"India will be a very crucial partner going forward," Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu says

Muizzu, while talking to reporters on the sidelines of their Independence Day celebration, said that he was excited to see the implementation of the MoUs signed here and the implementation of the UPI.
"We all see how India has helped the Maldives in the past, and nobody will doubt how India will be a very crucial partner going forward," he said.
When asked about agreements with India related to the Line of Credit, debt repayment, FTA, and UPI, Muizzu said that it will help the locals as well as tourists.
"Definitely it will greatly help the Maldives going forward. So we are really looking forward to implementing the agreements and the MoUs we have signed. I think both our countries, people are looking forward because it will definitely benefit the tourists who come here and for the Maldivians who go to India. We are very hopeful, very hopeful. I think we just started on it and definitely help locals and tourists from India who come here. We hope to conclude it very soon," he said.

Muizzu further thanked PM Modi for accepting his invitation to the Independence Day celebrations.
"On behalf of all the Maldivians, I sincerely thank Prime Minister Modi for accepting my invitation to come to the Maldives on this very important historic occasion," he said.
Muizzu hoped to see a rise in tourism from India post PM Modi's visit.
"Well, India is one of the major tourism countries that helps the Maldives with tourism. And definitely with Prime Minister's visit, it is going to increase a lot and I'm surepeople to people exchange between the two countries will greatly boost," he said.
Muizzu said that PM Modi was a wonderful person and is fond of building good relations with his neighbours.
"PM Modi is a wonderful person who is very fond of building relationships between India's neighbours. The Maldives and India have a very good relationship that goes back centuries, and with PM Modi's leadership, cooperation between the two governments is going to be even more prosperous in the days ahead," he said.
On being asked about his plan to visit India this year, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu says, "I hope so. I don't know whether this year or not, but maybe in the near future."

Diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines were established in November 1949. In his address at an event held here in November 2024 to mark the 75th anniversary of India-Philippines diplomatic relations, Jaishankar had said that their bilateral ties are rooted in democratic values, pluralistic ethos and economic commonalities, and the friendship between the two countries is truly an "enduring one" that is now poised to move to a "higher orbit". He had also said that both the nations are "deeply committed to upholding international law, norms and rules".

PM Modi to address NDA parliamentary meeting on August 5
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the BJP-led NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), a get-together of the ruling alliance's MPs which is being held after a considerable gap. The NDA meeting comes a couple of days before the filing of nomination for Vice-President's election begins from August 7. The NDA will have to announce its candidate, whose election will be a certainty due to the alliance's majority in the electoral college, by August 21, the last date of nomination-filing and the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting comes in the middle of a session which has been all but a washout so far, except for a two-day discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, due to a united Opposition's ceaseless protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar by the Election Commission of India. Mr. Modi is expected to speak on a host of current issues as the Opposition has been raising the heat over the poll body's alleged partisan conduct favouring the government, and the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister is also likely to be felicitated by the parliamentary party over his government's military response to the terror strike. The electoral college for the vice president poll includes MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, and its current strength is 782. If the Opposition also names a candidate, a distinct possibility, then the poll is scheduled to be held on September 9. Sources said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and a few BJP national general secretaries are likely to be coordinating with allies for the vice presidential poll. Since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP lost its majority but comfortably crossed the halfway mark with allies, the sessional meeting of the party's MPs was expanded to include its allies. PM Modi had addressed the first such meeting on July 2. However, no meeting has been held in the last few sessions. Before the last national elections, he used to address the weekly meetings of BJP parliamentary party, now expanded to include party's allies such as the TDP, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas). The meeting is attended by MPs of the ruling alliance, and Mr. Modi often covers a sweep of political and governance issues, and at times touches on the government's agenda in Parliament. He often offers to the MPs talking points to be raised in public, especially their constituencies.

TDP, YSRCP have failed A.P.: Ex-Union Minister
Former Union Minister and Congress Party senior leader Killi Kruparani alleged that both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MPs have failed to exert pressure on the Union government in regards to implementing Special Category Status (SCS) and other statutory assurances outlined in the AP Reorganization Act-2014 which was enacted by the then UPA government to protect the interests of residual Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the media on Monday, Ms Kruparani said, 'All the 25 Lok Sabha members and 11 Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh have 'completely surrendered' to the Modi-led government. This is evident with with their silence in Parliament over key issues such as SCS, ₹70,000 crore package, financial assistance for Amaravati construction and other projects.' She charged the TDP led NDA government of failing to meet the expectations of people and instead prioritising and focussing only on political vendetta to settle scores with the YSRCP. Ms. Kruparanni sarcastically asked the government to construct more jails since many leaders, officials were expected to be jailed in future. The Congress Party senior leader Gadem Venkata Trinnadha Rao, Killi Ramamohana Rao, Rella Suresh and others were present.
