The 32-year-old was a half-time introduction in Saturday's 0-0 friendly draw with Leeds but was replaced in the 74th minute, then conspicuous by his absence from Tuesday's 32-man tour squad.
The PA news agency understands Maguire remained at home due to a personal matter and the player has now confirmed he will only be a day late joining up with Ruben Amorim's men Stateside.
'All is fine now,' Maguire posted on an Instagram story. 'I will be travelling tomorrow to meet up with the squad. Thanks for your concern.'
Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have unsurprisingly joined Barcelona-bound Marcus Rashford in being omitted from the travelling party heading for Chicago.
The five are searching for new clubs and have been training away from Ruben Amorim's first-team squad since indicating that they wish to explore a future away from Old Trafford.
Bryan Mbeumo is part of the group after completing his move from Brentford on Monday for a fee rising to a potential £71million.
Fellow summer arrivals Matheus Cunha, whose partner recently gave birth, and Diego Leon are also on the plane.

Lisandro Martinez is included as he continues his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in February. PA understands the United defender is not yet ready for team training.
Amorim's side are flying from Manchester to their base in Chicago, where they will play Bournemouth at Soldier Field on July 30 as part of the Premier League Summer Series.
They start the pre-season tournament at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey – host of next year's World Cup final – against West Ham on Saturday evening local time.
United finish their three-game trip against Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta on August 3.
Amorim's side welcome Fiorentina, including United great David De Gea, to Old Trafford for their final warm-up friendly on August 9 – the weekend before their Premier League opener at home to Arsenal.

Zac Sapsford gives Dundee United advantage in Conference League opener

In Jim Goodwin's first venture into Europe as boss, his side found the Luxembourg minnows no easy opponent in the first half of their second qualifying round clash. However, attacker Sapsford, one of seven new faces in the home line-up, fired in from outside the box in the 47th minute and in the end it was enough to make the difference. United's appearance in Europe was reward for their fourth-placed finish last season and albeit their lead is slender, they will hope they have enough to progress in the return game next week. Goodwin's squad had been bolstered by 11 new players and Yevhen Kucherenko, Bert Esselink, Krisztian Keresztes, Sapsford, Iurie Iovu, Isaac Pappoe and Ivan Dolcek all started and, significantly, there were no Scots in the team. Wing-back Will Ferry captained the Taysiders in the absence of injured defender Ross Graham, recently appointed skipper. There was healthy crowd inside Tannadice which created a terrific atmosphere, albeit there was hush in the eighth minute when UNA Strassen, who finished 18 points behind champions FC Differdange 03 in their domestic league, almost stole the lead. Daryl Myre escaped free of the home defence down the left and Kucherenko was lobbed as he raced out of his goal but the ball went wide of the far post. United should have scored when Sapsford, at the edge of the box, cleverly played in Vicko Sevelj who only had Ozcan to beat but his drive was saved by the diving keeper and the ball flew to safety, with Sevelj minutes later sending a long-distance effort just past the post. As the Tannadide men stepped up the pressure, Ozcan made a fine save from a Keresztes header following a corner but half time arrived goalless. However, the home side got the breakthrough two minutes into the second half when Australian striker Sapsford, signed from Western Sydney Wanderers, took a pass from Dolcek, brilliantly turned his defender 25 yards from goal and drilled a low shot past Ozcan. It was exactly the boost the Taysiders needed and they almost got a second from a Keresztes header, Ozcan acrobatically turning the ball over for a corner that came to nothing. In the 72nd minute Ozcan pushed an angled-drive a from substitute Owen Stirton on to the post and behind for a corner but again United failed to capitalise. The visitors sensed there might be something for them in the game going into the final stages and every entry into the United box had the home fans on edge, albeit Tannadice substitute Panutche Camara had a drive cleared away from goal by one of the many white-shirted defenders blocking the goal. At the other end, in added time, United keeper Kucherenko had to save from Matheus De Souza, otherwise the outcome would have been very different.

Inside Newcastle's nightmare summer from hijacked transfers to Isak drama – and why it could get worse

Eddie Howe has been struggling with problems both inside and outside of the club this window Howe's your luck? Inside Newcastle's nightmare summer from hijacked transfers to Isak drama – and why it could get worse Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) YOU CAN'T help feel a little sorry for Eddie Howe. It was supposed to be the summer that it all finally started happening for Newcastle. 7 Eddie Howe has experienced something of a nightmare transfer window thus far Credit: Getty 7 The latest blow came from star striker Alexander Isak's request to leave the club Credit: PA Not only had he secured the club's first piece of major silverware for 70 years, the Toon boss also had the Champions League to look forward to again. He achieved all of that without making a major first-team signing for 18 months while selling several members of his squad amid the battle to meet PSR rules. But it feels like all that excitement is quickly evaporating as the feelings of frustration mount. Here's why Newcastle's summer window is threatening to turn into a real dampener: ALEXANDER ISAK The Swede is THE hot topic right now and, despite the club's insistence that it's down to injury, his absence from the Far East tour and desire to see what's on offer at Liverpool only intensifies speculation over his future. All of the current drama and concern over his future stems all the way back to last summer. Former co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi had promised the hotshot's camp talks over a bumper pay rise from his current £130,000-a-week contract. But then incoming sporting director Paul Mitchell, who we have more on below, decided to postpone negotiations due to a feeling Isak was already handsomely paid and having the security of knowing he was tied down on a contract until 2028. Newcastle are willing to smash their £150,000-a-week pay ceiling and make him the best-paid player in their history but sources have indicated he wants a £300k weekly salary. Newcastle contract blunder could cost them Isak Though the last thing anyone wants is for the drama to keep dragging on and a decision needs to be made fast to avoid any potential hangover affecting the start of the season. SPORTING DIRECTOR Howe revealed he was just starting the second day of his holiday in May when the news came through that Mitchell was leaving. And with no replacement lined-up or yet appointed, the head coach has found himself playing a more central role in transfer business. That led to him, head of recruitment Steve Nickson and assistant head of recruitment Andy Howe being tasked with overseeing transfer deals. Howe revealed: 'My phone exploded. I was enjoying my second day of my holiday and that quickly went sour. 'It was a complete surprise to me. And a big disappointment because we had stability, we were planning the summer ahead and then that's a big upheaval internally that we've been through before with Dan Ashworth leaving. 7 Howe has found himself at the centre of transfer affairs in the absence of a sporting director Credit: Getty 7 Former sporting director Paul Mitchell stepped away from the role at the end of June Credit: Getty 'It's been a busier summer in that respect than I wanted. Naturally with Paul leaving, that left a hole in terms of that role. And of course someone in that role protects the manager from a lot of things. And of course his departure left that open for me to do some things that I wouldn't have normally done. 'The summer certainly wasn't a relaxing one for me to switch off and see what happens.' The search for Mitchell's replacement, which saw former Arsenal assistant sporting director Jason Ayto interviewed, now appears to be coming to a close. Nottingham Forest's chief football officer Ross Wilson is their preferred candidate and is set to be offered the role. TRANSFERS Newcastle finally had something to celebrate when Howe managed to get the deal over the line for Anthony Elanga. But the £55m arrival of the winger from Forest has so far been the only addition. Howe, and the likes of skipper Bruno Guimaraes, called for the club to move fast and bolster the wafer-thin squad once the summer market opened. But, Elanga aside, it has been a hugely frustrating window with Toon missing out on four top targets with a FIFTH now looking likely. The Magpies saw deals for Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike hijacked while Man City seem set to swoop and snatch long-term goalkeeper target James Trafford. A squad that included a host of young, raw and untested academy players was thrashed at Celtic on Saturday and that laid bare how much more reinforcements are needed. 7 Anthony Elanga joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest for a fee of £55million earlier in the window Credit: Getty 7 Newcastle's other business has not been as successful, with Liverpool snatching away top target Hugo Ekitike in a £79million deal Credit: Getty Howe said: 'My wish was for us to do our business early and we certainly tried, but it wasn't to be. 'We've had a frustrating time in terms of losing targets to other clubs. I'd be very open with that. That's happened on several occasions. 'You just have to accept it. In order for a transfer to really work, in my opinion, the player has to be desperate to come to your club. If we don't get that, the transfer doesn't work. 'We're seeking players that are good enough, that are desperate to come, and that can make the difference that they're in short supply for us. 'We're confident that we can try and get some more players in to strengthen the depth of the squad. We're certainly aware that we need to and we're trying as hard as we can to do that.' Newcastle are set to table a £30m offer for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa after the star left Brentford's pre-season camp in Portugal. 7 UPSTAIRS UNCERTAINTY The expected arrival of Wilson as sporting director will be just the latest in a series of changes in the hierarchy. A replacement for much-loved CEO Darren Eales is still yet to be confirmed. It was last September when he announced he was serving his notice after being diagnosed with blood cancer. Ex-Real Madrid executive David Hopkinson is believed to be among the frontrunners for the position. And to add to the upheaval and change, Newcastle appointed Atalanta's director of football intelligence Sudarshan Gopaladesikan as new technical director this week. He will report to whoever comes in to take over from Eales. Any club trying to operate without a proper and in-place executive team will always face issues. And the sooner the upstairs gets sorted then the better for everybody.

Goodwin laments missed chances despite Dundee United's Conference League win

Jim Goodwin was pleased to see his Dundee United side take the advantage in their Conference League tie against UNA Strassen – but frustrated they hadn't taken a firmer grip of the qualifier. Zac Sapsford scored a debut goal early in the second half of the match at Tannadice but failure to add to his goal means Goodwin accepts it's 'still very much game on' for the return game in Luxembourg next week. United have been busy in the market this summer and have seven debutants, and the manager took positives from how they were cohesive defensively, but he still feels they have plenty of improvement in them. 'My instant thought is that obviously we're pleased with the clean sheet and that we scored a really good goal,' the United manager said. 'Saps showed a bit of individual quality with a fantastic turn to create the space and then a wonderful strike. 'I think there's certain elements that we need to do better. We turned over possession far too cheaply at times tonight, which led to some counter-attacks for the opposition. 'I thought defensively we were very, very good but certainly there's moments in the game where we need to improve. 'When we did move the ball quickly and found good pockets of space, I thought we looked a threat and looked dangerous. But we've left a couple of goals out there at least. 'I would rather be sitting here with a 3-0 advantage but as it stands at 1-0 it's still very much game on.' Goodwin said that it was still 'early days' with a new-look squad and that they would aim to cut out what he saw as sloppiness in possession and a failure to move the ball quickly. He sees plenty to work on ahead of the second leg but said that there had been a little adjustment for his team to make as they moved into competitive games. 'It's obviously been the first chance for the players to play in front of near enough a full house here at Tannadice,' he said. 'We've had a terrific pre-season and played some good football in all of the games that we've been involved in but there's a real difference between friendlies and competitive football. 'There's that little bit more pressure. 'We'll learn from tonight's fixture. 'I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom. I'm just disappointed we didn't make the tie a little bit more comfortable for ourselves by taking one or two more of those good chances that we created.'
