Mirchi Hotel Chowk to be named Kothule-Patil Chowk
Nashik: Mirchi Hotel Chowk on Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar state highway in the city is set to be renamed as Kothule-Patil Chowk, following approval from NMC's general body. The decision comes approximately two and a half years after a fatal accident on Oct 8, 2022, which claimed 13 lives. A Mumbai-bound private tourist bus had collided with a truck at the intersection near the chowk. The bus caught fire, leading to the deaths. Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje had requested NMC to rename the chowk. Accordingly, NMC's public works department tabled the proposal at the general body meeting on Tuesday. Civic chief Manisha Khatri approved the proposal. Waje said the farmland in and around the chowk was owned by the Kothule-Patil families. Hence, there was a name-change demand from local residents. After the incident at the Mirchi Hotel Chowk in Oct 2022, NMC conducted a special drive for removing encroachment along the chowk on the state highway. Thereafter, the NMC administration also conducted a survey across the city and found around 22 black spots of accidents across the city. NMC also conducted the survey and suggested measures to prevent accidents at the black spots.

MP Waje seeks immigration checkpoint at Nashik airport
Nashik: Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje recently met with Union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu to push for significant developments at Nashik airport ahead of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2026-2028. Waje submitted a memorandum requesting an immigration checkpoint and a major airport expansion to handle the expected influx of devotees. The proposed expansion includes constructing a new terminal building with seating for 1,000 passengers, developing new taxiways, and increasing the number of aircraft parking bays. Waje also called for the construction of separate helipads at the airport, in Nashik city, and in Trimbakeshwar to manage the massive crowd. Naidu has assured Waje that he would look into these requests. Additionally, Waje proposed that the airport be named after Yashwantrao Chavan, Maharashtra's first chief minister who was instrumental in bringing the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) unit to Nashik. Currently, the Nashik-Delhi flight has been reduced from daily to four days a week. This service should be made daily again. Waje also requested a slot at Delhi airport for the second Nashik-Delhi flight at night. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? All these demands come ahead of the upcoming Kumbh Mela, where the airport expects a significant increase in passenger traffic. The airport, a joint venture between the state government and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), was developed between 2013 and 2014 at a cost of Rs 94 crore. The current terminal can only accommodate 300 passengers at a time. With the footfall expected to reach 1,000 passengers per hour during the Kumbh Mela, HAL has submitted a proposal to state govt for a much-needed upgrade. However, a decision on the development plan is still pending.

MP Waje seeks higher reimbursement rate, transport subsidy to increase onion export
Nashik: MP Rajabhau Waje has written to Union minister of agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan seeking his intervention to increase the rate of remission of duties and taxes on exported products (RoDTEP) up to 5%. He also requested a transport subsidy of 7% on cost of freight for onion export to boost export of produce and stabilise the wholesale onion prices in mandis in the interest of farmers. Moreover, Waje has urged him to make efforts to provide transport subsidy of 7% on the total cost of freight for onion export. Presently, RoDTEP rates are only 1.99 percent. His demands come in the wake of drop in wholesale onion prices due to a rise in supply compared to demand. Presently, average wholesale onion prices have dropped to Rs 1,280 per quintal. As a result, farmers are incurring heavy financial losses as they are not even able to recover their production costs. Waje said that the early arrival of the fresh crop has started in some onion-growing states, which is expected to lead to significant arrivals of fresh onion produce in the local markets. While a good harvest is generally welcome, the concurrent and substantial increase in supply, without adequate demand support, is highly likely to result in a sharp crash in onion prices. Such a price collapse would inevitably lead to heavy financial losses for our onion farmers, who have invested considerable resources and effort, stated Waje. Furthermore, it would also severely impact onion traders, disrupting the entire supply chain. In this context, export markets play a pivotal role in absorbing excess supply and stabilising domestic prices. To incentivise and boost onion exports effectively, there is a need to increase the RoDTEP rate and also give a transport subsidy of 7% on the cost of freight for onion export, said Waje.

Nashik airport lacks adequate immigration clearance area delaying approval for international flights
Nashik: Approval to set up an immigration checkpoint at the Nashik airport has been delayed by govt due to inadequate area for immigration clearance, preventing the operation of full international scheduled passenger flights. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a written reply to Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje's question on whether govt had granted approval to set up the immigration checkpoint at the Nashik airport following inspections by the Bureau of Immigration (BOI), Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Union minister of state for home affairs, said no permission has been granted to establish an immigration checkpoint at the airport. The minister said after assessing the infrastructure requirements, the BOI recommended that the area available for immigration clearance at the Nashik (Ozar) airport is not sufficient to operate full international scheduled passenger flights. "It is adequate to house operating crew and passengers of cargo/chartered flights only. The required infrastructure and immigration systems are in place to cater to domestic and international cargo routes through Indian flight operators, and the necessary training for conducting immigration checks has been imparted by BOI to the police personnel who are already attached to the Nashik (Ozar) airport," Bandi Sanjay Kumar added in the written reply. The Nashik airport is managed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), the defence PSU. HAL has already developed the infrastructure required for immigration checkpoints at Nashik airport. Manish Rawal, the vice-president of Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (Nima), said they have been pursuing with state govt to construct a new terminal building at the Nashik airport given the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "If the new terminal building is constructed, the issues related to areas required for immigration clearance will get sorted out. Therefore, state govt needs to take up expansion of the Nashik airport," Rawal said. The Nashik airport was developed jointly by state govt and HAL at a total cost of Rs 94 crore in 2013 and 2014. State govt spent Rs 84 crore, while HAL spent Rs 10 crore and provided its land for the construction of the airport. State govt has leased the Nashik airport terminal building to HAL for 30 years at a lease rate of Rs 1,000 per month. The seating capacity of the Nashik airport is only 300 passengers at a time. During the Kumbh Mela, passenger footfall per hour is expected to reach 1,000 at the facility. Consequently, HAL submitted a proposal to state govt to develop the Nashik airport in anticipation of the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
