The Brief
Coweta County deputies are searching for the driver of a semi-truck who hit a motorist's car on Interstate-85 and knocked the vehicle off the road.
The accident was captured on driver Bill Eidson's dash camera, which shows the collision and his car skidding off the highway onto the shoulder.
Eidson was unhurt, but his car was totaled.
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - Deputies are investigating a hit-and-run accident that knocked a driver's car off the interstate.
They say a truck driver fled that scene without helping or even calling 911.
What we know
Bill Eidson was heading home to Hogansville from Atlanta. He'd been at a corporate function when a semi-truck came up from behind and hit his car so hard that it sent him skidding off the highway. But that trucker kept going.
It was all captured on Eidson's dash cam in his car. The sound is Eidson's radio playing music and then a loud crunch and the squealing of his tires as his car careens off the roadway. The video shows the complete sequence of events.
"It was scary," he said. "At first I thought I had had a blowout because all I heard was a boom and a big crash." He says he didn't know until later that something had hit him and it was all recorded on his dash camera.
Eidson says his car, a 2017 Ford Fusion, is totaled. He was unhurt.
It happened on May 21, at around 9:15 p.m. Edison was traveling near the Collingsworth Road exit on Interstate 85.
An enhanced view of the rear-facing camera saw the cab of the truck, and it appeared there was no trailer. The blinker is on, suggesting the truck was changing lanes and the driver might not have seen Eidson's car.
Coweta County sheriff's deputies are working to identify the truck and driver. But they need the public's help. Despite the fact the accident was caught on camera, no view provides enough clarity to see identifying marks.
Luck was with Eidson though. He says he travels that road every day for work and the Georgia Department of Transportation had recently cleared trees on the I-85 shoulder at that exit. He might have gone head-on into a tree otherwise.
What they're saying
And what about those dash cameras? Eidson says it's worth it.
"The dash cam immediately notified my wife that I had been in a wreck and sent her a text message with the location as well as a link to the live feed," he said. "So yes, you should get a dash cam."
What you can do
If you have information that can help deputies identify the driver or that truck, call the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

MPD: Mom goes live on Facebook during shootout with toddler in car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis mom was charged with child endangerment after she was involved in a rolling shootout last month in Frayser with a toddler in the backseat of her car. Lashon James, 47, is also charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle. On May 18, officers responded to a shooting outside the Corning Village Apartments. Witnesses said they saw two males standing across the street from the apartment complex exchange gunfire with someone in a white Ford Fusion. According to police, surveillance video showed the Ford Fusion exit the Corning Village Apartments before the shots were fired. Investigators said they were able to link James to the white Ford Fusion and watched a Facebook Live that showed her in the car with her two-year-old daughter while she was shooting a gun and shots were being fired back at her. Police said the child's father also positively identified James as the person who had his daughter in a vehicle with her during the shooting. She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Orbeez gun leads to aggravated assault arrest in Siloam Springs

Siloam Springs, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Gentry man was arrested on May 31 after allegedly pointing a toy gun at a woman in Siloam Springs, according to court documents. Donnovan Hayes, 18, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault. No formal charges have been filed as of June 5. According to a probable cause affidavit, police responded around 4:31 p.m. to a report of an individual with a gun in Siloam Springs. Officers found gray Ford Fusion matching the suspect vehicle description at the scene. After being briefly held at gunpoint, all three occupants in the Ford were detained without incident. A white object resembling a firearm, later identified as an Orbeez gun, fell from the vehicle as one person exited, according to the affidavit. An alleged victim, parked nearby, told police the front passenger, Hayes, pointed what appeared to be a gun at them, leaving her and her children frightened. According to the affidavit, that Hayes denied pointing the gun at the victim. Arkansas Hooters location among dozens closed following bankruptcy filing Hayes told officers he was participating in a game involving Orbeez guns, plastic toy guns that shoot soft gel pellets, with about 30 others in the Northwest Arkansas area. Players reportedly used the Life360 app to track each other during the game. The affidavit states Hayes claimed he intended to shoot another participant in the game, not Berry, and said the game included rules prohibiting players from shooting people who are not involved. The two other occupants in the Ford were released, and Hayes was taken to the Benton County Jail. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
