Caitlin Clark's Former Fever Teammate Temporarily Leaves WNBA Mid-Season
The Indiana Fever are still figuring out their new roster after an eventful offseason. The team made some big moves to surround Caitlin Clark with the best possible team in her sophomore year, and the new-look squad remains a work in progress.

One of the players who left Indiana over the offseason was center Temi Fagbenle, who the Golden State Valkyries selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2025 Expansion Draft.
Fagbenle has been a force for the Valkyries in their debut season, with the 6-foot-4 center averaging 10.3 points (on 54.3% shooting), 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the squad's starting center.
Golden State, however, announced on Sunday that Fagbenle will be leaving the team to attend to her international duties with the Great Britain women's basketball squad.
"Temi Fágbénlé will temporarily step away from the Golden State Valkyries to represent the Great Britain National Team at FIBA EuroBasket 2025," the team posted on X.
As the post indicates, Great Britain's EuroBasket campaign will start on June 19 against Spain. They have two more games in Group D against Sweden and host Germany on June 20 and 22, respectively.

Fagbenle's time away from the Valkyries will be determined by Great Britain's performance in the tournament. If they make it all the way to the final on June 29, then the veteran will miss a total of six games for Golden State.

One of the games Fagbenle will miss for certain is Thursday's clash against her former team. The Valkyries host Clark and the Fever at Chase Center, but Fagbenle will miss out on a reunion with her ex-teammates.

Indiana Fever ink veteran guard Shey Peddy to hardship contract
Signing follows news of Sophie Cunningham's season-ending injury update In a corresponding move with Tuesday afternoon's announcement of Sophie Cunningham's season-ending knee injury, the Indiana Fever made another roster move to address the void in the lineup. With the injury to Cunningham, the team signed veteran guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract, while officially releasing guard Kyra Lambert. Peddy, a six-year WNBA veteran, most recently appeared with the Los Angeles Sparks, averaging 5.0 points and 2.7 assists over six games on a hardship contract. Prior to her time in Los Angeles, Peddy split her career between the Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics, starting her WNBA career in 2019. Across her six seasons in the WNBA, Peddy has averaged 5.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 40.2% shooting from the floor, 31.7% from 3-point territory, and 90.1% from the free-throw line. According to IndyStar's Chloe Peterson, a Fever spokesperson informed her that the moves made as a result of Cunningham's injury do not have anything to do with the potential for Caitlin Clark's return. The Peddy signing is solely an attempt by the Fever to fill the void of Cunningham's veteran impact on the floor as much as possible. Additionally, the complications regarding the WNBA's rules on hardship waivers put the franchise in a bind, as the team has two hardship spots at the moment, which are occupied by Odyssey Sims and now Shey Peddy. Similar to the situation surrounding Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald's season-ending injuries, Indiana will have to play at least one game without Cunningham before her hardship waiver activates and the team is eligible to sign a third hardship player. While the Fever's next game is not until Friday, it will be a heavyweight matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, with tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ION. Once the team is allowed to sign a third hardship contract player, their next game on the schedule will not get any easier as the Fever will again play the Lynx from Target Center in Minneapolis on Sunday. Short-handed Fever suffer another blow as Sophie Cunningham sustains season-ending injury
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The injury-riddled Indiana Fever suffered another blow Tuesday when they announced guard Sophie Cunningham would miss the rest of this season with a knee injury. She was hurt during Sunday's victory at Connecticut. Team officials did not provide details about the injury, the third season-ending one Indiana has experienced in August. Guard Sydney Colson tore the ACL in her left knee on Aug. 7 in a game at Phoenix. Guard Aari McDonald broke a bone in her right foot in the same game. And two-time All-Star guard Caitlin Clark still has not played since injuring her right groin in mid-July. Coach Stephanie White has not provided a timetable for Clark's return other than to say the Fever hope that Clark returns before the regular-season finale Sept. 9 against Minnesota. With so many key players out, the outspoken Cunningham played a key role in helping Indiana stay in the playoff mix. She was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals. Indiana also announced it has signed Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract. The six-year veteran was averaging 5.0 points and 2.7 assists in six games with the Los Angeles Sparks. She also has played with Phoenix and Washington during her career. The Fever also released guard Kyra Lambert. ___
