Scotland's Angus Gunn keen to find right club to give him World Cup launchpad

The 29-year-old, who was Steve Clarke's number one at Euro 2024, is currently a free agent after Norwich opted not to extend his four-year stint at Carrow Road.
Gunn is weighing up his options for the season ahead and he knows the importance of making the right decision about his future given that Scotland will be aiming to qualify for the World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada in just over a year.
'Obviously, the transfer window has just opened, so that's just started,' he said, speaking at a media conference after joining up with the Scotland squad for the friendlies against Iceland and Liechtenstein. 'There are a few conversations happening, but I don't want to rush into anything.
'First and foremost, I want to come away and focus on this camp first. Then, I think after that, decisions will be made.
'Obviously, it's definitely a big factor that there's a qualifying campaign coming up for the World Cup in America. That's definitely a big focus for me. It's something that will be in the back of my mind when I make the decision. That's definitely in my thinking.
'There's a lot of factors. Obviously, I'm a bit older now, a bit more experienced and I know the game. I've got a young family as well and I want to look after them.
'At the same time, I've got aspirations in my career and the World Cup is definitely one of them. To reach that would definitely be the pinnacle.'
Gunn expressed sadness last month over the nature of his Norwich departure, but he insisted he is now looking ahead with excitement.
'Yes, I'm over it,' he said. 'It was something that I felt personally they could have handled better. But ultimately, I think the decision was probably the right one from both sides for me to move on and go somewhere else in my career. I'm really excited for it.'
Gunn was number one throughout the Euro 2024 campaign before a minor injury sustained in October paved the way for 42-year-old Craig Gordon to reclaim the gloves for the last six Scotland matches. The Hearts keeper picked up an injury himself towards the end of the season, meaning Gunn – whose last cap came in September – has a chance to re-establish himself.
'Last season I had a few injuries which kept me out of the squad, so that was frustrating,' he said. 'Obviously it's good to see Craig back playing at Hearts. He picked the injury up in the last part of the season, but he had a good spell in the team. Things change quickly in football, so you never really know. Hopefully I can get the two caps this week and keep moving forward.'
Gordon recently extended his contract with Hearts and looks set to continue vying with Gunn for the gloves as he approaches his 43rd birthday.
'It's unbelievable really,' he said of his rival's longevity. 'You don't see many players going that long. It's testament to him and how he's looked after himself and how much hunger he's got to carry on because as you're getting older, the body's going to feel it.
'For him to still have that hunger to keep going, hopefully I've got that in my head going into the latter part of my career.'

Wales coach names new captain for youngsters' clash against England Wales U20s have a new captain for Friday's clash with England U20s Dragons No 8 Evan Minto will captain Wales U20s against England U20s on Friday night (Image: Chris Fairweather/Huw Evans Agency ) Richard Whiffin has named Dragons No 8 Evan Minto as his new Wales U20s captain for this Friday's clash with England U20s in Pontypool. Openside flanker Harry Beddall captained the side for the Six Nations but Minto has been given the honour for this U20s World Cup warm-up match against England. ‌ Wales pulled off a stunning victory over England in the final game of the U20s Six Nations at the Arms Park in March and repeating that would give Whiffin's side a major confidence boost. ‌ Minto is part of a new-look back row which includes Dragons' team-mate Ryan Jones and Gloucester flanker Caio James. The 19-year-old had an impressive Six Nations campaign and Whiffin had no hesitation in handing over the captaincy responsibilities in place of Beddall, who will start from the bench. 'He is a very emotional leader but I think, alongside our tactical leaders in the squad, he will get the balance right,' said Whiffin. 'He is a local Pontypool guy plus we wanted to see a slightly different back row. From the performances he put in during the Six Nations, he has certainly put his hand up for the captaincy role.' Ospreys full-back Lewis Edwards is an exciting player to watch out for, with Bristol's Aidan Boshoff and Ioan Duggan joining him in the backrow. Elis Price and Elijah Evans form a potent midfield partnership with Sion Davies at scrum-half and Harri Ford wearing number 10. ‌ In the pack Cam Tyler-Grocott, Sam Hurley and Owain James form a strong front-row with Dan Gemine and Kenzie Jenkins in the second-row. 'We said to the group at the start of the campaign we were going to use it as a selection game in terms of whittling the squad down from 45 down to 30 so there will be guys playing on Friday night putting their hands up for the plane ticket to Italy. The O Beach Club offers the party to end all parties, with bikini-clad stunners dancing around the pool, bottles of £3,000 Dom Perignon popping from every table and an abundance of celebs joining in the mischief. There, the Real Madrid star Bellingham and his pals had one of the most expensive VIP areas to themselves and certainly made the most of it. But Liverpool manager Arne Slot started the trend this summer when he was spotted poolside just hours after hosting Arsenal at Anfield. While in the past, England footballers including Jack Grealish, Declan Rice, Ivan Toney and James Maddison have all hired their own cabana for some poolside fun. It's why the O Beach Club is the jewel of Lineker's £30million nightclub empire. Established 2012 Well before the O Beach Club, the Match of the Day legend's sibling launched Lineker's in Tenerife in 1988. Following its success, he continued to populate Spain's holiday destinations with several sports bars. It netted him a fortune - and during the 1998 World Cup punters were seen queuing in the streets of Puerto Banus desperate to watch the games. In 2012, Lineker launched his new venture - originally called the Ocean Beach Club. 12 Birds eye view of O Beach in San Antonio Credit: Alamy Nestled in bustling San Antonio, it soon became one of the White Isle's most popular hotspots. Offering acrobatics, live saxophonists, DJs and dancers, and with the likes of Hedkandi, Kisstory and HotBed hosting regular events there. Footballers cottoned on too. Euro 2012 Days after England crashed out of Euro 2012 following a heartbreaking penalty shootout to Italy, a number of Three Lions jetted away for a well-needed break. Some chose Ibiza - with the then newly-opened Ocean Beach Club being the hottest ticket in town. Goalkeeper Joe Hart was snapped with Lineker, alongside the host's daughter Tia. This summer, though, the venue welcomed a £100million footballer through its doors. Grealish Just a month after Lineker rang in his 60th birthday with an epic party where he was joined by ex-girlfriend Chloe Ferry and showbiz pal Calum Best, Grealish came for a jolly. Fresh from picking up his first ever Premier League winners medal, the midfielder was ready for a good time. Jack, 29, was centre of attention, showing off his ripped six pack and famous calves in a pair of pink shorts plastered with palm trees, as he was surrounded by bikini-clad beauties. The Gucci ambassador used neon shades to push his famous locks back and covered his crimson neck with a white top, while having fun with a string of lads and beauties. TV star Chloe Chaloner, 28, who previously dated Callum Izzard, and Rhi Parsons joined him in a private area reserved for the rich and famous. Pool beds for eight people cost around £1,300 - and the minimum spend is over £1000. Grealish's gang were served up platters of fruit and mini burgers, as well as dozens of O Beach cocktails, and looked in good spirits enjoying the Ibiza sunshine. A bleary-eyed Grealish was seen returning to our shores as he reports for England duty ahead of the Three Lions' Nations League matches. 12 Grealish partied at O Beach Club with Ibiza Weekender beauty Chloe Chaloner Credit: The Sun 12 Wayne Lineker is the older brother of ex-Spurs legend Gary Lineker Expansion plans After the success of his Ibiza establishment, Lineker is planning on expanding his empire. O Beach Club is taking over the Maldives in November for a four-day event. But his next target is the UAE - another haven for footballers in winter and summer. They were set to open at Palm Jumeirah last summer, but the project came to a 'standstill' over 'various contributing factors'. Regardless, plans are still afoot for a Dubai residence in the near future. No doubt Grealish's plans for some winter sun are already in place.

Man Utd forward reveals 'credible option' on table as loan transfer addressed

Man Utd forward reveals 'credible option' on table as loan transfer addressed The forward has been training with the Canadian national team after being invited on camp with Craig Bellamy and Wales Gabriele Biancheri of Manchester United (Image: Getty Images ) Burgeoning Manchester United talent Gabriele Biancheri finds himself on the brink of two career-defining decisions — at both club and international level. Currently in Canada's Gold Cup training camp as a non-playing invitee, the 18-year-old is considering a switch from Wales, the country he's represented at youth level, to Canada, where his mother was born. ‌ 'Canada is a credible option and one I am thinking about,' Biancheri told The Athletic. 'Right now, I'm just taking everything in.' ‌ Biancheri, who was born and raised in the Welsh capital and represented Cardiff City at youth level before moving to United, was invited to Wales' senior camp last month along with a number of the country's bright young talents. It comes after a fruitful season for the teenager, who scored 21 goals across the U18 Premier League and Premier League 2 and regularly participated in first-team training. A broken hand midway through the season didn't stop his momentum, and he's now weighing whether to stay and fight for minutes at United or go on loan. Article continues below 'I don't really know the plan for next season,' Biancheri said, admitting a loan out of Manchester United's youth set-up to play first- team football is an option being considered. 'I just take everything as it comes. If that's going on loan and learning and getting experience playing men's football, I'll take it. If that's getting a chance with the first team and playing Under-21s and earning my shot, that's what I'll do.' There's clearly a queue forming in front of him at United, with Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Chido Obi and a returning Marcus Rashford currently ahead of him in the pecking order. That's not to mention the links with Sporting CP striker Victor Gyokeres. ‌ However, an ambition to burst into the United first team at some point is clearly burning within him. 'That's why I play football: to play at the highest level, to play for Man United's first team,' Biancheri added. 'I'll always push myself to reach the heights I know I can. Playing for United's first team is a dream, but I know I can make it happen.' Now, as Canada prepare for the 2026 World Cup on home soil, he's drawn to the chance of international football with a promising, youthful squad. ‌ 'There's pride in wearing the shirt,' Biancheri said. 'It's not just football — it has to come from the heart.' Bellamy, on the other hand, insisted he had a relaxed stance on the talented teenager exploring his options in North America and believes he will make the best decision for him. "I like people having options, it's healthy," Bellamy said last week. "He's not ready for our squad yet. It's something he'd like to go and have a look at, but I like to think we have done our work as well. Article continues below "He has been with us through the younger age groups, he knows what we are about and who we are. "I don't think it ever hurts someone to have options and to go and explore them. I'm never against that. At the end the decision will be his. He knows where we are and where he is. He's not ready for first team football with us at this moment. "It's his decision. I've known him since he was very young and I know his family really well. Whatever he does will be the right thing for him, it's not a problem."
