England start Women's Six Nations title defence with bonus-point win over Italy

Yahoo23-03-2025

England started their Guinness Women's Six Nations campaign with a 38-5 bonus-point victory over Italy in York.
Red Roses head coach John Mitchell selected an experimental line-up and watched full debutant Mia Venner respond with a try after three minutes.
Emily Scarratt, Claudio MacDonald and Amy Cokayne also crossed over in a largely one-sided opening 40 minutes, but England had to wait until two minutes from time to open their account for the second half when Emma Sing added a try to her three conversions.

Gloucester-Hartpury wing Venner made the most of her first international appearance in five years with a third-minute score before her fine run helped Scarratt bundle over to make it 14-0 soon after.
An England penalty try was followed by Italy's Laura Gurioli being sent to the sin-bin and the hosts secured a bonus point ahead of the interval when MacDonald caught Holly Aitchison's kick to dot down in the corner.
Italy did get off the mark through Francesca Sgorbini, but Cokayne ensured England ended a dominant first 40 with a fifth score when she pounced on a loose ball from a line-out to cross over.

Sgorbini had a second try ruled out straight after the interval before Sadia Kabeya suffered the same fate for England, but Sing had the final say on proceedings.
Mitchell's side eventually made their territory pay as Sing belted over the line in the 78th minute before she failed to add the extras.

Bologna Could Offer Ex Inter Milan Star As Part Of Deal For Fiorentina Winger – Inter Haven't Activated Buyback

Bologna Could Offer Ex Inter Milan Star As Part Of Deal For Fiorentina Winger – Inter Haven't Activated Buyback Bologna could offer Giovanni Fabbian to Fiorentina as part of a deal for winger Riccardo Sottil, with Inter Milan not having exercised their buyback. This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Bologna are preparing for the possibility of losing winger Dan Ndoye this summer. There is a fair bit of transfer interest in the Swiss international. Particularly from Napoli. And according to the Corriere dello Sport, Bologna's top target to replace Ndoye is Fiorentina's Riccardo Sottil. Sottil is back at the Stadio Artemio Franchi after having spent the second half of last season on loan with AC Milan, Bologna Could Offer Fabbian As Part Of Deal For Sottil – Inter Haven't Used Buyback BOLOGNA, ITALY – FEBRUARY 23: Giovanni Fabbian of Bologna FC looks on during the Serie A TIM match between Bologna FC and Hellas Verona FC – Serie A TIM at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on February 23, 2024 in Bologna, Italy. (Photo by) According to the Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoblu could make a player-plus-cash offer to convince Fiorentina. They could put midfielder Giovanni Fabbian on the table. Advertisement There is one particular hitch in the idea of offering Fabbian to Fiorentina, however. That is the fact that Inter Milan still have a buyback option on the 22-year-old. Inter sold Giovanni Fabbian to Bologna in the summer of 2023. They sold him outright, rather than just loaning him out. However, the Nerazzurri did insert a buyback option in the deal. They can sign Fabbian back this summer for a fee of €12 million. Nevertheless, the Corriere report, that option expires at the end of this month. And as of yet, Inter have given no indication that they intend to activate it.
