Paige Bueckers' New Post Before First WNBA Season Catches Attention

Yahoo15-05-2025
The Dallas Wings have been struggling for years, but they have some new hope for the upcoming WNBA season and the future in the form of rookie Paige Bueckers.
Bueckers was the No. 1 pick in last month's draft after a stellar college career at UConn. She led the school to the women's NCAA championship just weeks ago when it defeated South Carolina easily in the final game.

Now she will look to turn the Wings into winners after they went just 9-31 last year. She posted a photo of herself in a Wings jersey on her Instagram account with a one-word message.
"Rook," the caption read.
The Wings have had a winning record just once ever since they moved to Dallas from Tulsa, Okla. for the 2016 season. In Bueckers, they will have a potential superstar to build around.

The six-foot guard averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists a game while shooting 53.1% from the field and 42.3% from 3-point range during her career at UConn. She won both the AP Player of the Year and John R. Wooden awards in 2021, and this past season, she was awarded the Wade Trophy for being the best upperclass women's player in the nation.

She can score efficiently from all three levels and can play multiple positions, and her style of play has been compared to that of WNBA legends Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.
Dallas will begin its 2025 regular season at home versus the Minnesota Lynx on Friday.

Caitlin Clark misses another practice as Fever call her prospect of return 'status quo'

Two-time All-Star guard Caitlin Clark missed another practice with her injured right groin Wednesday, and coach Stephanie White still does not have a timetable for her star's return. Clark has not played since hurting her groin in the final minute of a game July 15 at Connecticut. Three different muscle injuries this season have forced Clark to sit out 22 games including the last 13 — and All-Star weekend in Indianapolis. The worst part: White is simply hoping Clark returns for some of her team's last nine regular-season games. Indiana also lost three other key players with season-ending injuries over the last two weeks. "Until she can get into practice and until you guys see her in practice, it's really status quo,' White said after Wednesday's workout at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark never missed a game in college and played in every Fever game last season when she won the WNBA's Rookie of the Year Award. Indiana spent the offseason going all-in on putting a stronger supporting cast around the former Iowa star and those moves appear to have paid off by keeping the Fever in playoff position without Clark and the rest. But Clark still has a role with the Fever. 'Caitlin's still there, like that hasn't wavered,' All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell said. 'And I think even though they're not in the lineup, we still feel everyone's presence.' ___ AP WNBA:

Caitlin Clark reportedly sustained bone bruise in ankle during workout on Aug. 7 in addition to her lingering groin injury

Caitlin Clark reportedly has another injury concern in addition to the right groin injury that's sidelined her for multiple weeks. The Indiana Fever star sustained a bone bruise in her left ankle during a workout on Aug. 7, according to Fever reporters Scott Agness and Chloe Peterson. Per Peterson's report, the bone bruise is "mild," and Clark would still be sidelined with the groin injury regardless of the ankle injury. The news of the bone bruise two weeks after it reportedly happened further muddies Clark's status for the remainder of the season. Prior to the news on Wednesday, Fever coach Stephanie White offered an update to media that didn't provide any clarity. 'Until she can get into practice, and until you guys see her in practice, it's really status quo, same as same as we have been,' White said. Clark remained sidelined during the practice session that was open to media and did not speak with reporters. This story will be updated.
