‘Sink City, Koodagram': Hooda takes shot at BJP govt over Gurugram's urban woes
on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led union and Haryana government over worsening civic infrastructure in Gurugram, calling it a "sink city" and "Koodagram."

His remarks came during the question hour in Parliament, where he raised concerns about recurring issues such as waterlogging, sewage mismanagement, and poor sanitation in the city.
Speaking to news agency ANI after the session, Hooda said he had questioned the government about the deteriorating urban conditions in Gurugram, one of India's leading corporate and IT hubs.
"I asked what steps are being taken to address serious urban challenges.
In response, Minister Khattar claimed no citizen is facing infrastructure-related problems and that all urban development schemes are underway," said the Rohtak MP.
Rejecting the minister's response, Hooda added, 'the real situation is known to the people of Gurgaon, Haryana, and even nationally and internationally. The BJP government, in eleven years, has turned Millennium City into a 'Sink City'. Today, companies are rethinking their presence in Gurugram."
Hooda further alleged that many of the city's core infrastructure projects were initiated during the Congress tenure and that progress has stagnated under BJP rule.
'We are ready for a debate on this. The government must accept there is a problem and take corrective action,' Hooda added.
Gurugram continues to struggle with seasonal flooding, traffic congestion, and waste management, despite its reputation as a business and technology hub.

House panel urges MSDE to align skill schemes with local industry needs
The parliamentary standing committee on skill development has urged the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to prioritise aligning training programmes with the 'demand of the local needs for skills'. In its latest report, the panel also called for the 'early completion and publication' of skill gap reports to address workforce deficiencies, improve individual capabilities, and enhance employability by helping workers adapt to changing demands. 'The committee attaches priority to aligning skill development programmes with the demand of the region/local needs for skills and urges the ministry for early completion and publication of the report so that skill gaps are addressed, individual skills improved and adaptation to changes facilitated, thereby enhancing employability,' the report noted. The committee, headed by Basavaraj Bommai, submitted its report to Parliament on Wednesday. Concerns over PMKVY implementation Earlier, while reviewing the government's flagship Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the panel highlighted a disconnect between the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and industry. It said that training often fails to reflect actual local demand for skills, leading to a mismatch between the programme's output and local economic needs. 'The committee therefore desired the ministry to undertake skill gap assessments on a regular basis and enhance the programme's effectiveness by aligning PMKVY with the industry to match the local economic needs for making skill training programmes employable and creating a skills ecosystem with appropriate governance to improve individual skills and adapt to changes,' the report said. Skill gap study and state engagement The skill ministry informed the panel it is conducting a national-level skill gap study through the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) under the Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) scheme. It is also engaging with states, central ministries and departments, and sector skill councils (SSCs) to identify skill gaps and allocate PMKVY 4.0 targets accordingly. 'The prevalence of skill gaps and underutilisation of funds indicate that the awareness programme regarding the scheme has not reached the grassroots level,' the committee noted. Delays in PM Vishwakarma rollout The panel expressed concern over delays in implementing the PM Vishwakarma scheme in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, which have yet to set up monitoring and district implementation committees. 'The committee expresses concern and urges the ministry to pursue these states vigorously so that such committees are constituted expeditiously and the PM Vishwakarma Scheme is made applicable in all the States/UTs at the earliest,' the report said.

Senior Advocates not permitted to mention cases before CJI's Court from August 11
No Senior Advocate will be permitted to mention cases for urgent listing and hearing before the court of Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai from Monday (August 10, 2025). "As directed, designated senior counsels are not permitted to mention any case/s before the court of the Chief Justice of India with effect from Monday, August 11, 2025," a notice issued by the Supreme Court said. On August 6, the CJI had said that from August 11, no Senior Advocate will be permitted to mention cases for urgent listing and hearing in his court so that juniors get an opportunity to do it. CJI Gavai, who was sworn in on May 14, had reverted to the practice of oral mentioning of cases for urgent listing and hearing by lawyers and discontinued the practice adopted by his predecessor Justice Sanjiv Khanna. Justice Khanna discontinued the practice of oral submissions for urgent listing and hearing of cases by lawyers and asked them to either send emails or written letters instead. "There is a great demand that no matters should be mentioned by senior counsel(s)," CJI Gavai had said on August 6. He had asked the court staff to put out a notice that no senior lawyer will be permitted to mention cases for urgent listing and hearing in his court from Monday. "From Monday, no senior counsel, I mean designated senior counsel, will be allowed to mention matters. Let juniors get an opportunity to do it," the CJI had said. "This will be practised at least in my court," the CJI had said, adding that it was up to other apex court judges to adopt the practice. Usually lawyers mention their cases before the CJI-led bench at the outset of the day's proceedings for out-of-turn listings and hearing of cases on grounds of urgency.
