Travis Kelce completes mad dash from Cannes to Kansas City for first day of Chiefs minicamp

Daily Mail4 hours ago

The distance from Cannes to Kansas City encompasses eight time zones and nearly 8,000 miles, neither of which was enough to keep Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce from the opening of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old NFL superstar and his brother Jason were among the invited guests at the Amazon Port Panel in Cannes, where the Kelces dutifully promoted their highly successful podcast, New Heights.
Less than 24 hours later, Kelce was back to work at his other job preparing for the upcoming 2025 NFL campaign.
Both Kelce and newly re-signed right guard Trey Smith mostly skipped organized team activities last month before making their mandatory appearances on Tuesday. The only absentee in Kansas City was tight end Tre Watson, according to local media.
The mandatory minicamp will continue through Thursday.
Unlike last year, when he and girlfriend Taylor Swift couldn't stay out of the spotlight, Travis has enjoyed a much quieter break from NFL duties this time around, with the couple keen to unwind together away from the cameras in recent months.

He will be desperate to enter the 2025 season in optimum shape after putting up some of the worst individual numbers of his career in 2024, which led many to believe his career was coming to an end.
However, after admitting he was weighing up his future, the Chiefs icon confirmed to Pat McAfee at the end of February that he is not hanging up his cleats just yet.
Kelce recently explained his reasoning to Jason on New Heights: 'I think the biggest thing is that I f***ing love playing the game of football. I still feel I can play at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year.
'I don't think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I've been in years past.
'I want to give it a good run. I've got a bad taste in my mouth on how I ended the year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was for the people around me. I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility and the community and it's home for me now.
'I don't want to leave that life yet. I put in a lot of hard work and focus into being the best I can be for Kansas City and last year it didn't end well for us. I feel there's a responsibility in me to play out the contract I initially signed to give the organization everything that I've got and that's what I'm going to do man.'
Of course, when he does hang up his cleats, Kelce can always just focus on podcasting.
As he and Jason explained in Cannes, the idea behind New Heights was to give their audience a window into their family dynamic.
'I think we've always wanted to show everybody our brotherhood, our family, how we're in this crazy football world together supporting each other from different sides of the country.
'It was an opportunity to honestly spend more time together,' Travis said.
Jason then admitted: 'we would go months in the season without really talking to each other.'

Goliath, a Galapagos tortoise weighing 517lb, had never had kids despite trying with a number of females over the years. 3 3 3 But one of eight eggs laid in January by his long-term partner Sweet Pea hatched just in time for Father's Day after 128 days of incubation. The hatchling was born at Zoo Miami in Florida on June 4. It is the first Galapagos tortoise to be bred there. Goliath is believed to have hatched in the Galapagos around 1890. He was acquired by New York's Bronx Zoo in 1929 before moving to Zoo Miami in 1981.

Insiders reveal first impressions of Aaron Rodgers after first practices with Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers practiced for the first time as a Steeler last week, and some insiders believe that Pittsburgh should be bullish about their newest quarterback. Rodgers, 41, signed with the black and yellow on a one-year, $13.65million deal to finally end the speculation surrounding his next move. And while the quarterback was cut by the Jets this winter, several coaches who 'watched Rodgers closely' last year - including members of the Jets, told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that they believe Pittsburgh got a 'steal.' 'He's still throwing the s*** out of the ball, honestly,' an NFL offensive coach was quoted as saying in the piece. 'He's the best quarterback they've had since [Ben Roethlisberger]. We will see how the body holds up, but I think he's going to help them immensely.' An AFC executive also added that the 'mobility is an issue,' but still believes he can Rodgers can improve the team's offense. '... Where he helps them is with the plus arm strength and the field vision from the pocket. They haven't had that. I'm not sure that will be enough, but the offense will be at least respectable.' Since longtime quarterback Roethlisberger's last season in 2021, Pittsburgh have struggled for production at the position, with Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky getting snaps under center in the two seasons following his retirement. Last season was certainly a step forward with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson - and the team made the playoffs with a 10-7 record - but the offense faded in the latter stages of the season. Wilson is now a Giant, while Fields signed with the Jets. In fact, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers would've preferred to retain Fields or lure Matthew Stafford to Pittsburgh over signing 'third choice' Rodgers. Nonetheless, Rodgers had hugely respectable numbers last season for New York, as he tossed 28 touchdowns and nearly reached 4,000 passing yards. Speaking to the Pittsburgh media for the first time last week, Rodgers - who announced he had recently gotten married - said his decision to join the Steelers came 'from the soul.' 'I don't need it for my ego. I don't need it to keep playing. A lot of decisions that I've made over my career and life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling.' Rodgers also spoke on the personal issues which had seemingly delayed his decision, saying that 'things improved a little bit where I felt like I could fully be all in here with the guys. 'Had a great conversation with Mike [Tomlin] throughout the entire process and [Steelers GM] Omar [Khan] but it's good to get that done and get behind us.' Rodgers will travel back to the Jets in Week 1 for the Steelers' opening matchup of the season.
