EPI partners with Revolut to expand reach of European digital wallet Wero
Revolut users in France, Belgium, and Germany will be able to send and request payments using EPI's digital wallet, Wero, from July.

Speaking at Money20/20 Europe in Amsterdam, Ludovic Francesconi, chief member and strategy officer at EPI, and David Tirado, VP of global business at Revolut, announced that Revolut will join as a member of the EPI scheme.
'Our mission is to create a real European solution, wallet, innovative solution based on instant payment,' Francesconi stated. Wero, which has been available since 2024, provides a localised and convenient payment method for consumers. The platform currently enables account-to-account payments for over 40 million users, and the five markets covered by Wero represent more than 60% of all retail payments in the EU. The Wero wallet will be featured in the Revolut app in July, facilitating seamless payments between Wero account holders.
Tirado emphasised Revolut's commitment to implementing a seamless payments experience for their consumers: 'We are really focusing on getting primacy of wallets. We are focusing on getting our customers to use Revolut every single day for every single payment experience that they have effectively, we think that enabling local payments is something that is really needed and that our users are demanding day after day. We have in the past launched other local payment networks like Bizum in Spain and BLIK. We think that the next evolution of our journey to enable our customers to pay where and how they want, is to partner with Wero.'
Looking ahead, Francesconi outlined Wero's priority to launch e-commerce payments at the end of this year in Germany and Belgium, and in 2026 in France. EPI have acquired e-commerce solutions iDEAL in the Netherlands and Payconiq in Luxembourg, which will be available with Wero. By the end of next year, they aim to offer point of sales as well.
Speaking exclusively to Finextra, Francesconi detailed the drive behind Wero and the EPI roadmap, he outlined their goal to standardise the fragmented payments landscape in Europe and bring sovereignty to payments solutions. He further emphasised the disorganized nature of cross-border transactions in Europe, that needs to be amended immediately and cannot wait until the roll out of the digital euro.
'In the current geopolitical situation, it's even more important to be independent in terms of payments, including for cross-border transactions in Europe. We have strong solutions at national level, but we don't have anything European for cross-border payments. When you go from France to Spain, Germany, or Netherlands, you have to use American solutions, unless if you use cash. But the use of cash is decreasing, and in terms of digital payments, there is no solution. So we want to bring this sovereign solution to Europe and so build this new innovative wallet. The ambition is to cover all of Europe, but we start with these five markets.'

Under the terms of a sell-on clause inserted in the agreement reached with Dortmund, Sunderland will be due 15% of his next transfer fee. If, as expected, Bellingham passes certain milestones in Germany, and the fee increases to £32m, it will break Sunderland's record for an outbound transfer, established by Jordan Pickford's £30m sale to Everton in 2017. It would also make him Dortmund's most expensive acquisition, narrowly eclipsing the sum they invested in Ousmane Dembélé in 2016. In an interview with the French radio station RMC last week Régis Le Bris, the Sunderland manager, was unstinting in his praise for Bellingham. 'The player is incredibly interesting,' Le Bris said. 'He's still very young and has enormous room for improvement. But his personality is also great; he's extremely competitive, extremely intense. Jobe is a guy with a wonderful personality. It's been a wonderful encounter.' Sunderland have already sold the winger Tommy Watson, scorer of the winning goal in the playoff final against Sheffield United, to Brighton for £10m while paying Roma £20m to turn Enzo Le Fée's loan into a permanent transfer.

Borussia Dortmund to pay MORE for Jobe Bellingham than they did for his brother Jude as German club reach agreement with Sunderland
Jobe Bellingham is set to follow in his brother's footsteps after Borussia Dortmund agreed a fee with with Sunderland that is higher than what they paid for Jude in 2020. The 19-year old midfielder helped Sunderland clinch promotion and has now decided to take his talents to Germany. Dortmund will pay an initial £27.8million fee plus £4.2m in potential add-ons, according to talkSPORT. Bellingham will become Sunderland's record sale, overtaking the £25m transfer of Jordan Pickford to Everton in 2017. And he will cost Dortmund more than his superstar brother did five years ago. Jude, now a key player for Real Madrid, joined the Bundesliga outfit from Birmingham City as a 17-year-old in 2020 for £25m. Eintracht Frankfurt and Red Bull Leipzig were the other German clubs that spoke to the 20-year-old. A number of Premier League sides also held interest, but initial indications are Bellingham is preparing to follow a similar path to his brother Jude who extolled the benefits of life in Germany with Dortmund. After three years at Dortmund, Jude - who spoke to his brother via video call after the play-off final - went on to join Real Madrid, where he is now a Real Madrid regular. The elder Bellingham won a Champions League medal last year, Madrid beating his old club Dortmund in the final. Sunderland have been aware of ongoing interest in Jobe since January. His previous club Birmingham City are also due a significant sell-on.

Jobe Bellingham follows Jude with £27.5m Borussia Dortmund move
Jobe Bellingham has completed his transfer from Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of about £27.5million to follow in the career path of his big brother Jude. The 19-year-old has become the second most expensive player in Dortmund's history, second only to the £30million they paid for Ousmane Dembélé in 2016. It is also more than the £25million they paid Birmingham City for a 17-year-old Jude in 2020. Jobe has also become the most expensive player sold by Sunderland, the club he joined from Birmingham in 2023 for a fee of £3million. Birmingham are also thought to be in line to receive a 15 per cent sell-on fee. Sunderland have included the same sell-on clause should Jobe leave Signal Iduna Park. There is also the possibility of the initial fee rising, with £3.5million in potential add-ons. Bellingham played 90 times for Sunderland and was a key figure in the side that got the club promoted in dramatic style in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United last month, which they won in the game's final minute of injury-time. He has played in various positions, with the Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris admitting recently that he thinks his best position may ultimately be as a holding midfielder. Bellingham scored 11 times in his two years at Sunderland and his move to Dortmund has been expected throughout the latter stages of this season. However, there was interest from Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig. Bellingham was shown around Eintracht Frankfurt's facilities by officials before flying off to Ibiza with his brother. Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kohl flew to the Balearic island to meet Jobe. He was told that the player still intended to sign for Dortmund, who finished the season strongly enough to qualify for the Champions League. It is unknown whether Dortmund will call Bellingham into their squad for the Club World Cup and take him out of Lee Carsley's England Under-21 squad. Sunderland have already announced the signing of Enzo Le Fée from Roma for a fee that could rise to £20million. They have also sold Tommy Watson to Brighton for £10million. Bournemouth could lose both starting centre backs as PSG chase £50m Zabarnyi Paris Saint-Germain have opened talks with several centre backs including Illia Zabarnyi, of Bournemouth. The south coast club have priced the 22-year-old at more than £50million, more than double the fee they paid Dynamo Kyiv when he joined for £24million in January 2023. Zabarnyi's contract does not have the type of release clause which allowed his defensive partner Dean Huijsen to join Real Madrid for £50million last month. PSG have also held talks with the representatives of Kim Min-jae, the South Korea defender who can leave Bayern Munich for about £42million. Mario Gila, of Lazio, is another option being considered by PSG. Brighton bid £34million for Olympiacos teenager Brighton & Hove Albion have bid £34million for Charalampos Kostoulas, the 18-year-old forward who scored six league goals for Olympiacos this season. Brighton are expected to have to pay close to £40million, matching the fee they paid for Georginio Rutter from Leeds United last summer. His arrival is expected to lead to the sale of João Pedro, who is keen to leave and is linked with Newcastle United among other clubs.
