders could be penalised in the range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Gujarat education department directs coordinators to avoid non-academic work
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat education department, under the Samagra Shiksha programme, issued a circular directing that block resource centre (BRC), cluster resource centre (CRC), and urban resource centre (URC) coordinators should not be assigned non-academic work unrelated to Samagra Shiksha. The order states that such tasks can only be given in unavoidable circumstances with approval from the state project director. The circular emphasises that coordinators are appointed to ensure the effective implementation of various education-related initiatives, including School of Excellence, PM Shri, Swami Vivekananda residential schools, model schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBVs), vocational education, inclusive education for children with special needs, and programmes for out-of-school children and girls. These require timely achievement of set targets, which gets affected when coordinators are diverted to other work. It was noted that district and taluka-level offices often assign non-Samagra Shiksha work to these coordinators, leaving them with insufficient time for core duties. To address this, the department reiterated earlier instructions that no unrelated tasks should be given.
