42 Nadi centres now operating in Penang with new additions
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the new centres are located in Penanti (two), Seberang Jaya, and Pematang Pasir.
Three began operations in May 2024, while the Kubang Semang centre opened in December 2023.
'This aligns with the one state constituency, one NADI policy directed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,' Fahmi stated during a press conference after visiting the Kubang Semang NADI.
Accompanying him were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Information Department (JaPen) director-general Julina Johan.
Fahmi noted that Penang previously had only three NADIs. He emphasised their potential to benefit communities through initiatives like Maxis' eKELAS digital learning and entrepreneurship training.
'These programmes help local products reach broader markets, including Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and online platforms,' he added.
Earlier, Fahmi tested telecommunications coverage using the MCMC Nexus app during a bus ride from PICCA@Arena Butterworth Convention Centre to NADI Kubang Semang.
He reported satisfactory internet speeds, averaging 90–100 Mbps for downloads and 20–30 Mbps for uploads. However, he instructed MCMC to address connectivity gaps using Nexus data.
'The public can assess internet quality via speed tests. This data will help us hold telcos accountable,' he explained.
Fahmi later attended the 'Sembang Santai Komuniti MADANI' programme at the Central Seberang Perai District Hall, joined by former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

MyDigital ID registrations hit 2.8 million in Q2 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Around 2.8 million Malaysians have registered for MyDigital ID as of the second quarter of 2025, marking a significant rise from 1.8 million in the first quarter. The surge in registrations is attributed to growing use-cases, including access to government and private sector services. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa highlighted key applications driving adoption. 'Examples include logging into the MyGOV portal, accessing the MyJPJ app and verifying prepaid SIM card ownership. As more government and private sector services adopt MyDigital ID, public demand for registration naturally rises,' she said during the Dewan Rakyat session. The update was provided in response to a query from Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN–Beluran), who sought details on MyDigital ID's implementation progress, system integration, and its impact on public services. On system integration, Dr Zaliha confirmed that 82 application systems have been linked with MyDigital ID. This includes 35 fully integrated government systems, 17 in implementation, and 21 in early discussions. Additionally, seven non-government systems have been integrated, with two more underway. To ensure wider accessibility, the government is collaborating with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to improve internet connectivity in rural areas. Fahmi: Putrajaya pauses RON95 subsidy cuts to ‘fine-tune' policy, avoid burdening public
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today said the rationalisation of RON95 fuel subsidies has been delayed to allow for further fine-tuning. He said the reason for the delay is that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim does not want the policy to burden most Malaysians. 'The prime minister expressed his view that he does not want the implementation of any policy to negatively affect the majority of the people. 'It is this process of fine-tuning that has resulted in a slight shift in the timeline,' he said in a press conference at the Parliament here. According to Fahmi, previous policies had been fine-tuned to avoid causing unnecessary hardship to the people. 'That is one of the reasons why, following the implementation of measures such as the diesel subsidy rationalisation and other efforts, we found it necessary to re-examine the subsidy delivery mechanism. 'In the same spirit of minimising impact, even the expansion of the sales and services tax (SST) underwent further refinements after it was announced. 'The same approach applies to policies that have yet to be implemented but were previously indicated including the targeted subsidy for RON95,' he said. Earlier this month, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government is focusing on finalising the details of the RON95 subsidy rationalisation, which was initially scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.
