Gap between CMO & people bridged: Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi asserted that 'not a single allegation of corruption' has surfaced against his government so far, as the BJP dispensation in the State completes its first year on June 12. Majhi said the administration has also earned the title of 'people's government' over the last one year due to its strong connect with the masses.
'I would like to proudly say that not a single allegation of corruption has been made by Opposition parties during the year. For this, I thank all my ministerial colleagues,' he said in his first joint address to BJP MPs, MLAs and Speaker Surama Padhy here on Sunday evening. 'Our government is now known as the 'people's government' because we have completely bridged the gap between the 'third floor' (Chief Minister's Office) and the people,' Majhi said.
The Chief Minister also credited the public hearing programmes conducted by his government for its bond with the people.
'In the last one year, I myself met 12,000 people through 11 public hearing programmes, listened to their problems and resolved most of those on the spot,' he said.
'I have also visited all the 30 districts, participated in various programmes with the people and shared their joys and sorrows. In the second year of my government, I plan to visit all 147 Assembly constituencies,' Majhi said.
Noting that rooting out corruption is critical for the successful implementation of welfare schemes, the Chief Minister said starting from the lowest level, 'everyone is under the radar of the government'. Majhi also referred to the recent arrest of a senior engineer over corruption charges on the last day of his service, and asserted that 'we will not allow the corrupt to retire with dignity'.
'We have laid a strong foundation for 'Prosperous Odisha 2036'. We aim to take the economy of Odisha to USD 500 billion by 2036 and USD 1.5 trillion by 2047. The road ahead is long, and it will certainly pose many challenges for us,' he said.

Revanth meets Rahul, Kharge in Delhi as AICC weighs portfolio reshuffle, cabinet strategy
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy met with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi to discuss the allocation of portfolios to the three newly-inducted ministers and the possibility of a wider cabinet reshuffle. The Congress high command is said to have firmly advised Revanth to ensure social justice remains the guiding principle in the reallocation of portfolios—a directive with both symbolic and political resonance. Significantly, soon after the meeting, the AICC summoned senior minister and party heavyweight N Uttam Kumar Reddy to the national capital, fuelling speculation about a deeper shake-up within the cabinet. While there has been no official word on whether the leadership is contemplating dropping any ministers, the move has revived buzz in party circles about possible exits or marginalisation of underperforming incumbents. Uttam was accompanied by his wife and Kodad MLA N Padmavathi Reddy, whose name is reportedly under consideration either for inclusion in a future cabinet expansion or as one of the four working presidents of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo This development is being seen as part of a larger balancing act within the party, aimed at accommodating key social and regional stakeholders ahead of local body elections. Bhatti also set to be called Though deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka was not present in Delhi, sources confirmed that a senior AICC leader held telephonic discussions with him following Revanth's meeting with the top leadership. There are strong indications that Bhatti too may be called to Delhi for further consultations, although his office did not confirm any such move as of late Tuesday night. "The high command has wrapped up discussions with the Karnataka leadership, where a decision was taken to conduct another caste census. The focus now shifts to Telangana," a senior AICC functionary said. "The leadership is set to deliberate not only on the portfolios for the new ministers but also the political ramifications of a larger reshuffle. Consultations with Revanth, Uttam, and most likely Bhatti will continue into the night or take place on Wednesday. The announcement of new portfolios is expected on Wednesday or Thursday," the source added. 4 working presidents Revanth's meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Kharge lasted over two hours and went beyond cabinet matters. The discussion also covered the pending appointments of four TPCC working presidents, district and block-level Congress presidents, the campaign committee, and the AICC programme implementation committee chairperson. The strategy for upcoming local body elections and plans to target the BJP-led Centre's '11 years of failure' were also prominently discussed. Sources said that AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal had submitted a detailed chart of portfolios currently held by Revanth, Bhatti, Uttam, and other ministers to Rahul Gandhi and Kharge. Also tabled was a performance report prepared by AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, which included candid feedback from party MLAs and senior leaders—reportedly touching on both strengths and lapses in the current cabinet. Revanth also extended formal invitations to Rahul Gandhi and Kharge to address public meetings in Telangana highlighting the successful completion of the state's caste survey, the passage of the 42% BC quota legislation, and the party's commitment to SC categorisation. Dates are being finalised in coordination with the central leadership, around which the TPCC will organise major rallies. Vivek meets Kharge, CM Meanwhile, newly-inducted minister G Vivek Venkatswamy also met Kharge on Monday and Revanth on Tuesday. While Vivek maintained publicly that he would work diligently with whichever portfolio he is given, sources indicate he is lobbying for the energy or education portfolio. He was reportedly advised by the leadership to concentrate on strengthening the party in the run-up to the local polls and to aggressively campaign against the BJP's record at the Centre.

Assets of state political party chiefs should be probed: Jakhar
Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday demanded 'income trail test' of state presidents of all political parties, to ascertain the illegal wealth of mainstream leaders. Replying to a question over Punjab finance minister Harpal Cheema's statement seeking dope tests of all political leaders, Jhakhar said their assets should be probed as well. 'There are state presidents who had mud houses till a few years ago but are now roaming in (Land Rover) Defender cars worth 2.5 crore. What formula they have used to accumulate such wealth and properties, people must know. The income tax (department) can start the probe from me,' said Jakhar. He was addressing a press conference regarding the completion of 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre. Jakhar also took potshots at Congress leaders, who he said recently constructed farmhouses in Siswan area in New Chandigarh. 'You will be surprised to know that Captain Amarinder Singh has built a farmhouse in just four acres but some of our old friends from the Congress have built farmhouses across 10 acres. More surprising is that they have spent huge money on boundary walls, which are of more height than any central jail,' the BJP leader said. Taking jibe at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over 'Yudh Nashian Virudh', the state BJP chief said this drive is a 'sham' as only small consumers were being put behind bars. Jakhar gave out data about such campaigns run in the previous Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP state governments to show how they resulted in significant arrests but failed eventually. Jakhar said that the BJP, under PM Modi, has ushered the country in a period of unprecedented growth for the country. 'India has become the fourth largest economy in the world. This is no coincidence but commitment to work on policies and principles,' said Jakhar.

South India is country's growth engine, says Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan
Hyderabad: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday hailed South India as the growth engine of the country, citing its deep knowledge base, historical strengths, and the relentless hard work of its people. Addressing the media at the BJP state office, he said, "The South is an ideal for the rest of the country. It is ahead in many areas, and its progress is a matter of national pride." Highlighting the South's economic and intellectual contributions, Pradhan said the five southern states are at the forefront of the country's transition to a knowledge-based economy, especially through the rise of global capability centres (GCCs). "Andhra Pradesh has envisioned a quantum valley. Bengaluru is the heart of startup India. Hyderabad is rapidly emerging as a tech hub. Tamil Nadu leads in manufacturing, and Kerala boasts maritime strength," he said. "Southern India is entrepreneurial, knowledgeable, and will continue to lead India's development journey," he said. When questioned about concerns over delimitation potentially reducing constituencies in the South, Pradhan clarified that no formula has been finalised. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like गुड़गांव में बिक्री के लिए 3बीएचके फ्लैट (कीमतें जांचें) 3BHK Flat For Sale | Search Ads और जानें Undo "There's no benchmark yet. The census and caste census will take place first. Meanwhile, the women's reservation bill will be implemented," he said. Responding indirectly to Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin's recent remarks, he said, "Some leaders seem to want to stir up a pseudo war. But home minister Amit Shah has made it clear—no state will lose its rights." Education reforms Pradhan also praised the South for its leadership in education. "Southern states are taking bold steps. Sammakka Sarakka Tribal University has begun operations. IITs in Tirupati and Palakkad are progressing well. Liverpool University will soon open in Bengaluru. South India, along with Maharashtra and Gujarat, stands tall in education and innovation." He emphasised the need to open up higher education to foreign universities and increase institutional autonomy. "By 2035, we aim to raise the gross enrolment ratio from 27% to 50%. That means more universities, and not just from the government. Already, 75% of students in government institutions are on free seats. Those who can afford it are choosing private options, but we must expand capacity," he added. Speaking on the performance of the Modi govt, Pradhan said, "India has come a long way—from being one of the 'fragile five' economies to ranking among the world's top four. This was made possible through good governance and the people's support. There's more to achieve, and we're committed to delivering it."
