Rajinikanth beats Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Vijay: Coolie breaks several records at box-office, check full list here
The superstar has shown no signs of slowing down. With Coolie, Rajinikanth has once again taken over theatres across the world, delivering a storm at the box office that few could have predicted. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film has turned into more than just a release — it's an event. What records has Coolie broken already? Day one itself set the tone. The film opened to a staggering Rs 151 crore worldwide gross, a figure no Tamil film had ever touched before. It smashed past Lokesh's previous outing Leo, which stood at Rs 143 crore. In the larger Indian context, too, no 2025 film has been able to match this debut. The earlier benchmark was Ram Charan's Game Changer at Rs 80 crore, while War 2 with Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan could only tie that number. Where does it stand among Indian originals? When you look at all-time openings by original Indian films (excluding sequels), only three names sit higher than Coolie: RRR with Rs 223 crore, Kalki 2898 AD with Rs 178 crore, and Salaar with Rs 158 crore. Every other bigger opener has relied on sequels, which makes Coolie's entry even more remarkable. How fast did it race past Rs 100 crore? In India, the film crossed the Rs 100-crore net mark in just two days — something no Tamil film had done before. Rajinikanth's own 2.0 and Vijay's Leo took three days to reach the same milestone. Globally, in only 48 hours, Coolie collected over Rs 250 crore, already outshining Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly, which wrapped up at Rs 248 crore. Yes. Coolie's momentum began long before the first show. The film made headlines by clocking Rs 109 crore in pre-release ticket sales, the highest ever for a Tamil film. This massive demand was a clear sign of the storm that would follow. How big could it get? At its current pace, Coolie is galloping towards Rs 300 crore worldwide and Rs 200 crore in India. If it continues like this, it may even outpace Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan. In fact, among Indian films, only giants like Pushpa 2: The Rule, RRR, Baahubali 2, KGF Chapter 2, Kalki 2898 AD, and Jawan have raced faster. Coolie: Starcast Beyond Rajinikanth's towering presence, the film boasts a large ensemble. It features Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra, while Aamir Khan steps in for a cameo that adds further weight to the spectacle. Coolie is not just another Rajinikanth film. It is a reminder of his unmatched pull across generations and geographies. At 74, he isn't merely acting; he's redefining the very meaning of box office power.

War 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: Hit or flop? Here's how much Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's film earned on Saturday
Released on August 14, Ayan Mukerji's action-packed War 2 has set theatres ablaze. Starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, the film stormed into cinemas just ahead of Independence Day weekend. The response has been fiery — both critics and audiences have showered love. And the numbers reflect it. In only two days, the film comfortably crossed the Rs 100-crore mark, standing firm against the juggernaut of Rajinikanth's Coolie. How did the film perform day by day? Day 1: Rs 52 crore Day 2: Rs 56 crore Day 3 (Saturday trends): Rs 3.55 crore (early estimates) Total (India): Rs 111.9 crore Worldwide: Rs 165 crore Even in just three days, War 2 has already toppled the lifetime earnings of Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 and Sunny Deol's Jaat. Blockbuster or flop? By all signs, the film is tilting towards blockbuster territory. The first two days saw a dream run, powered by Hrithik's charisma and Jr NTR's pan-India pull. While Saturday showed a dip with Rs 3.55 crore, the overall tally keeps it safe in the hit zone. Importantly, it has managed to hold ground even while competing head-to-head with Rajinikanth's record-shattering Coolie. What makes War 2 significant? This isn't just another big release. War 2 is a crucial link in YRF's much-hyped Spy Universe, which already includes Pathaan and the Tiger films. Mukerji brings his trademark spectacle to the franchise, expanding its scale and reach. The film also slips in a tease for what lies ahead. A post-credit sequence introduces Bobby Deol's arrival in Alpha, the next chapter, alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Clearly, YRF isn't slowing down in its pursuit of building India's interconnected spy world. Who stars in this action spectacle? Fronted by Hrithik Roshan as the returning Kabir and Jr NTR as the new force in the universe, War 2 adds Kiara Advani in a powerful role and Ashutosh Rana reprising his part. Together, they fuel a film designed to set screens on fire. While Rajinikanth's Coolie may have the sharper edge in numbers, War 2 has carved its path. Crossing Rs 100 crore in two days and touching Rs 165 crore globally is no small feat. More than the clash, the takeaway is clear: Indian audiences are hungry for spectacle, and both films are serving it in their grand ways.

Coolie vs War 2 Box Office Comparison: Hrithik Roshan and NTR film takes lead over Rajinikanth's movie on day 2 in India
Coolie and War 2 clashed at the box office on August 14. Together, the films achieved a combined opening day gross of approximately Rs 134.50 crore, with Coolie contributing the lion's share. Coolie grossed Rs 75.50 crore, compared to Rs 59 crore for War 2. Collectively, the two films delivered the Indian film industry its second-biggest box office day, surpassed only by the opening day of Pushpa 2. War 2 Registers Higher Collections Than War 2 On Independence Day Holiday In India On the second day, the Independence Day holiday, War 2 took the lead over Coolie. War 2 grossed Rs 67 crore, compared to Coolie's Rs 63.50 crore. The Hindi version of War 2 drove its performance, securing at least a moral victory over Coolie, if not more. The two day collections of War 2, stand at Rs 126 crore, as compared to Coolie's Rs 139 crore. Collections for both films have declined on Saturday, and expectations for Sunday remain modest. The race between the two films is tight, and it's uncertain which will come out on top. The film that leads on Saturday and Sunday is likely to end with higher total collections in India. The Difference Between War 2 And Coolie Will Be The Overseas Gross, As India Gross Is Expected To Be More Or Less, The Same The overseas collections of Coolie are expected to be the key differentiator. Coolie's opening day overseas collections are significantly higher than what War 2 is expected to do over the extended first weekend. Coolie's extended weekend collections are estimated to be USD 10 million higher than War 2's. A USD 10 million (Rs 87 crore) difference over the weekend and an expected Rs 100 crore difference in the lifetime is what is being assumed at this point. This only means that Coolie will be leading War 2 by a margin of Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office as well, in the full run. Coolie, Despite Its Underperformance, Remains In Contention To Be A Superhit Both movies have not performed as well as they should have. But it is undeniable that the Rajinikanth movie is still in contention to be a superhit, given its lesser costs and higher global gross. War 2 will end as a loss-making proposition for everyone involved. The combined global gross of both movies will likely fail to touch Rs 1000 crore. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
