AI 171 crash: Kerala minister V Sivankutty, ministers pay homage to victim
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 24 (ANI): Kerala Ministers V Sivankutty, GR Anil, CPI (M) General Secretary MA Baby and State Secretary MV Govindan, along with other party leaders paid homage to Ranjitha, one of the passengers who died on the ill-fated Air India 171 flight.
Mortal remains of Ranjitha were brought to Thiruvananthapuram for the last rites.
Earlier on June 22, the DNA samples of 251 victims were identified and handed over to concerned families.
Speaking to mediapersons, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi said, 'DNA samples of 251 dead bodies of the plane crash have been matched. So far, a total of 245 bodies have been handed over to the families, while six families, who are from the UK, will receive the bodies of their relatives in the near future.'
'The 245 dead include 176 Indian citizens, 7 Portuguese, 49 British citizens, one Canadian and 12 non-passengers. Dr Rakesh Joshi gave details of the bodies handed over,' he added.
On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the passengers who died in the plane crash.
Two days ago, Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson reassured the public and employees that the airline's fleet--particularly its Boeing 787 aircraft--remains safe to operate following comprehensive checks and that the carrier is exercising maximum caution in the wake of the AI171 tragedy.
In an official communication, Campbell said, 'Have our aircraft been deemed safe? Yes. We have completed the additional precautionary checks on our operating Boeing 787 fleet as requested by the DGCA, who have publicly declared that they meet required standards.'
'We have also, as a matter of abundant precaution, voluntarily decided to continue additional pre-flight checks for the time being. Where there is any doubt, we will not release aircraft - of any type - for service,' said the CEO. (ANI)

Karnataka: Lokayukta raids Gadag Police Inspector's properties
Gadag (Karnataka) [India], June 24 (ANI): Lokayukta officials conducted extensive raids on seven properties linked to a DB Patil Circle Police Inspector (CPI) of Gadag Town Police Station, following allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to his known income. The operation, led by Lokayukta CPI Parashuram Kavatagi, targeted locations in Gadag, Bagalkot, Jamkhandi, and Kerur. According to Lokayukta officials, the operation was part of an investigation into complaints of disproportionate assets and potential misuse of official position. A team of Lokayukta officials, led by CPI Parashuram Kavatagi and supervised by DySP Pushpalatha and officer P S Patil, meticulously examined documents, cash holdings, and property records during the raid. Inch-by-inch inspections were conducted to identify any unaccounted wealth or financial irregularities. Authorities confirmed that the operation was based on credible inputs regarding suspicious asset accumulation by the officer. In a related action, Lokayukta officials also raided the residence of an Assistant Government Officer (AGO) in Shivamogga. The officer was booked under Shivamogga Crime No. 9/25. His premises were similarly searched for evidence of disproportionate assets. Earlier on Tuesday, the Karnataka Lokayukta conducted raids at several locations across the state, including offices of BBMP, Chikkamagaluru Town Municipality, and Anekal Town Municipality. The locations being raided are in Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Anekal, Gadag, Dharwad and Kalaburagi. According to officials, the raids targeted the Assistant Engineer at BBMP Govindrajnagar; the associate Research Director of organic Farming; the accounts Officer at the town Municipality, Anekal; the chief officer at the town municipality, the Town Police Inspector at Gadag; the engineer at the Malaprabha Project in Dharwad; the former Engineer at RDPR, Kalburgi and PDO, Kalburgi. A raid was also conducted at the residence of the Chief Engineer, Belagavi. Further details on the incident are still awaited. (ANI)

Delhi HC seeks urgent action to trace missing minor girl, issues notice to SSP Gautam Buddha Nagar
New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): The Delhi High Court, while hearing a habeas corpus petition under Article 226 of the Constitution, has directed urgent steps to locate a 14-year-old girl (Ms. B), who has been missing since June 12, 2025. The petition was filed by her parent seeking immediate intervention and direction from the concerned authorities. The bench, led by Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora, issued notice to all respondent authorities on Monday and directed them to appear and submit a copy of the Status Report in court. The report will be formally placed on record within two days. According to submissions made before the Court, three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the disappearance. Preliminary investigations suggest that Ms. B may have left her residence voluntarily, but further inquiry is ongoing based on the information provided by the petitioner. The Court was informed that police authorities in Gautam Buddha Nagar are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation, which is currently being led by the Investigating Officer (IO). It was further noted that two other girls who had gone missing with Ms. B on the same date have since been located within Gautam Buddha Nagar/Noida. Considering the developments, the Court deemed it necessary to issue notice to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Buddha Nagar, directing the submission of a Status Report before the next hearing. Additionally, the IO conducting the inquiry in Noida has been directed to remain present in Court on the next date. The IO from Police Station Harsh Vihar has been tasked with ensuring that today's order is communicated to the SSP, Gautam Buddha Nagar, for prompt compliance and to file an updated Status Report. The matter has been listed before the Vacation Bench on June 27, 2025. (ANI)

Karnataka police to organise event against drug abuse and trafficking on June 26
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 24 (ANI): Karnataka State Police and Bengaluru City Police will be jointly organising an event on the occasion of 'International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on June 26, at the Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru, said city's Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Tuesday 'On June 26, 2025, at 11:30 AM, the Karnataka State Police and Bengaluru City Police will jointly organise the 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' at Kanteerava Stadium,' the statement from the commissioner said. Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara will inaugurate the event, and Shivajinagar Assembly Constituency MLA Rizwan Arshad will preside over the function. On the same day, HM Parameshwara will demonstrate the destruction of seized narcotic substances, launch a QR code, and administer an oath against drug abuse, the official statement read. The Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka, M A Saleem, IPS, along with other senior officers, dignitaries, experts, and a large number of school and college students, will participate in the event. On June 22, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organised various events to commemorate 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwada,' in line with the UN resolution to observe June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. In Visakhapatnam, collaborating with the EAGLE and Decathlon, successfully organised a Cyclothon today as part of the ongoing campaign. The Cyclothon was flagged off by Pankaj Kumar Dwivedi, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the event was coordinated by Rajan Kumar, Superintendent, NCB Visakhapatnam, S Ramesh, Inspector EAGLE and Mrs. Kalyani, Inspector EAGLE. Over 100 cyclists from diverse backgrounds took part in the event, raising awareness and spreading the powerful message: Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs.' The participants pedalled through designated city routes, symbolising unity and a collective stand against the menace of drug abuse. On December 7, 1987, through a UN resolution, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
