George Lucas makes Comic-Con debut for Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
Along with Lucas, the panel included director Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, vice president of Disney's Lucasfilm, with Queen Latifah moderating at the San Diego Convention Center.
Attendees shouted "Lucas! Lucas! Lucas!" and clapped their hands in anticipation of the Star Wars creator's arrival, and gave the 81-year-old Lucas a standing ovation as he took his seat.
"Opening in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media," a press release from the museum said.
The 11-acre campus, in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, will include a green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theatres, a library, restaurant, cafe, and retail and community spaces.
Some of its collection will include art from comic book artist Jack Kirby, painter Norman Rockwell and illustrator Kadir Nelson, as well as a Lucas archive with models, props, concept art and costumes.
"I love all art, no matter what it is," Lucas said after showing a video that gave a sneak peek at the museum. The video included renderings of the museum interior and exterior, as well as the museum's broad range of art ranging from more traditional fine art and comic book strips to Star Wars sculptures and installations.
Lucas began the panel recalling his days as a college student struggling to pursue his dream of becoming an art collector due to the steep cost of fine art.
But the filmmaker found an affordable exception with comic books, sold cheaply in "underground" markets.
Now, rather than selling art he collected over around 50 years, Lucas said he prefers to create what he calls a "temple to the people's art".
Lucas kept the conversation focused on the museum and did not discuss Star Wars or Indiana Jones.
For del Toro, the museum offers a visual past that belongs to everyone and can't be erased, noting that he may move some of his personal art collection to the Lucas Museum.

Amazon overhauls Wondery podcast studio, cuts 110 jobs
is restructuring the Wondery podcast studio by shifting its award-winning narrative podcasts such as "Business Wars" to Audible and consolidating creator-led shows into a new unit, according to a memo seen by Reuters. About 110 employees will be laid off as part of the process, while many Wondery employees will transition to other parts of Amazon, the company said in an emailed statement on Monday. Wondery CEO Jen Sargent will depart the company following a transition period, the memo said. Intense competition in the expensive podcast industry as well as a growing focus on creator-led video content have prompted audio streaming companies including Spotify to diversify their podcasts as they look to lower costs and attract more users to their platforms. "As video podcasting has grown in popularity, we have learned that creator-led, video-integrated shows have different audience needs and require distinct discovery, growth and monetization strategies compared to audio-first, narrative series," Steve Boom, vice president of audio, Twitch and games at Amazon, wrote in the memo. Wondery was acquired by Amazon in 2021 and has seen podcast revenue quadruple since then as the studio expanded its slate to include video podcasts and creator-driven series, according to the memo. Under the new structure, Wondery's narrative podcast studio - home to shows such as "Dr. Death" and "American Scandal" - along with the Wondery+ subscription service, will move to Audible, the e-commerce giant's audio platform. Its creator-focused podcast team that produces shows including "Mind the Game", "New Heights", and "Armchair Expert" will join a new Creator Services group within Amazon's Talent Services division. This new team will continue to operate the creator-focused podcast studio under the Wondery brand. "By making these changes, we can better support creators in monetizing their content across multiple channels," Amazon said.

South Korean actor Song Young-kyu found dead at 55

SEOUL – South Korean actor Song Young-kyu was found dead on Aug 4 in a parked vehicle in Yongin city, Gyeonggi Province, the police said. He was 55. The authorities said there were no signs of foul play. An investigation is ongoing, with plans to question family members to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. The veteran actor, best known for his supporting role as the gruff squad chief in the box-office hit Extreme Job (2019), had been under scrutiny since late July, when it was revealed he had been arrested for drink driving on June 19. Police said Song drove about 5km in Yongin with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 per cent – above the legal threshold for licence revocation. The case had been forwarded to prosecutors and was awaiting indictment. In the wake of the incident, Song was dropped from two high-profile dramas currently in production – The Defects and The Winning Try – as well as the stage play Shakespeare In Love. Such swift removals are common in South Korea's entertainment industry, where public figures are held to strict moral standards. Following his 1994 debut, Song built a steady acting career over three decades, appearing in more than 40 television dramas and numerous films. He was known to international audiences for his roles in Netflix series Narco-Saints (2022) and Disney+ series Big Bet (2022 to 2023).
