10 pounds of marijuana, $22K in cash seized from bust of Macomb County hookah shops
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office seized about 10 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people in connection with a drug bust of a pair of hookah and tobacco shops.
On Monday, members of the Macomb County Sheriff's Enforcement Team served search warrants at Area 51 Hookah and Tobacco shops in Clinton Township and Mount Clemens, as well as at a home on Holland Avenue in Eastpointe.
Authorities say they seized about 600 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, approximately 10 pounds of marijuana, two rifles with magazines, three pistols with magazines and $22,756 in cash, as well as a Jeep Wagoneer and a Chevrolet Silverado.
A 44-year-old Eastpointe man and a 33-year-old Clinton Township man were arrested. The two men are lodged at the Macomb County Jail and are expected to be arraigned Tuesday.

Man arrested in connection with Norfolk woman's shooting death in Newport News
Newport News Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide that occurred in May. Benjamin Forrest Carter, 29, of Newport News, was arrested on Saturday and charged with first-degree murder, as well as several weapons offenses, in the death of Karen Yvonne Watkins, according to police. He was earlier identified as a suspect in the case. Karen Yvonne Watkins, 37, of Norfolk, was shot in the southeast section of Newport News, in the area of 27th Street and Wickham Avenue. Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area at about 11:21 p.m. Sunday. That system is designed to pick up audio signals of shots fired and determine where they are coming from. Officers found Watkins with at least one gunshot wound when they arrived. She died after being taken to a local hospital.

Woman wanted on warrant for CT vehicle theft allegedly attempts to flee from state police at court
A woman tried fleeing from state police at a courthouse in Manchester on Monday as troopers were trying to arrest her on a warrant connected to a theft investigation, state police said. Troopers at 2:13 p.m. responded to Manchester Superior Court after learning that a woman there had a warrant out for her arrest, according to Connecticut State Police. While taking the suspect into custody — who was identified as 25-year-old Jada Williams of Worcester, Massachusetts — she reportedly ran from troopers and tried getting into a vehicle, state police said. She was brought out of the vehicle before she could get away, at which point she continued resisting troopers, according to state police. Williams was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit receipt from illegal use of credit card and interfering with an officer. According to state police, the warrant out for her arrest stemmed from an incident in October 2024 when she allegedly broke into a vehicle and stole several things from inside. The stolen items included several credit and debit cards, which state police allege Williams used to rack up more than $1,000 in charges. Williams was held on bonds totaling $100,000 and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Rockville Superior Court.
