Prabhas's Raja Saab makers say they shot for 16-18 hours amid 8-hour shift debate

India Today16-06-2025
At the teaser launch of Prabhas's upcoming film 'The Raja Saab', the producers weighed in on the ongoing debate around the proposed eight-hour work shift in the industry. They revealed that they had been working 16 to 18 hours a day to achieve the desired outcome. The teaser was officially unveiled on June 16.'The Raja Saab's' team worked round the clock to get the film ready for its December 5 release. At the teaser release of the Maruthi-directed horror-comedy in Hyderabad on Monday, the makers discussed the long schedule of the film and also addressed India Today's question around film crews toiling extremely long hours.advertisementThe producer, TG Vishwa Prasad, opened up about the challenges of shooting a big-budget film, to which he replied, 'It's already public how the film took two and a half years. The first difficult thing that we executed was that we had our big schedule post Kalki starting by end of July-mid August to all the way to end of December. I don't know how Maruthi managed. He started at 6 am and ends at 11 am and continued this for more than 120 days.'
He went on to add that it's a grand film with a high-on-drama 40-minute climax. TG Vishwa Prasad also revealed that it took around 300 days to achieve the VFX and how 'The Raja Saab' has the largest indoor set in the world.Watch the video here: advertisementTaking on from his revelation, India Today asked director Maruthi about working long hours on this film and whether the film industry can afford shifts. The director clarified that while his actors worked only around 8 hours, he and his crew worked double shifts to pull the film off.He explained, 'What happens, they (actors) will work an 8-hour shift. I will keep some actors on one side (shift) and then [shoot with] some actors. But we (the crew) will work 18 hours a day: from morning, 6 am to 10 pm, we used to work definitely. That is why this much quality and content we could shoot.'Here's the clip: Pointing towards his director of photography and production designer, he added how the entire team worked really hard and once audiences see the film, they will realise how much effort it took.Meanwhile, according to recent reports, Deepika Padukone asked for a strict eight-hour work shift to sign Prabhas-led 'Spirit', but director Sandeep Reddy Vanga refused to oblige. While the deal between them fell flat, it definitely sparked industry-wide debate: the need to have work shifts and whether it is even feasible for a creative industry to have strict schedules.'The Raja Saab' also stars Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malvika Mohanan and Nidhhi Agerwal.

Prithviraj on Ibrahim Ali Khan facing flak: Even SRK gets criticised

Prithviraj Sukumaran has high praise for co-star Ibrahim Ali Khan, who stars alongside him in the upcoming film 'Sarzameen'. Speaking exclusively to India Today, the actor called Ibrahim 'one of the most well-prepared debutants' he has ever worked with, while also offering a grounded perspective on the criticism the young actor has faced."Full credit to [director] Kayoze Irani for that because I think Ibrahim is easily one of the most well-prepared debutants that I've worked with," Prithviraj told India Today. "Because day one, when we were shooting a scene, I realised that the boy already has a very clear idea about the entire arc of the character. And then I spoke to Kayoze and I realised that they worked on this for a year plus."advertisementHe continued, 'There wasn't a single moment during the entire shooting of the film where Iggy as an actor was not sure of what he should do. Yes, there are points where we have improvised where like any actor- it happens to me now, I'm sure it happens to Kajol—where we are suddenly lost, and we think, 'Okay, this is not how I thought this would span out. So now I'm in a place where I did not think I would be. How do I tackle this?' That's happened to Iggy too. That's happened to me during this film." Prithviraj emphasised the importance of approaching co-actors as equals, regardless of experience. 'What is important regarding your conversation with your fellow actor is not that you make sure it's not a conversation between a seasoned actor and a debutant. It's just a conversation between two actors trying to be two different characters in the film. And I think Ibrahim learned that very soon. When you're talking to your co-actor about a scene, it does not matter how experienced or not experienced he or she is. What only matters is, how does he or she perceive the character? How do I perceive the character? How do both of us perceive this particular moment and how can we collaborate on this?' According to Prithviraj, Ibrahim was 'already well-trained to comprehend that process and how to adopt that process for his own good.' He added, 'I really think Ibrahim has put in a lot of work for this film. It's really a lot of work from him. And as people already know, the camera really loves him. He is a very, very good-looking boy.'Calling 'Sarzameen' a 'very interesting debut' for Ibrahim, Prithviraj said, 'This is his first film, actually the first film he acted in. I kept telling him, and I told this to Saif sir also, when I met him that this is actually a very, very interesting debut for an actor to make, because it's not what you would think is a given debut for an actor like Ibrahim. So yes, I'm looking forward to what people think of him in the film.'Addressing the criticism Ibrahim has faced with 'Nadaaniyan', Prithviraj offered a candid reality check: "See, Ibrahim will be wonderful in this film, but that's not going to put an end to anything. Hello, if Shah Rukh Khan sir can still be criticised, why can't Ibrahim Ali Khan be criticised? Come on. From where I come from, Mohanlal sir and Mammootty sir are still criticised. There's nothing bigger than that for us to understand that that's never going to end.'advertisementHe added, 'You have to just keep trying. I've totally realised that it never gets easier. You think, 'Oh, that one blockbuster,' and then it gets easier? No. It does not. It never gets easier. The idea is that you start really enjoying the grind.''Sarzameen' premieres on JioHotstar on July 25, 2025, and marks Ibrahim Ali Khan's second film. He stars alongside Prithviraj and Kajol.- EndsYou May Also Like

Kartik Aaryan's untitled film delayed due to Saiyaara's massive success? Anurag Basu reacts

All eyes are on Kartik Aaryan and Anurag Basu' s upcoming film ever since the duo started shooting for it. The film, which also stars Sreeleela as the leading lady, was initially slated for a Diwali release. However, the latest buzz is that the film will not be released until 2026, reportedly due to Saiyaara's massive box office success. The filmmaker has now broken silence on the same and revealed the real reason behind the delay. Is Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela's film delayed? Anurag Basu, while talking to India Today, did not confirm the reports about the film's delay. But he indirectly hinted at it by giving several reasons for it. Earlier, it was claimed that certain themes and elements in the Kartik Aaryan starrer were similar to those of Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday's Saiyaara. Both stories centered on rising music stars and their romantic relationships. As the audience is gushing over the recently released Mohit Suri directorial, reports suggested that Basu and his team wanted to avoid any direct comparison with the already released movie. Because of this, some portions had to be rewritten; hence, they decided to push the release date. But the Jagga Jasoos director revealed the real reason behind the delay. Anurag Basu claimed that Kartik Aaryan was busy with Karan Johar's Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri, while he was occupied with the release of Metro In Dinon. "We'll soon move on to our next schedule and aim to wrap the film soon," he added. Is there similarity in Saiyaara's storyline with Kartik Aaryan's film? Anurag also revealed that he has been aware of Mohit Suri's script for a long time, and the story was no surprise to him. "Given that both films feature performers as central characters, we knew comparisons would be drawn. But the two films are completely different from each other," he concluded. Just a couple of days ago, Pinkvilla had exclusively reported that the makers of Son of Sardaar 2 also have decided to push their release date by a week. The reason was purely business-based, to ensure that both films flourish and rule the box office. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more such updates.

Box Office: Saiyaara goes MENTAL on Monday; Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer has a shot at Rs 18 crore on day 4

The Ahaan Panday, and Aneet Padda-led Saiyaara has gone mental at the box office on Monday, as the film is looking to score historic numbers on the fourth day. The Mohit Suri directorial is not looking to slow down any time soon, as very early trends are suggesting first Monday business in the range of Rs 18.00 crore to Rs 20.00 crore, and this can go higher too as the momentum of the film is at different level altogether. The hold is coming despite a 20 percent drop in ticket prices, and the footfalls of Monday will be much higher than Friday, which speaks volumes about the levels of business it is doing. The film is looking to score one of the biggest non-holiday Monday of all time, and to think of a newcomer film doing it is incredible. While the collections of Saiyaara on Monday could be similar to Friday, the footfalls will be competing with Saturday, as there is a surge in admits due to reduced rates The first Monday of Saiyaara would be the biggest of all time for a non-star-cast film and certainly deserves a distinct place in the history books. The fourth day collections of Saiyaara will be higher than the fourth day of Kabir Singh, which scored Rs 17.50 crore on Monday. Following this trend, Saiyaara has a shot at entering the Rs 300 crore club, or who knows even the Rs 400 crore club too. Most films performing at high levels opt out of the discounted Tuesday offer, but YRF has gone ahead with the same for the fifth day with an intent to get more admits. The release strategy of Saiyaara is one of the best in the last few years, as neither did YRF go over the board with release size nor did they get greedy to opt for the blockbuster pricing slab. Saiyaara is headed to emerge as a historic blockbuster, and certainly find a place in the top 5 launches of all time in the history of Indian Cinema. The four day total of Saiyaara will stand around the Rs 104 crore mark, Here's a look at Saiyaara Box Office collection: Friday: Rs 21.25 crore Saturday: Rs 25.75 crore Sunday: Rs 35.00 crore Monday: Rs 19.00 crore (Expected) Total: Rs 101.00 crore Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates Note: These are estimates based on very early trends and the actuals could vary depending on the actuals in evening.
