Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey delivered an iconic block for fullback Howard Griffith in Super Bowl XXXII in 1998.
With the Broncos and Green Bay Packers tied at 24-24 in the fourth quarter, quarterback John Elway hit Griffith in the flat and McCaffrey blocked Packers linebacker Brian Williams, allowing Griffith to pick up 15 more yards.
"Brian Williams, that's Ed McCaffrey that just tattooed you on your back!" was the moment's iconic call. As Griffith ran down field, McCaffrey stood over Williams and pointed at him on the ground.
The play resurfaced on social media over the weekend on the game's anniversary and McCaffrey had a funny response on Twitter/X:

"Totally legal in 1998! 30 yards of penalties in 2025. Good times!" McCaffrey tweeted on Saturday.

Slimmer Travis Kelce prepares for 13th NFL season

In the days after the Super Bowl, it seemed as if Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce would be calling it a career after 12 NFL seasons. But he quickly decided to come back. When he does, he'll have a different look. Via Andrew Battifarano of the New York Post, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said during a Saturday SportsCenter appearance that Kelce has been telling people he has lost some weight in the offseason. 'He's told people close to him that he's lost about 25 pounds this offseason,' Fowler said. 'Played a little bit heavier in 2024. . . . He vowed to change it, and he has.' For older players, it's not uncommon to lose weight — it's perceived as a way to perhaps regain some of the speed that Father Time is starting to strip away. There's a balance to strike. Body weight becomes part of the body's natural armor. If Kelce is too thin, he could get banged around a little more than he has in the past. Regardless, the change shows he wasn't happy with how things went in 2024. And if 2025 will be his last season, he's committed to applying a different approach. In 2024, Kelce had 823 receiving yards. That was the lowest since his rookie year, when he appeared in one game and had zero targets. Three total touchdowns was also the lowest total, since he became a regular contributor to the Kansas City offense.

San Francisco 49ers Coach Robert Saleh Praises Rookie Class 'Cool Group'

San Francisco 49ers Coach Robert Saleh Praises Rookie Class 'Cool Group' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After a four-year sentence in New York as head coach of the Jets, Robert Saleh returns to San Francisco as the defensive coordinator of the 49ers. Advertisement Saleh had moderate success from 2017-2018 as the defensive coordinator before 2019 brought defensive dominance to San Francisco and helped the team to a Super Bowl LIV appearance. Now he's back home and is intent on rebuilding the 49ers' defense into what it was before he left. A Super Bowl contender. And it starts with the new rookie class. Saleh spoke about the rookie class during mandatory minicamp this week, and is impressed with what he's seen thusfar, alebit in a very short sample size. "It's been good. I've always said half of what a rookie does in his first season is he's just playing. Doesn't know what the heck's going on. He is just using all his athleticism," Saleh noted. "But there's been a couple of guys, not to name names, who have stood out from an assignment standpoint. They're always going to make mistakes. You just don't want to see them make the same mistake twice. So from that regard, it's been impressive to watch some of those guys. Advertisement "They've been, I'm thinking of one on top of my head, I'm just not going to name his name, he will make the adjustment before we ever get to them. So it's a pretty cool group." In Saleh's last season as the coordinator in San Francisco, his defense ranked No. 2 in yards allowed and No. 8 in points allowed, and the unit took a hit when he left. The 49ers were No. 8 in yards allowed and ranked No. 27 in the league in points allowed. Saleh hopes to help the 49ers recover from a disappointing 6-11 campaign last season that saw the team watch the postseason from home. The San Francisco 49ers are one of the teams that Bryce Huff wanted to be traded to. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Philadelphia Eagles defensive star Bryce Huff had a lot of trade buzz surrounding him this offseason. Advertisement Then the San Francisco 49ers pulled the trigger and traded a 2026 mid-round pick to the reigning Super Bowl champions in exchange for Huff at the end of May. And he sounds very glad that they did. In a recent press conference, the 27-year-old edge rusher gave a bit of an insight into his thoughts earlier this offseason, and he showed his appreciation to the Niners making the move to acquire him. "I had a few places in mind that I definitely wanted to get traded to,' Huff said. "All I was doing is just working out, staying in my routine. Thankfully, it was to San Francisco." Huff did not work out that well in his one season with the Eagles, but his time with the New York Jets shows that he can absolutely still get the job done as an attacker of NFL QBs. Advertisement In the 2023 season, Huff racked up 10 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, and 29 total tackles. He has had some troubles with injuries as of late, so he and the Niners will be hoping that he can stay on the field and make his impact felt. San Francisco is coming off of a season during which the club finished with a very disappointing 6-11 record, so Huff and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to rebound and help lead the team back to the NFC playoffs.
