India salutes courage of ancestors: CM
Joining a Tiranga Yatra in Cuttack, he also called upon all to take pride in participating in the 'Har Ghar Triranga Abiyan'. 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is not merely a day for us; it is an occasion to recall that dark chapter of our history when the British and certain vested interests, for their political ambitions, fragmented our Mother India,' Majhi said in a post on X.
In the partition of 1947, millions of brothers and sisters were displaced, countless families were torn apart, and thousands of innocent people were killed solely based on religion, he said. 'Today's India has been built on their courage, sacrifice, and resolute determination.
On the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we remember their struggle and sacrifice and pay our heartfelt tributes to them,' the Chief Minister said.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government is not only remembering the past, but is also correcting the 'injustice of history'.
'Article 370 has been removed from Kashmir, and the dream of 'One Nation-One Law- One Flag has been fulfilled. Whether it is the border or the world, today India is not compromising its integrity and sovereignty; it is giving a strong response to the aggressors,' he said.
The Chief Minister, along with thousands of people, participated in the Tiranga Yatra campaign organised by the BJP.
'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, based on our tricolour national flag, is being held for three days across the country from August 12. Today, I participated in the Tiranga Yatra rally held at the 42 Mouza locality of the Cuttack Sadar region. Main aim of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign is to give due respect to the national flag and create widespread awareness among people,' he said in another post on X.

Uttarakhand Cabinet approves changes to anti-conversion law
Dehradun: The state cabinet's approval for bringing another legislation to amend the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act makes this law, which is aimed at preventing religious conversions through coercion, fraud, or undue influence, even more stringent. This is the second legislation to amend the act which has been in force in Uttarakhand since 2018. The first amendment was made in 2022 when Pushkar Singh Dhami assumed office as chief minister for a second consecutive term. The second amendment legislation approved by the state cabinet on Wednesday provides for a max-imum punishment of life imprisonment and fine of up to Rs 10 lakh for forced conversion. The maximum prison term for the offence in Uttarakhand at present is 10 years and the highest fine is Rs 50,000. The new bill proposes to raise the jail term for such offences up to 14 or 20 years and can be extend-ed to even life imprisonment depending upon the gravity of a case. The state government is preparing to bring the legislation during the monsoon session of the state assembly scheduled to commence on August 19, sources said. 'Yet another amendment legislation to make the law even more strict has been occasioned by recent cases of conversions in the state aimed at demographic change,' BJP leader and former chairman of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple committee Ajendra Ajay said. Terming the Cabinet's decision as historic, he said, 'An amended act with stricter provisions will work as a strong deterrent for potential offenders and help preserve the original identity of a border state like Uttarakhand which is also known as Devbhoomi.' Ajendra, who had actively raised the issue of land jihad in the state, said a new stricter law against conversion is the need of the hour. It will help counter a 'nationwide campaign' being run regarding conversion at present, he said.

MMDR Amendment Bill to boost jobs, accelerate critical mineral exploration: Standing Committee Member
BJP MP and Standing Committee on Coal, Mines & Steel member Roopkumari Choudhary has said the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025, passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, will strengthen state rights, generate employment, and bolster the economy through more efficient use of mineral resources. Choudhary told ANI that the legislation grants states greater authority over mining, including the right to sell mining waste, boosting local revenues and aiding environmental management. States will also have a role in the proposed mineral exchange to monitor production, reserves, and sales. 'This Bill significantly enhances states' rights, promotes employment, and strengthens the economic condition by enabling better utilisation of mineral resources,' she said. The amendments aim to simplify the mining regime, promote zero-waste mining, and advance the objectives of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), given the growing importance of minerals such as lithium, graphite, nickel, and cobalt for electric vehicles, battery manufacturing, and high-tech industries. Key provisions include raising National Mineral Exploration Trust funding from 2 per cent to 3 per cent, expanding lease areas by up to 30 per cent, allowing sale of 100 per cent captive mine output with additional royalty, and permitting private players and FDI in critical mineral exploration. The Bill also enables offshore exploration and foreign critical mineral projects. Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy told the House that the legislation will help address global supply chain constraints in critical minerals and boost domestic exploration. Under the NCMM, the Geological Survey of India is tasked with 1,200 exploration projects from 2024-25 to 2030-31.
