Football legend and presenter narrowly avoids crash in £120k car

Daily Mirror01-08-2025
Dion Dublin was forced to make an emergency stop in his £120,000 Lotus Eletre R after one of the tyres on the car, which is built for speed, went bang - and he was lucky not to be in a crash
Football legend and television presenter Dion Dublin suffered a tyre blowout whilst driving his £120,000 Lotus - narrowly escaping a serious crash. The former Aston Villa striker faced the drama on the road when one of his tyres suddenly failed.

Dublin was enjoying a spin in his Lotus Eletre R when he was forced to pull over immediately. Thankfully, Mark from Yorkshire Rescue came to the aid of the Homes Under the Hammer star within just 30 minutes.

The celebrity's motor was then towed to the Cedar Court Hotel car park in Bradford. After the drama, Dublin organised for a mobile engineer to fit a new tyre on his luxury motor.

The ex-professional footballer seized the chance to take a selfie with the workers as a gesture of gratitude for their rapid assistance. Ozzy from Mobile Tyre Buddy dealt with the sports star's car, whilst Dublin took some snaps of the situation.
The tyre drama happened on Wednesday (30 Jul), according to NeedToKnow.

Dion Dublin said: "Well, that wasn't much fun. Huge thanks to Yorkshire Rescue, who were with me within 30 minutes, and a special thank you to Mark, top fella.
"Back in the game. Huge thanks to Mobile Tyre Buddy for the lightning-fast response. Ozzy was absolutely brilliant."
The drama left supporters stunned. Joanne O'Connell said: "So long as you and your family are ok, that's all that matters Dion."

Michael Clitheroe chimed in: "He looks right happy to have his picture taken." Mark Summers remarked: "Take it he wasn't a Villa fan."
Chris Albutt said: "At least you're safe and well Dion." Oliver chimed in: "Hardly surprising it's eating its own tyres when it weighs the same as the moon."
This comes on the heels of confirmation that Dublin has been given the green light to knock down his mansion and build luxury homes in its stead. He initially forked out £1.24 million for a mansion in the posh village of Caldy, Merseyside, with his wife last year.
While his initial plan was to refurbish the property, and even secured permission from Wiral Council to do so, he discovered that the 'poor physical condition' of the building meant it would be more practical and cost-effective to construct a new property. His new abode will feature a games and cinema room as well as five en-suite bedrooms and an upstairs laundry room.
He also intends to build new gate pillars at the entrance along with off-road parking for at least three cars.

Hundreds greet Kneecap rapper as he arrives at court on terror charge

Hundreds of Kneecap supporters waving flags and holding banners have greeted one of the rap trio's members as he arrived at court for allegedly supporting a proscribed terror organisation. Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, is accused of displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig in November last year. Demonstrations in support of the rapper were organised outside Westminster Magistrates' Court in London where he arrived on Wednesday, as well as in Dublin. The Metropolitan Police has imposed conditions limiting where the demonstration outside the court can take place, saying they are needed to 'prevent serious disruption'. O hAnnaidh was swamped by photographers as he arrived, with security officers taking more than a minute to usher him into the court building. Hundreds of supporters greeted the Kneecap rapper with cheers as he made his way from a silver people-carrier to the building. Fans held signs which read 'Free Mo Chara' while others waved Palestine and Irish flags before the rapper's arrival at court. Chants of 'free, free, Mo Chara' could also be heard over a megaphone, which was repeated by the crowd. In response to the Met imposing conditions on the protest, Kneecap described this move as a 'calculated political decision' that was 'designed to try and portray support for Kneecap as somehow troublesome', and 'asked supporters to go out of your way to be compliant with all instructions issued, irrespective of how pitiful'. O hAnnaidh received a rockstar welcome when he appeared at the same court in June, supported by fellow bandmates Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh. He was greeted by a festival-like atmosphere for his first court appearance, with dozens of fans waving flags, playing drums and one supporter setting off a smoke canister. The court previously heard the 27-year-old defendant is 'well within his rights' to voice his opinions on the Israel-Palestine conflict, but the alleged incident at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, was a 'wholly different thing'. O hAnnaidh is yet to enter a plea to the charge.

Spending surge in Dublin during Oasis gigs

Card spending in Dublin increased by 9 per cent over the weekend as Oasis played two sold-out Croke Park gigs, according to analysis from Revolut. Saturday was the first time in over 16 years that Oasis had played Ireland since Slane in 2009. Advertisement As a result of the two gigs, Revolut revealed that card spend soared by more than 9 per cent in Dublin last weekend when compared with the previous (August 9th-10th), with the volume of transactions rising by over 8 per cent. A similar surge in spending in Dublin was seen when Taylor Swift played at the Aviva Stadium last June. Over 16 per cent more was spent in Dublin bars, cafes, restaurants, and nightclubs over the weekend versus the previous one as fans partied hard. Anticipation had been building across the capital throughout August, with a pop-up store on St Stephen's Green setting the tone since opening on August 4th, as fans scrambled for sought-after Oasis merch. Advertisement Over last and the previous weekend, merchandise stores in Dublin recorded hundreds of thousands of euro in revenues, which is likely due to the store's lengthy queues. Owing to popular demand, the pop-up store has since announced extended dates. Oasis fans outside Croke Park. Taxi drivers also benefited from the concerts, with a 15 per cent uplift in revenues last weekend. For those that missed out on tickets, there was still a party atmosphere across the county, with Dublin sales of store-bought beer, wine, and liquor rising by over a third versus August 9th-10th. 'It's safe to say that Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' gave the Dublin economy a boost last weekend,' said general manager at Revolut Bank UAB - Ireland Branch, Malcolm Craig. 'Consumer spending of this level in just one weekend sends a very strong signal about the confidence of our more than 3 million customers in Ireland. Last weekend highlights the value of attracting genuine A-listers to Ireland and that Revolut remains Irish people's preferred way to spend.' Oasis's Noel Gallagher has said he is 'proud' of his brother Liam and that he forgot how 'funny' he was. Following their return to Ireland at the weekend with two sold-out shows at Croke Park, the Britpop star opened up about their Oasis Live '25 reunion tour adding that he is 'completely blown away' by the response. Advertisement Oasis announced their reunion tour in August last year, 15 years after their dramatic split in 2009, when Noel quit the band after a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, saying he 'simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer'. Liam and Noel Gallagher take to the stage at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff (Jordan Pettitt/PA) Speaking about the tour so far and their opening night in Cardiff, Noel said he was 'completely blown away'. He added: 'I can't speak for anyone else, but for me personally, I grossly underestimated what I was getting into. Advertisement 'It was kind of after about five minutes, I was like, all right, can I just go back to the dressing room and start this again? 'I've done stadiums before and all that, but I don't mind telling you, my legs had turned to jelly after about halfway through the second song. 'It's been an amazing thing. Really is an amazing thing. 'It's difficult to put into words actually. Advertisement 'Every night is the crowd's first night, you know what I mean? So every night's got that kind of same energy to it, but it's been truly amazing. I'm not usually short for words, but I can't really articulate it.
