Sam Ryder's message to Remember Monday on Eurovision: Nothing can define you
The British trio, made up of friends Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele who attended school in Hampshire, finished 19th in May after receiving 88 points from the national juries for their song What The Hell Just Happened?
The trio were the UK's first girl group entrant since 1999, and fared slightly worse than Olly Alexander who came 18th in Malmo in 2024, but better than 2023 representative Mae Muller, who placed second last in 2023.
The UK's 2022 Eurovision entrant Ryder, 35, was the first British act to come second since Imaani in 1998, and the first to make it to the top five since Jade Ewen with It's My Time in 2009.
Remember Monday was chosen by David May, who has been Ryder's manager, and headed up the BBC's search for the next Eurovision contestant.
Ryder was asked on ITV's This Morning about Remember Monday, and responded saying: 'Nothing can define you past that point.
'It's about singing for the love of singing and writing for the love of writing, and it's a privilege to be asked to go, do you know what I mean?
'And there's a lot of people that are all hoping for a certain outcome, and of course, it can't happen for every single person.
'And I just hope that every single person that took to that stage can really understand what an amazing job it is to even get there, and it (Eurovision) doesn't owe you anything, because music's given you everything already.
'If you truly love this thing, and you love this craft and love pursuing what it does to your spirit, how can you put, like, a metric on anything else past that?
'So please God, every single person that was there on that night came home and feels like they were part of something magic, because that's what it is.'
Ryder also said that those taking part deserve 'respect', and he was sending them 'loads of love', while being on the road during the contest last month.
The contest in Basel, Switzerland, in May was won by Austria's JJ with his emotional song Wasted Love.
Ryder, wearing a Dolly Parton T-shirt on This Morning, also said that he has put down 'roots' in Nashville, which is associated with the country singer.
He added: 'It's been a dream for a long time (to move there) and, but I didn't realise… finishing the album, my studio's here in the UK, so (I had) to come straight back and get the album done, so the problem is I've had zero sleep.'
Ryder, from Essex, began as a TikTok star.
He signed to the Parlophone record label, part of Warner Music Group, and released his debut EP, The Sun's Gonna Rise, in 2021, before going to Eurovision in 2022.
He was nominated for an Emmy for his Ted Lasso single, Fought & Lost, which he co-wrote for the hit Apple TV+ comedy.
He has released new music including a Christmas single, You're Christmas To Me, which reached number two in the charts and a number one album titled There's Nothing But Space, Man!

But who are these new faces that promise to occupy our summer viewing schedule and keep us hooked every night? 19 Host Maya Jama will be welcoming the new contestants to the villa on Monday Credit: ITV Well, in a case of mildly disappointing déjà vu, they seem to be the same faces we've seen for the last 10 years and counting. Yes, it's been a decade now since Love Island debuted on our TV screens - and those 10 years have produced more lookalikes than the permanent exhibition at Madame Tussauds. Every year we see a merry band of twentysomething singletons rock up in their skimpies, swearing they're so unique in their quest to find the one. And every year, without fail, they all look just the same as the ones who went before them. Honestly, how unique can you be when you're primped, buffed and preened to look like a walking, talking Love Island animatron, freshly churned out from the reality TV factory? The answer is: not very. When it comes to the girls, it's safe to say they ring a certain bell with their deep spray tans, and long wavy hair. Case in point, we have Dubliner Megan Forte Clarke, who could easily be a stand-in for fellow Irish lass and former villa dweller Maura Higgins. The two may not be related, but maybe there's something in the water over on the Emerald Isle. Then there are the boys, whose pecs are chiselled in the likeness of their predecessors. Ten Years of Love Island 19 Is that you, Maura? No, it's Megan Forte Clarke 19 We first thought Alima Gagio was Yewande from season five Take Tommy Bradley, whose megawatt smile and perfectly coiffed helmet hair make him an uncanny replacement for former winner Jack Fincham. Other clones - sorry, contestants - in the mix include Alima Gagio, Dejon Noel-Williams, Helena Ford and Megan Moore, who all bear glaring similarities with bygone Love Islanders. And it's not just the aesthetics. Already, we have the newbies promising us they're single and ready to mingle. But as they utter tired lines like 'my type on paper', 'putting all my eggs in one basket' and 'can I pull you for a chat?', it feels - once again - like we're just re-watching previous seasons. Even Iain Stirling can't hide his ennui. His voiceovers during the All Stars season in January hinted at a funnyman who knows he's worn out the same jokes about the same contestants ad nauseam. In the past, of course, the show has been slammed for its lack of diversity when it comes to race, age and body type - something producers have tried to improve upon. But as the new Islanders were unveiled this week, it was clear that producers hadn't tried hard enough. So, the question is why? There's an old adage: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And when it comes to the show's casting process, that seems to be ITV's MO. But the trouble is, it is broke. Earlier this year the show garnered 1.2m viewers for its grand final, which pales in comparison to the 3.4m people who tuned in to watch the show's final in 2019. Meanwhile rival reality show The Traitors, which actually casts normal-looking people with genuinely interesting backstories, pulled in more than seven million people for its explosive finale back in January. Clearly we're all getting a little tired of Love Island's same old song and dance routine - and the same roster of challenges, from Snog, Marry, Pie to the heart rate challenge. And ITV don't seem to be paying any attention. They're evidently looking for the daters who are 100 per cent their type on paper - even if they're copying and pasting, year by year. Will we still be watching? Yes, absolutely. But don't blame us if we still confuse the new Islanders for their bygone love-a-likes. The differences are subtle. Even Iain Stirling would struggle to tell them apart. Megan Forte Clarke and Maura Higgins 19 Megan is entering the villa on Monday Credit: Instagram/@meghanforteclarke 19 She'll be following in the footsteps of her villa lookalike, Maura New recruit Megan, 24, may have played the ugly stepsister in a panto production of Cinderella, but she's gunning for her own happy ever after in the villa. And judging by her striking looks, she won't be getting any boos and hisses inside. Followers have already compared her to Maura, 34, whose own modelling career skyrocketed after appearing in Love Island season five. Whether she meets the one or not, odds are that Megan's set for a similar trajectory (Oh no she isn't! Oh yes she is!) We assume, given that we can't crane our necks that high to see. Meanwhile, it's not just beauty that these two have in common - they have the brains to match. While Yewande is a scientist, with a masters in pharmaceutical quality assurance and regulation, Alima is a client services executive in wealth management. Whether she cashes in once in the villa remains to be seen. The 34-year-old, who featured in the fourth series of the ITV reality show in 2018, suffered an unimaginable tragedy five years ago. 8 Dr Alex featured on the fourth series of Love Island Credit: Rex 8 Alex's brother Llyr sadly died by suicide aged 19 His younger brother Llyr, also an aspiring doctor, took his own life aged 19 in 2020, leaving Alex and his family devastated. The sudden loss saw Alex struggle with PTSD, battle depression and pile on six stone. But he also developed facial tics, which become worse when he is anxious. Bravely opening up about how he copes with his demons, the Welsh doctor admitted he feels self-conscious of his involuntary movements, especially when people stare, and manages them with Botox injections. "In my life there has been things that happened out of the blue that ended up being very difficult for me," he said. 'Bad things that then have made me very hyper vigilant. 'I have PTSD. I have had tics since I was very young - maybe eight or nine. 'They are linked to my neurodivergence, my ADHD, there is quite a lot of crossover. 'Interestingly when I am really anxious my tics get really bad, they get so much worse. 'Problem is, the more I focus on it the worse it is. If you bring attention to it, it just gets worse and worse. Speaking on his new motivational health podcast Stompcast, Alex added how Llyr's death has changed his own outlook on life. 'My brother was alive one second, we had a phone call, and he is not here any more," he said.
