Strictly star Amy Dowden gobsmacked after receiving letter from the King and Queen

Daily Mirror30-04-2025

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden admitted she was in shock after receiving a letter from King Charles and Queen Camilla inviting her to Buckingham Palace today. The much-loved professional dancer, 34, who is recovering from breast cancer, is on her way to London following her admirable campaigning to raise awareness about the disease.
Sharing a snap of her special invite while on the train today, Amy tagged the post with a number of shocked, heart and tearful emojis as she winged her way to the palace. The invitation, which was personally addressed to the Welsh wonder, read: "The Master of the Household is commanded by their Majesties to invite Ms Amy Dowden to a Reception to be given recognition of Community-Based Cancer support at Buckingham Palace by the King on Wednesday 30th April, 2025 at 6pm."
The decorated dancer was diagnosed with grade three aggressive breast cancer in May 2023. Amy had been on her honeymoon with husband, Ben Jones, when she discovered a lump in her breast.
However, she remained positive despite her heartbreaking diagnosis and numerous setbacks and regularly updated her followers, telling fellow cancer sufferers she was 'there with them'.
Both Amy's first and second cycles of chemotherapy resulted in emergency hospital stays and life-threatening complications, including sepsis and blood clots.
She later underwent a mastectomy and has since completed her chemotherapy treatments but was unable to compete in the 2023 series of Strictly.
In July 2023, she received a second diagnosis for "another type of cancer", and began chemotherapy in August. In February last year, the Strictly star revealed her latest health check showed "no evidence of disease", describing the news from doctors as "words I dreamed of" and her "biggest accomplishment yet".
Much to fans' delight Amy, whose BBC documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, gave an honest portrayal of the reality of living with breast cancer, returned to Strictly last year with JLS star, JB Gill, but heartbreakingly had to pull out of the show after suffering a foot injury.
Following the announcement, she said in an Instagram post: "The past few months I finally felt like me again. Cancer was no longer the first thing I thought of when I woke up. It was choreography, music choices, which dances in which order, what we needed to work on. I felt free again.
"My goal since hearing those words, 'You have cancer' was to get back on the Strictly dancefloor. It's been such a challenge to get back, one I devoted 2024 to which, with my incredible team, we got there. Something I wanted to do for myself and loved ones."
Amy has also been made an MBE for her services to Crohn's disease 'on behalf' of those who live with the incurable inflammatory bowel disease.
While the dancer is known for her positive vibes and dazzling dance moves while competing on the dance floor, it has been her admirable openness about her health struggles that has brought her even closer to viewers at home.
As an advocate and ambassador for the charity Crohn's & Colitis UK, she was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King's Birthday Honours for her services to fundraising and raising awareness of the disease.

Joe Swash in 'bizarre' confession about family life with Stacey Solomon

Former EastEnders star Joe Swash has lifted the lid on family life with wife Stacey Solomon and their six children. Joe Swash has opened up about his busy family life in his and Stacey Solomon's home, 'Pickle Cottage' in Essex and their six children Rex, six, Rose, three, and Belle, two. They also have Joe's son Harry, 17, and Stacey's sons Zachary, 17, and Leighton, 13. In an exclusive chat with OK!, the former I'm A Celeb winner spoke candidly about how losing his own dad at the age of 12 influenced the type of parent he's become. With their BBC show Stacey and Joe, which gives insight into their lives at Pickle Cottage, it's safe to say that the whole family are stars. ‌ But Joe admits that Stacey and himself don't dabble too much into the world of celebs when they're off the clock. In fact, he deemed this element of their family life 'bizarre'. ‌ He told OK: "To be honest, I think me and Stacey find it quite bizarre. We don't really flirt with the showbiz world – we very rarely go to openings and stuff. When me and Stacey are at work, we're at work – then when we're at home we just shut the door like any other family. "My dad was a London taxi driver and he'd come home for the evening and he'd shut the door and he wasn't a London taxi driver any more, he was just my dad. It's the same for me and Stacey and, although we both love what we do and feel so privileged to do it, when we come home our jobs are irrelevant." Although both parents work long and hard at their jobs in showbiz, they value an extended period of family time during the summer holidays. Joe explained: "We get so excited because we spend so much of the year with the kids going to school, the clubs, me and Stacey working, so we always take a chunk of time off for the summer holidays. It's our way of reconnecting as a family. Those holidays are really important to us." When asked if it was difficult to coordinate their calendars amid both of their busy schedules, the former EastEnders star said: "We do because what's the point in working all year if you can't get a chunk of time off together? We know once the summer's gone they're back to school, another school year older, so we want to make the most of it." ‌ He also spoke of happy childhood memories with his own dad, saying: "We didn't know how short our time was going to be with our dad, so those are really happy memories. We would get a caravan, hook it up to the car and drive it to a campsite in the South of France for four weeks. "It's the sort of thing that Stacey and I are trying to provide for our kids. It's what I hunger for and look back on with really fond memories." With so many kids in the house of different ages and personalities, Joe says it's important for them to make everybody in the family feel valued. ‌ He said: "The most important thing is making time for them, and their own hobbies and interests. We're at a point now where Rex loves his tennis, and Rose and Belle are into their dancing, and Zachary loves his cars – so they're all very different. We try to make sure they know that me and their mum know about their interests and no one is ever overlooked. "Then when they get time together – the older ones and the younger ones – they love it. It's amazing to see them all having fun, playing in the pool or whatever. We have moments where we're just like, 'Wow, look at this!' It's amazing." ‌ When asked if he was proud of the dad he had become, Joe confessed that he didn't think he was there quite yet. He admitted: I'm very much still in the midst of the kids growing up and they've all got different needs and are at different stages. I'm maybe too much in the moment to step back and think, 'Oh, that was good.' "I think in a couple of years' time, once the kids have all sort of found themselves, found their feet a bit more and established themselves a bit more, I'll be able to look back and think, 'Yeah, that was good.' "I'm learning all the time as a parent too and I don't think there's a real right or wrong way to do it. So maybe that's one for the future because I would love to look back at this time and feel proud." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Something like that would be incredible. I'd love all of that, it would be amazing. "I also love all the big dramas, like Succession. I think I'll go as far as to say it's the best thing I've ever watched. I just love it, so something like that would be incredible. A good, gritty drama."

Lizzo shows off weight-loss in bikini in dance video

Lizzo showed off her incredible weight loss in a bikini after recently refusing to reveal the number of pounds she has lost. On Saturday, the star, 37, shared a video of herself dancing in a gray and pink bikini in her backyard on Instagram. In the clip, she also wore a black balaclava. Seemingly teasing a new song, Lizzo danced to audio of herself rapping. She captioned the post: 'BLACK TRUCK A** POKING OUT THA WINDOW,' a reference to one of the lyrics in the song. It comes after the star spoke about her weight loss while on The Jason Lee Show. She did not reveal how much weight she has lost since she embarked on her weight loss journey in 2023, but did say she was bullied for her curves due to her confidence. Lizzo said: 'I think it was crazy to people because I was fat. The shocking factor was that people couldn't believe that someone that looked like me was confident.' Host Jason Lee said: 'You were cute when you were bigger,' before Lizzo fired back: 'I was fine as f***.' Pressed on how much she has lost, she said: 'If I say the number, I don't think people could do the math. 'I've seen a lot of TikToks where it's like "Lizzo talks about her 500lb weight loss". Why are y'all putting numbers on me? It kind of annoys me.' In January, the singer, who denied using Ozempic, proudly announced she had achieved her weight loss goal. At the time, she shared: 'I did it. Today, when I stepped on my scale, I reached my weight release goal. 'I haven't seen this number since 2014! Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to. Time for new goals!'
