Time of Indiaa day ago
Nashik: Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje recently met with Union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu to push for significant developments at Nashik airport ahead of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2026-2028.
Waje submitted a memorandum requesting an immigration checkpoint and a major airport expansion to handle the expected influx of devotees. The proposed expansion includes constructing a new terminal building with seating for 1,000 passengers, developing new taxiways, and increasing the number of aircraft parking bays.
Waje also called for the construction of separate helipads at the airport, in Nashik city, and in Trimbakeshwar to manage the massive crowd.
Naidu has assured Waje that he would look into these requests.
Additionally, Waje proposed that the airport be named after Yashwantrao Chavan, Maharashtra's first chief minister who was instrumental in bringing the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) unit to Nashik. Currently, the Nashik-Delhi flight has been reduced from daily to four days a week. This service should be made daily again. Waje also requested a slot at Delhi airport for the second Nashik-Delhi flight at night.

The MP also called for expanded air connectivity to Nashik airport, specifically requesting new routes to major cities like Kolkata, Varanasi, and Chennai. All these demands come ahead of the upcoming Kumbh Mela, where the airport expects a significant increase in passenger traffic.
The airport, a joint venture between the state government and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), was developed between 2013 and 2014 at a cost of Rs 94 crore. The current terminal can only accommodate 300 passengers at a time.
With the footfall expected to reach 1,000 passengers per hour during the Kumbh Mela, HAL has submitted a proposal to state govt for a much-needed upgrade. However, a decision on the development plan is still pending.

Janmashtami to be celebrated at every police station: Yogi

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said Janmashtami would be celebrated at every police station and police training institute in the state on Aug 16. "The occasion would provide trainees with an opportunity to showcase their cultural and artistic talents, making the festival a symbol of cultural unity," Yogi made this announcement during his visit to Moradabad where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 87 development projects worth Rs 1,172 crore. Accusing the Samajwadi Party of having tried to restrict Janmashtami celebrations when it was in power, Yogi said his govt would ensure grand celebrations across the state. Referring to the result of the Kundarki bypoll held in Nov 2024, where BJP trumped the SP candidate in a Muslim majority area, the CM called it Moradabad's rejection of SP's and Congress' divisive politics. "The public chose satisfaction over appeasement, leading to the forfeiture of SP-Congress deposits," he said. Highlighting the global recognition which Moradabad's handicraft are getting, the CM said "It was the commitment of BJP's double-engine government to elevate the city and its products on the world stage. Once known for chaos and hooliganism, Moradabad is now renowned for its excellent handicrafts and brass items under the ODOP scheme, exporting products worth Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 crore." He added that Moradabad's artists, including one who received a Padma award, are working tirelessly to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a self-reliant India. New bar policy gets AP cabinet nod, allotment through draw of lots

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday approved the new bar policy for three years (2025-28). The govt has fixed the licence fee by dividing the bars into three categories based on the population of the area. Like in retail liquor outlets, the govt has reserved 10% of bar licences for toddy tapers at 50% of the licence fee. The allotment of licence would be done through draw of lots. Anyone can apply for a bar licence by paying the application fee. A minimum of four applications is required for conducting the lottery for a particular area. Announcing the decision, I&PR minister Kolusu Pardasarathi said the new policy was finalised after studying bar policies in neighbouring states. Pardasarathi observed that more than 50% of bars are struggling to stay afloat in the existing policy, which prompted the govt to introduce the new policy. "The 840 existing licences will be renewed according to the new policy. Business hours for the bars have been fixed from 10 am to 11 pm. The existing bar policy will expire on Aug 31, and the new policy will come into effect from Sep 1. The application process and allotment of licences will be completed before Aug 31," he said. The minister further noted that during the YSRCP regime, there was huge difference between the bid prices, leading to cartelisation. "Allotment of licences will be done through a transparent process as the licence fee is fixed for the bars in all three categories," he added. While the licence fee for bars in cities up to 50,000 population has been fixed at Rs 35 lakh per annum, Rs 50 lakh will be charged for bars in cities with population between 50,000 and 5 lakh. The annual licence fee for bars located in cities with more than 5 lakh population has been fixed at Rs 75 lakh. The fee to apply for the bar licence will be Rs 5 lakh. Unlike in the existing system, licence fee can be paid in six equal instalments and submission of bank guarantee equivalent to one instalment. The liquor off take price for bars is fixed on par with retail shops. The cabinet also approved the proposal of granting licences to permit rooms in retail outlets. The licence fee for the permit room has been fixed at Rs 5 lakh per annum. The decision was taken after 2.71 lakh cases of drinking in public places was reported in last one year. This is to ensure that no public inconvenience is caused and also to encourage responsible drinking," Pardasarathi said.
