Ozzy Osbourne's heartbreaking final remark to Jack after farewell performance
Ozzy Osbourne's son, Jack, has revealed the comment he made after his last ever performance, and it was filled with his iconic wit. The Black Sabbath icon, 76, joined his bandmates for one final time earlier this month in his hometown of Birmingham.
He received an epic send-off surrounded by his beloved family and fellow rock icons, and he hung up his Prince of Darkness crown once and for all. Just over two weeks later, Ozzy sadly died with a statement confirming the news.
Ozzy had been surrounded by the love and support of his nearest and dearest in his final weeks, with son Jack sharing a touching insight. He told his famous father about the rave reviews he had received for his Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park.
Despite all the praise and attention, Ozzy had a very humorous response that showed he still had his blunt ways. Ozzy told his son: "Lot of f***ing good that does me. I'm retired now!"
Revealing how he was doing after the show in a now poignant interview, Jack told the Daily Mail:"Dad's great and his mood's really high. He's in a really good spot right now."
Speaking of his health issues, Ozzy's son added: "Listen, everyone gets old, everyone slows down as you age - it's part of the journey. I just try and support him as much as I can. We all do."
Jack admits that the whole Osbourne family had become emotional watching Ozzu "doing his job" at Villa Park, with the family tearing up. He said that people had been reaching out to the family, showing all kinds of love for the legend.
It was announced on Tuesday that after years of battling ill health, Ozzy had died at the age of 76. A statement from the Osbourne family read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.
"He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis." It's claimed that Ozzy's health had rapidly deteriorated on Tuesday morning, with an air ambulance being sent to his home in Buckinghamshire, where paramedics spent hours attempting to save him.
A local resident said they became alarmed after noticing the helicopter in the quiet village and saw it landing close to Ozzy and Sharon's mansion.
They told the MailOnline: "All of us were talking about it and wondering what had happened. We immediately feared it may be for him as he was known to be in fragile health. When we heard later that night that he had died it confirmed our worst fears."
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Air Ambulance said: "We can confirm that our helicopter was dispatched to provide advanced critical care at an incident near Chalfont St Giles yesterday."
Meanwhile, his sisters received the news via phone call hours before the Osbourne family issued their statement. Speaking from her sister Gillian's house, Ozzy's sister, Jean, told the Mirror that the last time she saw her brother, she found it "upsetting." She said: "We saw him in Birmingham the other week when he and the rest of the band were given the freedom of the city.
"It was upsetting because he could not stand up straight, but he was still our John, still cracking the jokes. To us, he was our brother, not a celebrity, so it's crazy to see the outpouring of love since his death was announced. We just can't believe he is gone, and we won't be getting another phone call or text from him. Every week without fail, he would get in touch, either by phone or text, to ask how we were all doing and what was going on."

There's no doubt that leafing through the pages years later can be met with a wave or nostalgia, heartbreaking sentiment or leave people cringing. But for actress Sarah Maria Lafferty when she stumbled upon old diaries she did something unexpected with them. She turned them into her craft. At this summer's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Lafferty will perform a one-woman show called 'How to Become a Movie Star?' and bring the pages to life. Speaking to Daily Mail, ahead of the start of the festival on Friday, she revealed what it was like reading back through the diaries. 'What I found most surprising was how my core personality as a seven-year-old is so similar to me today. When I didn't get cast in the lead role as the princess in my debut play, but instead as princess #4, it really bothered me,' she said. 'However the core motivation was that I loved to perform and to be in the spotlight, so it was this primal desire to deliver when the lights are brightest which drove me to want the lead role,' she added. Lafferty, who previously lived in New York and is now a teacher in Dublin, has taken the funniest stories from her acting career and turned them into the show that she has written, produced and will star in. She draws on experiences from first being cast as that princess in the school play to appearing on Irish TV RTÉ 1 drama 'Seven Women' and performing on Broadway in 'Fáinne Óir' - a music and dance extravaganza choreographed by Riverdance star Ciara Sexton. 'How to Become a Movie Star?' is a comedy about the adventure of living an actor's life and follows its main character's unique plan to become a movie star by training to be a teacher. Lafferty kept a diary for much of her life, and it took months of sifting through the pages to find and rewrite the funniest parts of her story. Despite it being somewhat autobiographical Lafferty has changed the names of some of the characters. Lafferty said: 'I've a large collection of diaries and I'm always writing new entries. A few years back, it occurred to me that there were some funny stories that could make a play. 'I wanted to write a show that celebrates the pursuit of a dream. This isn't about an obsession with celebrity or fame, but about a love of acting and performance. 'I know it's a cliché, but for good reason, because life is about the journey and the pursuit of something special. I hope everyone in the audience can relate to chasing something seemingly impossible, but still enjoying the adventure. 'I'm often the butt of the joke myself, so I'm not afraid to own my mistakes, but that's what I think is relatable about the script,' she added. She added that against the backdrop of increasing social media, where people often record their thoughts, it is important to keep a diary as 'a unique way to make sense of your own life'. She said: 'I've always thoroughly enjoyed writing a diary. Whether it's a form of therapy, or just a historical record. 'There's something about a person's unique handwriting on paper, which is a form of communication that is uniquely enjoyable and personal.' Lafferty previously performed 'The Woman He Lived With' at the Fringe in 2022 and 'The Bad Daters' at the 2023 festival. 'How to Become a Movie Star?' will be shown at The Space @ Surgeons' Hall, Theatre 3 during the festival at 4pm on Aug 1-9, 11-16 and 18-23.

The Black Sabbath star's wife pulled out all the stops to get him on stage, say insiders Ozzy Osbourne's final performance in his home city almost never happened. The rock legend was warned that insurers would not cover the show if he pursued his dream of standing to say goodbye to his devoted fans, we can reveal. But Ozzy 's determined wife Sharon waged a secret battle with the insurance agents – and overcame any potential issues by seating the Black Sabbath frontman in a throne for his five solo tracks and four Sabbath tunes. Ozzy, who died on Tuesday at the age of 76, just two weeks after the show, had vowed to 'get back on that stage no matter what'. However, an LA promoter said the superstar was effectively banned from any on stage movement during the charity show by insurance firms. It prompted concerns that the Back To The Beginning gig, at Villa Park in Birmingham, would be axed. Ozzy had spent over a year working with physios, trainers and specialists to be able to put on a show for fans after his health battles. Our insider said: 'It is heartbreaking to think about the stress that Ozzy and Sharon went through in those last few weeks. Ozzy had worked his a** off to get himself to a place where he could at least stand up and wave to fans. But for shows of that magnitude, if the artists do not meet the insurers' satisfaction of risk liability then the show doesn't go ahead. 'With the Parkinson's and the walking issues, no insurance agent would agree to let Oz stand. So to overcome that, and not have a huge insurance premium on the charity show, they secured a deal to have him safely locked in his throne. It was a brilliant compromise. It really speaks so much to Sharon's drive and focus to get it all pulled off, because of the liability issues. She was a miracle worker.' Ozzy had spoken of being in heavy duty training sessions three times daily to 'be ready to play'. He even said a personal trainer moved into his home. Ozzy was last seen walking slowly inside and outside of the Comic Con Midlands at Birmingham's NEC. He had a walking stick but moved slowly unaided as wife Sharon and son Jack were seen by members of the public with him a week before his death. Sabbath band mate Tommy Iommi touched on the last minute stresses and technical challenges during an interview with Sirius XM after BTTB. He revealed that Ozzy's performance was uncertain even with days to go before the show. Tommy, 77, admitted: 'It was making it up as we went on really. It was really a case of how long Ozzy could do it really. Because we didn't know with him doing his own set, which I said to him, I didn't think he should do because I didn't want him to get burned out by the time he'd come with us. But he didn't and he did his own set. We ended up doing four songs but we had put aside sort of six or seven. But it worked out that we did four, so that was fine." Ozzy's family announced he had died in statement on Tuesday which shocked the music world.
