RSS to hold 1L meets to bridge caste discords in Hindu society

will organise more than one lakh Hindu Sammelans across the country to hold discussions on "internal misconceptions" within the Hindu society and ways to bridge them through "mutual respect" and dialogue.
These sammelans will be part of RSS centenary celebrations and will begin from Dussehra on Oct 2.
A senior RSS functionary who attended the Akhil Bhartiya Prant Pracharak meeting of Sangh in Delhi said Hindu sammelans will address issues like caste differences which are deep rooted within the Hindu social order. "The Sangh will initiate a direct dialogue with the people to address the caste difference for a wider and robust Hindu unity," the RSS functionary said.
The discussions could help the BJP counter opposition's caste narrative—like the Picchda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak (PDA)—ahead of upcoming electoral battles, including the Bihar assembly polls this year and even UP elections in 2027.
"The biggest challenge before the Hindu society is that of caste differences and socio-economic backwardness of lower castes," the RSS functionary said, adding that the change in social perception needs to be reflected in overall public behaviour.
He said pracharaks and karyakartas from 46 prants (as per RSS organisational structure) attended the three-day Delhi meeting between July 4 and 6 and shared detailed reports on Sangh's work and expansion of its outreach.
RSS plans to organise Hindu Sammelans in 1,03,009 locations — 58,964 mandals (urban centres) and 44,055 bastis (rural centres). A'Ghar-Ghar Sampark Abhiyan' is also being planned to reach out to maximum households.
RSS national prachar pramukh Sunil Ambedkar said on Monday that during the Delhi meeting Sangh primarily held discussions on engaging society more effectively and encouraged broader public participation in constructive work. He said that while the country was moving forward, it is not enough to progress solely in terms of economy and technology. "It is equally important to have unique characteristics of our society, such as individual welfare, living together harmoniously, and being mindful of the environment," he said, adding that the main goal for the centenary year was inclusive outreach across professions, geographies, and communities to foster holistic social integration.
For decades, a political analyst said, RSS has advocated Hindu unity through the lens of cultural nationalism rather than through direct engagement with entrenched caste inequalities. The new emphasis on "internal misconceptions" and caste disparities indicates a clear pivot—one that acknowledges the deep-rooted fault lines within Hindu society. "This could mark the Sangh's most structured outreach to Dalits, OBCs, and marginalised castes, moving beyond symbolism to active social discourse," the analyst said.
The initiative comes in the backdrop of opposition parties, especially the Samajwadi Party and Congress' aggressive push for "social justice" and the PDA narrative. Analysts said RSS's attempt to dilute caste divisions under the banner of Hindu unity could blunt the emerging 'Mandal 2.0 wave'. Experts also believe that RSS plans, however, will face the test of lower castes genuinely feeling included instead of taking it just as top-down tokenism.

"Part Of Our Culture": Kerala Governor Backs 'Guru Puja' Amid Row
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Sunday strongly defended the practice of 'guru puja' observed by a section of people, saying that "offering flowers at the feet of teachers is part of Indian culture". His remarks came a day after the CPI(M)-led LDF government strongly criticised the recent performance of 'pada puja' (feet washing rituals) in two CBSE schools in the state. He questioned the criticism directed at the ritual and asked, "I don't understand which culture these people come from". The state government sought an explanation from the management of these schools. State General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Saturday expressed shock over reports that students were made to wash the feet of retired teachers. He termed the act "condemnable" and "against democratic values". "Guru puja is part of our culture, where we offer flowers at the feet of our gurus... But some people have objected to it. I don't understand which culture they belong to," the Governor said while speaking at a programme organised by Balagokulam, a right-wing outfit, in Balaramapuram. Highlighting the importance of "honouring teachers", Arlekar said gurus are "great souls" and "deserve respect". "If we forget our culture, we forget ourselves-we'll be nowhere in this world," he claimed. Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan strongly criticised the ritual, calling it part of an alleged "RSS agenda to erode Kerala's secular and democratic fabric." "No one is against respecting or honouring teachers," he said, adding, "But this ritual, which was abandoned centuries ago, is rooted in feudal culture and aims to revive chaturvarnya, the ancient caste system." He further alleged that such practices "aim to instil a slave mentality in the younger generation, especially in RSS-controlled schools." Media reports said 'pada puja' ceremonies were held in two CBSE schools under the Bharatheeya Vidyanikethan management in Kasaragod and Mavelikkara on Guru Purnima Day, observed last Thursday. Minister Sivankutty said the Director of Public Instruction (DPI) had been directed to seek explanations from the schools. "Practices that promote a slave mentality are unacceptable under any circumstances. Education must instil knowledge and self-awareness," he stated. He added that the Department of General Education has the authority to act against schools under any syllabus that violates the Right to Education Act and related regulations. The ruling CPI(M)'s student wing, Students' Federation of India (SFI), and the Opposition Congress's student outfit, Kerala Students' Union (KSU), also condemned the ritual and demanded action against the school managements.

CPM too opposed changes to Preamble during Emergency, now blaming RSS: Sangh-linked magazine
After RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's recent remarks questioning the inclusion of the words 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Constitution's Preamble sparked a row, RSS-affiliated magazine Organiser has carried a cover story on the topic. Its focus: CPI(M)'s opposition to the Emergency-era 42nd Amendment that led to the addition of the words to the Preamble. The magazine has also published a sharply worded editorial accusing the Congress and the Left of distorting the legacy of the Emergency and turning the RSS into a political scapegoat. While critics, particularly from the Left and the Congress, labelled Hosabale's remarks an ideological attack on the Constitution, Organiser's cover story by Ganesh Radhakrishnan in its latest issue sought to highlight what it called the CPI(M)'s 'original position' on the matter, one that it claimed closely mirrored the RSS's stand. Citing a 1976 pamphlet the CPI(M) published during the Emergency, the article said the party had explicitly criticised the addition of 'socialist' and 'secular', viewing them as a political manoeuvre by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to centralise power. The pamphlet, later republished in Malayalam by Chintha Publishers in 2005, warned that the amendment was part of a broader strategy to turn the Constitution into an instrument of one-party rule under Gandhi. The CPI(M)'s alternative proposal of 26 amendments at the time made no mention of 'socialist' or 'secular' either, the Organiser article claimed. According to the article, in a preface to the republished volume, senior CPI(M) leader P Govinda Pillai had opposed the amendments tooth and nail. 'Indira Gandhi wanted to portray that the declaration of Emergency and the constitutional amendments were not an expression of fascist tendencies, but rather, an effort to defeat fascist forces and implement democracy and socialism … These changes were not based on democratic consensus but on political expediency,' Pillai is quoted as saying. The article said Hosabale's recent statements had 'not deviated from its original position even today'. 'The onus now falls upon the CPM to clarify whether its stance has changed,' Radhakrishnan wrote. It also quoted CPI(M) general secretary M A Baby's remarks following Hosabale's statement to make its point. 'RSS's demand to remove socialism and secularism from the Constitution's Preamble is a direct assault on India's core values. RSS always pushed Manusmriti over our Constitution,' Baby said. Building on this, Organiser editor Prafulla Ketkar, in his editorial, accused the Congress and Left of historical revisionism. 'This year marks the fifty years of the dark days of the Emergency… Instead of recognising the personal dictatorial ambitions of Ms Indira Gandhi as the root cause of the Emergency, an attempt is being made to divert the blame to a selfless leader like JP (Jayaprakash Narayan) and a nationalist organisation like RSS,' Ketkar wrote. 'When RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale spoke about how 'secularism' and 'socialism' were inserted into the Constitution during the Emergency, he was exposing this hypocrisy. Dr Ambedkar was unmistakable when he called out Communists as the enemies of the Constitution while dedicating the final draft to the nation in 1949. Various outfits with allegiance to communism have openly called the Constitution 'bourgeoisie', and most of them vowed to overthrow it someday,' he added. Ketkar accused the Congress of repeatedly trying to undermine constitutional democracy, citing Nehru's First Amendment and the UPA's proposed Communal Violence Bill, and dismissed the CPI(M)'s claims of ideological consistency. While the CPI(M) has yet to officially respond to the Organiser article, the party has maintained in the past that it opposed the Emergency and the way the constitutional changes were carried out, but supports the substantive values of socialism and secularism. The Congress has also repeatedly defended the incorporation of these principles as essential to India's democratic and plural ethos. In his address at a recent event in Delhi at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Hosabale said: 'During the Emergency, two words, 'secular' and 'socialist', were added to the Constitution, which were not part of the original Preamble. There was no Parliament, no rights, no judiciary functioning, and yet these words were added. That is why this matter must be discussed.'

UP's Chhangur Baba travelled to Nepal to secure ties with Pak's ISI: Sources
In a fresh and explosive revelation, sources have revealed that Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba - the self-styled godman at the centre of a multi-state religious conversion racket - had travelled to Kathmandu in a bid to strengthen ties with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). This alleged move goes beyond the ongoing illegal religious conversion case in which Baba is already facing serious from orchestrating the religious conversion of economically weak Hindu families, Chhangur was allegedly planning to establish direct links with the ISI. According to sources, he wanted Hindu women - who had been converted to Islam - to be married off to ISI agents and sleeper cell operatives in agencies arrested Chhangur Baba and his two close associates - Neetu and Naveen - just in time, thereby averting what officials described as a potential national security disaster. A recent meeting of ISI agents was reportedly held at the Pakistani Embassy in Kathmandu. A delegation from Pakistan's National Defence University also participated in the event, which was attended by ISI officials. The Pakistani delegation even visited the India-Nepal border said Chhangur was seeking to establish contact with the Pakistani Embassy through a religious leader based in Nepal, but due to security restrictions, he was unable to enter the further revealed that Chhangur was trying to establish a base in Barhni, located in Uttar Pradesh. His next plan reportedly involved bringing in batches of Rohingya refugees, falsely presenting them as Hindus, and then converting them to religious conversion network allegedly spread across multiple Indian states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, West Bengal, and various districts of Uttar Pradesh. The gang also had links with the late gangster Mukhtar Ansari's henchmen," Khan claimed, adding that he possesses photographic evidence of these also revealed that just before Baba's arrest, a member of the Rabbani gang managed to join the Uttar Pradesh Raksha Parishad (UP Defence Council), fuelling concerns about the gang's influence within administrative said he met Changur Baba in 2023 and had no association with him before that."He tried to frame me in a property case, and I had to take him to court.
