George Clooney jokes about dying his iconic silver hair dark for Broadway role: "You never get used to it"
George Clooney is one of Hollywood's most well-known silver foxes. But lately, he's been sporting a new look — one he admits is not exactly his favorite.
The 63-year-old actor dyed his hair to star in the
Broadway adaptation of "Good Night and Good Luck
," and he knows it's catching people off guard.
"I know it's not good," Clooney quipped during an interview with "CBS Mornings" that aired Monday. "You never get used to it."
The actor told "CBS Mornings" co-host Gayle King that he's had salt-and-pepper hair for most of his life and he said he is not used to seeing it so dark.
"It's not my favorite look, and my wife, she thinks it's funny," joked Clooney, adding that his 7-year-old twins laugh at his new look. "Because, honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dying your hair."
The "Ocean's Eleven" actor made his
Broadway debut
this month, playing the role of legendary CBS News journalist Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night and Good Luck."
He said despite his experience as an actor and speaking to crowds, opening night was as "nerve-racking as you can imagine."
"There is a huge responsibility with these words because they are Edward R. Murrow's words," he said. "There's a lot of people in that audience who know those speeches by heart... I feel a sort of enormous responsibility to the people who originally said these words, to make sure that I do it well. So yeah, it's nerve-racking."
Clooney also opened a little bit about his family – wife Amal Clooney and their two children Ella and Alexander.
"Our kids are 7, about to be 8, which is a pretty great age. They're really curious and funny," he said. "Every parent thinks their kids are great — our kids are funny and make us laugh."
Clooney insisted that he and Amal, whom he
married in 2014
, have yet to have a fight and are "having a really great time in life."
"I remember we were here with you once before, and I remember we said we'd never had an argument. We still haven't," he said. "We're trying to find something to fight about!"
"I feel so extraordinarily lucky to have met this incredible woman," Clooney added. "I feel as if I hit the jackpot. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't think I'm the luckiest man in the world. So it's great."

She also recalled an incident that happened last fall when she was starring in the Broadway production The Roommate, involving fellow Tony winner Kecia Lewis. After LuPone filed a noise complaint from the musical next door, Hell's Kitchen, Lewis took to Instagram to call out LuPone, saying her actions were 'bullying,' 'racially microaggressive' and 'rooted in privilege,' because she had labeled 'a Black show loud.' McDonald reportedly liked the video. 'Here's the problem. She calls herself a veteran? CNN to Air Live Broadcast of George Clooney's ‘Good Night and Good Luck' in Broadway First
The Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck, starring George Clooney, will be broadcast live on CNN. The broadcast, which is the first time a live performance of a play will be televised, is scheduled to air live on June 7 at 7 p.m. ET across CNN, CNN International and streaming on CNN's website. The televised performance is the second-to-last scheduled performance of the play on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theater. The play, which was adapted from the 2005 film, follows journalist Edward R. Murrow, played by Clooney, in his efforts to take down Sen. Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism on air amid concerns from the federal government and CBS station heads. The broadcast will be executive produced by Clooney and Grant Heslov — they co-wrote the play together — Deena Katz, Todd Wagner and Jeff Skoll. The play opened on Broadway April 3 and is scheduled to run through June 8. The live broadcast of the show is also notable as the production has broken records as the play with the highest weekly gross in Broadway history, recently becoming the first play to make more than $4 million in one week. Broadway Box Office: George Clooney's ‘Good Night, and Good Luck' Breaks New Record
Good Night, and Good Luck yet again broke its own record for highest weekly gross for a Broadway play, bringing in $4.245 million last week, as the production wraps up its run. The play, starring George Clooney, is set to end its run June 8, with a live broadcast of the show airing on CNN on June 7. The show has been playing to 100 percent capacity throughout and had an average ticket price of $339 last week.
