How Liam Payne's Girlfriend Kate Cassidy Learned About His Death
's girlfriend is reflecting on a terrible moment in her life.
Speaking out in her first interview since his death, Kate—who started dating the alum in 2022—shared that she learned of his tragic passing in October after receiving a phone call from a friend.
'I feel blessed I didn't find out over social media because I just couldn't even imagine that,' Kate told The Sun in an interview published Feb. 5. 'I was in our home with our dog, scrolling TikTok and one of Liam's friends called me.'
Upon learning of his fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, the 25-year-old—who had been vacationing with the singer days earlier—was in disbelief.
'That moment, it's like blank; it's blacked out in my head,' Kate shared. 'I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumor. Or something that somebody made up just to get views.'

But as the reality of the situation set in, the influencer's demeanor changed.
'Instantly I just had a bad feeling in my gut,' she continued. 'When I officially found the news out to be true, I felt numb. I tried to call him. I called pretty much everybody.'
And although she had left Argentina early to reunite with the couple's dog Nala, Kate struggled to find peace in the comforts of home as she grappled with the loss.
'I remember pacing around the house,' she recalled. 'Poor Nala thought I was trying to play, she kept jumping up at me. I didn't sleep at all that night.'
Along with the interview, Kate shared a message to Liam's fans explaining her decision to speak out about her grief.
'After receiving thousands of messages from Liam's fans seeking clarity during this devastating time, I wanted to share an insight into the relationship with the love of my life,' she wrote in a post on her Instagram Stories. 'Thank you so much for your kindness and support. It means more than I can put into words.'
