Finance Ministry asks private banks to increase their participation in implementation of govt schemes
The direction was given by Department of Financial Services Secretary M. Nagaraju during a meeting to review the progress and performance of various financial-inclusion (FI) schemes, including the PMJDY, PMJJBY, PMSBY, APY PMMY and PM Vishwakarma, with the senior management of private sector banks.
The meeting chaired by the Secretary was also attended by the IBA CEO and senior officials of the department.
"Secretary directed private sector banks to increase their participation in implementation of govt schemes. He stressed upon fast settlement of the claims under Jansuraksha schemes, augmentation of banking infrastructure in rural areas and North-eastern region of the country," the Ministry said in a post on X.
The banks were urged to actively engage and extend support for the three-month FI-saturation campaign (from July 1 to September 30) across all gram panchayats, it added.
Key focuses include Re-KYC for the eligible savings accounts, opening PMJDY accounts and enrolments under FI schemes, the Ministry said.

1 2 Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Tuesday held its second phase of e-lottery to allocate 60 vending stalls at the newly constructed Morabadi vendor market, situated near the electricity office. Out of 235 applicants, 60 have been selected in the second phase, based on their Aadhaar card, survey receipts, and PM SVANidhi ID to claim their stalls. This facility, built at a cost of Rs 1.36 crore, is part of RMC's broader effort to decongest footpaths and organise street vending. The market accommodates up to 213–218 vendors and features segregated zones for food, vegetables, fruits, and other goods, along with weather-protective sheds, LED lighting, drinking water, toilets, parking, drainage, and a system of guards and caretakers to maintain hygiene and order. "The transparent e-lottery ensures fairness in allotment. This market demonstrates our commitment to supporting livelihoods while improving hygiene and traffic flow," said deputy municipal commissioner Gautam Prasad Sahu. "For years, I sold vegetables by the roadside in the sun and rain. Now, with a covered stall, I can work without worrying about the weather," said Rekha Devi, a vegetable seller from Morabadi. Others saw it as a chance to improve earnings. "When customers don't have to fight traffic to reach us, business will naturally grow," said Mohd. Salim, a fruit vendor. Some vendors, however, voiced concerns about adapting to the new system. "We welcome the facility, but hope RMC also ensures proper maintenance and cleanliness, otherwise it will end up like any other crowded market," said Rajesh Prasad, another fruit seller. RMC secured structured vending under a single roof, replacing roadside chaos with organized spaces.
