Lane Johnson Joins Madden 99 Club, Ends Eagles' 18-Year Wait for Gaming Glory
Lane Johnson, Eagles RT, joins Madden 99 Club after dominant season (Image credits: IG/X) Philadelphia Eagles veteran Lane Johnson has just earned the highest honor in football gaming—the elusive Madden 99 Club—breaking an 18-year dry spell for the franchise. EA Sports made the announcement on Monday as part of its Madden NFL 26 reveal, and fans immediately recognized what the developers finally did: Johnson isn't just great—he's generational. With this, the Eagles become one of just a few teams to have multiple players featured in this year's ultra-exclusive list, a testament to both talent and timing. Lane Johnson Becomes First Eagles Offensive Lineman to Reach Madden's Mountaintop In the world of virtual football, the 99 overall rating is sacred. It's not just a number—it's a badge of dominance. And now, Lane Johnson becomes the first offensive lineman in Eagles history to earn that rating, adding another layer to a career that already speaks volumes. Since being drafted in 2013, Johnson has anchored the right side of Philly's offensive line with relentless force, durability, and leadership. His near-flawless protection and unmatched athleticism have made him a cornerstone of the team's success, from playoff runs to a Super Bowl victory. 'I've worked for years to be recognized at the top,' Johnson told FirstSportz after the reveal, adding, 'To be in the 99 Club means everything to me.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Rates Undo For a position that rarely earns public spotlight, this nod is overdue—and deeply deserved. Why Johnson's 99 Rating Is Bigger Than Just a Game The last time an Eagle was rated 99 in Madden? It was 2006. For a franchise that's tasted Super Bowl glory since then, the absence has been glaring. Johnson now joins an exclusive Eagles circle that includes Brian Dawkins and David Akers, but he's the first tackle—and only the second offensive player—from Philly ever to reach this milestone. His dominance goes beyond raw strength. Johnson is known for his nearly impenetrable pass-blocking, footwork that mirrors skill-position players, and an unmatched streak of games without allowing a sack. He's not just a lineman; he's a technician and an enforcer rolled into one. The Madden 99 rating, awarded just 129 times in franchise history, elevates his legacy and redefines how linemen are viewed in the gaming world. Eagles Rise Again in Madden Lore, Barkley Joins the Party Johnson isn't the only Eagle to crack the 99 list this year. Saquon Barkley, the team's newest offensive weapon and reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, not only got the rating but also secured the Madden 26 cover. This marks the first time since 2006 that two Eagles players were rated 99 in the same year—a powerful reflection of the team's elite status going into the 2025 season. Joining them in the 99 Club are Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, and Myles Garrett, but Lane Johnson's inclusion stands out. At 32, he's one of the oldest players ever to receive the honor, a nod to his longevity and sustained excellence. As for fans, this recognition finally validates what they've known all along: Johnson isn't just one of the best at his position—he's one of the best in football. Period. Browns QB Kenny Pickett dealing with hamstring issue
Kenny Pickett, one of four players in Cleveland's quarterback competition, will miss time with a hamstring injury, leaving Joe Flacco as the primary QB1 this week. HT Image Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has been rotating Pickett and Flacco, an 18-year veteran, with the first-team offense early in training camp. Stefanski said he knew Pickett was hurt Saturday. The team sent him for an MRI exam and confirmed the injury, which will be reevaluated later in the week. "With something like this, we'll see how it goes. But his mindset, my mindset, we'll just go day-to-day," Stefanski said Monday. Rookie third-round pick Dillon Gabriel is also in the picture and has been taking the majority of the second-team reps ahead of fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders. Incumbent starter Deshaun Watson is idle while recovering from a series of Achilles surgeries over the past nine months. Pickett, 27, was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade during the offseason and Flacco, 40, who signed as a free agent and led the Browns to the playoffs in 2023, is back in Cleveland after playing for the Indianapolis Colts last season. Pickett lost his starting job with the Pittsburgh Steelers late in the 2023 season. The team moved on from Pickett before the 2024 campaign, trading him to the Eagles to be a backup to Jalen Hurts. Pickett is 15-10 as a starter and has completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 4,765 yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 30 games. --Field Level Media
