Fortnite has introduced a new incentive to its limited game mode is of great interest to time-starved gamers and those on the go.
Fortnite's v36.20 update was released yesterday after some extended downtime, and brought with it a host of new changes and additions, skins, and more. To coincide with the new update, though, Epic Games has expanded on its Blitz Royale game mode, which is designed to be knocked out in just a few minutes.

Blitz Royale has players dropping into a significantly smaller map with just 32 players total — down from the 100 players in a typical Fortnite Battle Royale match. Every player is equipped with a Medallion, which offers a buff to players but also broadcasts their rough location on the minimap, letting players find each other much more quickly.
While a typical Fortnite Battle Royale match lasts around 15-20 minutes – or longer for particularly skilled players – while Blitz Royale is designed to wrap up in as little as five minutes.
It's a great idea, letting players knock out a few quick matches on their lunch break, and it gets updated every week with changes and updates to keep the mode feeling fresh before it disappears.
To celebrate the success of the game mode, players who log in to Fortnite right now will get a free celebratory cosmetic item, a Blitz Pickaxe item, which will appear in their inventory upon logging in. The free item is available between now and July 29, and is available for all players on every platform.
Check out what's coming every week in Blitz Royale, next up: Boon Bonanza!

Further updates to Blitz Royale in the next few weeks are also planned, with an "Envision the Void" update coming next week, a "Mega City Reborn" update coming the week after, and "Blitz Boss Rises" coming the week after that, on August 5. It's not known exactly what these updates will include, but it's bound to be exciting for fans of the speedy game mode.

Michelle Obama on Opening Up About Life With Barack—'It Can Feel Dangerous'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In a new interview, former first lady Michelle Obama spoke out about the "messy" and "complicated" aspects of life with her husband, former President Barack Obama, noting that sharing those details with the public "can feel dangerous." Newsweek reached out to Michelle Obama's representative via email on Wednesday for comment. Why It Matters The Obamas married on October 3, 1992, and share two daughters: Malia, 27, and Sasha, 24. Earlier this year, the couple faced divorce rumors, leading Michelle to address the speculation on several occasions. The rumors first began when she didn't attend former President Jimmy Carter's state funeral or President Donald Trump's inauguration in January. Most recently, Barack appeared on the podcast his wife co-hosts alongside her brother, Craig Robinson, and they poked fun at the rumor mill. When the couple greeted each other with a kiss, Robinson joked, "Wait, you guys like each other?" "She took me back!" Barack teased, to which Michelle said, "Now don't start." "It was touch and go for a while," he playfully added. Kevin Dietsch-Pool/Getty Images What To Know In an interview with Parents magazine published on Tuesday, the former first lady spoke out about revealing personal aspects of her life on IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson. "It's so easy for us to curl up into this protective instinct and not talk about the messy or more complicated bits of our lives," Obama said. "It can feel dangerous to expose those imperfect parts of ourselves. But over the years, I have learned that it's really the opposite." She said that when it came to parenting their daughters during his presidency, "Barack and I did everything we could to give our girls as normal of a life as possible." "When we were at the White House, we made sure they were doing things like making their beds every morning and as they got older, getting summer jobs. Once we left the White House, their lives slowly began to inch a little closer toward normalcy," the Becoming author said. "But the truth is, their circumstances have been extraordinary in so many ways—and that forced them to learn critical skills like discipline, flexibility, and determination to go after what they really wanted. And now here we are." Malia and Sasha are still "under more scrutiny than others their age," she said. Still, "they've learned to roll with the punches." "I'm always so impressed by how they handle it—with grace, resolve, and charm. These days, more than anything, I can't wait to see how they surprise us next." What People Are Saying On a recent episode of IMO, Michelle Obama spoke out about a parenting hack she and her husband currently use as empty nesters: "Barack and I, we are all about creating what we call 'the attractive nuisance.' We want to, you know, make it so that you want to be back here. There's that period when they leave in their early 20s, and they're just like, 'Bye! We're living our lives, and we're so happy to be sleeping on a dirty mattress and in college.' They're just now getting to the point where they hang around just a little, a couple of days longer, because the tub is clean and there are bath salts." What Happens Next IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson airs new episodes on Wednesdays on platforms like Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts.

Big Dog Shows Up at Dachshund Meetup, Unprepared for Response
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A group of dachshunds were left in a frenzy after a larger dog arrived at their group meetup in a park. A short clip of the moment, which was posted to TikTok by a dachshund owner in attendance, has left viewers on the platform in stitches. Viewers were able to see group of dachshunds—many on leash and close to their owners—barking in synchronized alarm at the arrival of a much larger canine. The video's comical timing and high-pitched chorus, set against upbeat indie pop music, led to it quickly gaining attention on the platform. To date, it has been viewed more than 248,000 times after being shared to TikTok by @oakleyandluna on July 6. While the breed of the intruding dog was not disclosed, the larger canine was met with a wall of tiny but unified protest after entering the dachshund meetup. The post, which has been liked more than 25,000 times, featured an overlaid text that read: "When a big dog shows up to the wiener dog meetup." "Sorry big dog, this was weenie territory," the dachshund owner added in the caption. Though no physical conflict occurred in the clip, the dachshunds' intense reaction was immediate. Known for their bold, occasionally reactive behavior—especially when confronted by unfamiliar, larger breeds—this group appeared to stand their ground. What followed was an eruption of barks that seemed to amuse the onlooking humans. The choice of soundtrack, a lighthearted indie tune, heightened the humor, playing counterpoint to the flurry of barks from the dachshund contingent. Viewers have since flooded the comments section with their reactions. "He doesn't even go here," one viewer said, referencing the humorous Mean Girls quote. "Dachshunds despise other breeds," another added. "A sausage barked at my greyhound the other day and she just looked at me like 'is that thing serious?'" Another commented. Sausage dog meetups are becoming a regular social event in many cities, bringing together owners and their dogs to socialize, share tips and celebrate the breed's distinctive charm. Dachshunds, originally bred in Germany for hunting, are well-known for their loud bark, bold personality and wariness around unfamiliar animals, particularly larger ones.
