Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato discusses renovations to The Met ahead of SEC Baseball Tournament

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato joined CBS 42 Morning News Monday to discuss the upcoming SEC Baseball Tournament.
Brocato discussed the $23 million renovation, three-year renovation to the Hoover Met. Some of those renovations included changing the locker rooms for the athletes, new entrances, parking lot renovations, chair-back seating, and more. The Hoover Met will host the SEC Tournament through at least 2028.
The tournament begins Tuesday, May 20.

Tennessee women's basketball will play at UT Martin on Nov. 9 in the Pat Summitt Heritage Classic at Kathleen and Tom Elam Center in Martin, Tennessee. The game will honor Summitt who served as the Lady Vols' head coach and played for UT Martin. Tickets for the in-state matchup are now available through UT Martin's athletic ticket office, ranging from $25-$60. Premium ticket packages are also available for $200. Children under five will be admitted free, but must sit in a parent's lap. Tickets for the game are not part of the Skyhawks' season ticket package and anyone sitting in a seat must have a ticket, regardless of age. The Lady Vols lead the all-time basketball series versus UT Martin, 15-2. The contest will also mark the fourth time Tennessee will play at Martin, including the first time since 1997. The teams last played on Nov. 7, 2024, with the Lady Vols winning, 90-50, at Food City Arena. Summitt won eight national championships, 16 Southeastern Conference regular-season titles, 16 SEC Tournament championships, while advancing to the NCAA Tournament Final Four 18 times at Tennessee. LSU women's basketball released its schedule for the 2025-26 season. The Tigers run back a starting lineup with returning guards Flau'Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams and expect to make another NCAA Tournament run. Head coach Kim Mulkey's staff added key transfer portal forwards, led by Notre Dame transfer Kate Koval, along with signing the nation's top recruiting class. The group now knows who they'll be facing off against and the locations. LSU begins the year with two exhibition games against Mississippi College and Langston inside the PMAC before the season opener against Houston Christian on November 4. The Tigers welcome in-state rival Southeastern Louisiana two days later. On November 17, the Tigers hit the road for the first time, heading to New Orleans to face Tulane. Eleven days later, they travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam, where they will face Marist, followed by either Miami-Ohio or Washington State. LSU heads to Durham to face Duke on December 4 as part of the ACC/SEC challenge, then continues its road trip against New Orleans three days later. It opens SEC play against Kentucky on January 1, then travels to Vanderbilt and Georgia, who beat the Tigers to close out the regular season last year Texas is the lone opponent on the 16-game SEC schedule that LSU faces twice. The first matchup will be in the PMAC and will mark the most difficult opponent to date. It will be the first time the two teams face off in Baton Rouge since the Longhorns joined the conference. They beat LSU in both contests last year. Alabama comes to the PMAC on February 1, but the Crimson Tide will have a new look after multiple key contributors departed from the team that took LSU to overtime last year. Following that contest is the second game against Texas, this one in Austin. Mulkey comes face to face with South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley inside the PMAC when the Gamecocks come to town on February 14. It will be LSU transfer MiLaysia Fulwiley's first game against her former team. She scored eight points in South Carolina's 66-56 victory. Tennessee heads to Baton Rouge on February 26 in its second year under head coach Kim Caldwell. After closing out the season at Mississippi State, LSU starts its bid for an SEC Tournament title. The postseason begins March 4 then the NCAA Tournament commences March 18.

Hunter Ensley scheduled to make professional baseball debut

Hunter Ensley concluded his collegiate career with Tennessee baseball in June. The former Vol is scheduled to make his professional debut Wednesday with the Quad Cities River Bandits. Quad Cities competes in the Midwest League and is a High-A affiliate of the Royals. 'Former Vol baseball outfielder Hunter Ensley has been added to our roster and is scheduled to make his pro debut tonight,' Quad Cities announced. The River Bandits will host Beloit at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa. Ensley signed with Kansas City after not being selected in the 2025 MLB draft. He played for the Vols from 2021-25 and appeared in 205 games, including 174 starts. The right-handed outfielder recorded a .303 batting average, 202 hits, 41 doubles, 29 home runs, 141 RBIs, 133 runs, 85 walks, 17 stolen bases, a .992 fielding percentage and was hit by 26 pitches at Tennessee. Ensley won a 2024 national championship, two SEC Tournament titles (2022, 2024), two SEC regular-season championships (2022, 2024) and three College World Series appearances (2021, 2023-24) during his career with the Vols.
