Less than a year after their NLCS loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets look like legitimate contenders once again. A big reason for this is the performance of Pete Alonso, who has an opt-out option after this season.
During the Mets' game in Colorado on Sunday, the team made a major announcement regarding Alonso.

Now in his seventh season with the Mets, Alonso continues to prove his importance to the team. Alonso's success in New York is not just evident this year, however, as he has long been a fantastic player with the team and continues to make history, which he did on Sunday.
In the eighth inning of the Mets' game against the Rockies, Alonso hit his 243rd career home run. With this home run, the Florida native has surpassed the Mets' former long-time third baseman David Wright for the second-most home runs in franchise history. Only Darryl Strawberry (252 home runs) has more.
Before Sunday, Alonso was batting .296 at the plate with 15 home runs and 57 RBIs, which currently leads the MLB. As the Mets look to continue the season strong, they will keep relying on their long-time first baseman to continue his hot streak at the plate.

LSU baseball will see familiar foe in first game of College World Series

LSU baseball will see a familiar foe when it gets to Omaha for the College World Series. LSU's first game will be vs. SEC rival Arkansas. LSU and Arkansas both punched their tickets after completing sweeps on Sunday. Arkansas took care of business vs. Tennessee while LSU beat West Virginia. Advertisement The Tigers and Razorbacks met earlier this year in Baton Rouge, with LSU taking two of three for the series win. The Tigers won the Friday night meeting when Jared Jones scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly off the bat of Ethan Frey. LSU mercy ruled Arkansas in Game 2 before the Razorbacks got the best of LSU in Game 3. LSU and Arkansas are probably the strongest teams in the bracket, so meeting in Game 1 isn't ideal for either squad. The winner will be considered the national title favorite while the loser will have to play with its back to the wall. LSU's last trip to the College World Series came in 2023, where LSU also met an SEC foe in Game 1. The Tigers beat Tennessee to open their 2023 campaign in Omaha.
