Bill Belichick nearly made ex-Patriots star Stephon Gilmore cry in front of team
Gilmore, 34, recalled a time when Belichick lashed out at him during a team meeting not long after the cornerback first arrived in New England in 2017.
'He killed me one day, bro. It was when I first got there,' the five-time Pro Bowler said during an appearance on The Money Down Podcast on Thursday. 'I was pressed down on the receiver. It was a bunch route. …And I got picked. Bro, he killed me the next meeting.

'I almost cried, how he did me. I ain't going to lie to you. I went to the bathroom, like man, bro. I can tell you one thing: I ain't never got picked again after that.'
Gilmore, who wound up spending four years with the Patriots, was named to two All-Pro teams and took home Defensive Player of the Year honors for 2019 during his tenure there.

The South Carolina alum was also a member of New England's Super Bowl championship squad in 2018.
Despite Belichick's apparent outburst toward Gilmore, the cornerback has always talked highly of the legendary coach, calling him the 'greatest' he's ever been around while criticizing the portrayal of him in the 'Dynasty' docuseries, which aired on Apple TV+ last year.
'Just watched The Dynasty. Bill was the greatest coach I've ever been around. Don't let that fool you. I'll never forget we were a predominantly man team during the 2018 season all the way up to the Super Bowl. When we played the Rams we switched to Zone,' Gilmore posted on X then.

After spending this past season with the Vikings, Gilmore finds himself without a team in NFL free agency.
Gilmore has made clear, however, that he hopes to be on a team for the upcoming season.

'I wanna play this year. It's just gotta be the right situation…I'm not just going to sign anywhere, it gotta be the right situation,' Gilmore said during the podcast. 'I still love the game. I still can contribute.
'It just gotta be the right place.'

Chicago Bears Connected as Suitor in Micah Parsons Trade Scenario
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Bears are without a doubt one of the more intriguing teams to watch with the 2025 NFL season officially underway. After a very busy and aggressive offseason, the Bears are expected to take a huge step in the right direction. With Ben Johnson as the team's new head coach and a lot of new talent on the roster, Chicago should take a big leap. Last season, the Bears received a lot of hype as well. However, they were unable to live up to the hype and suffered through another disappointing year that ended with missing the playoffs. Photo byFollowing the move to hire Johnson to be their new head coach, the team went out and brought in quite a few new players. Among those additions were offensive linemen Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Drew Dalman, pass rusher Dayo Odeyingbo, and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. With that being said, could Chicago be interested in making its most aggressive move yet? How about a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons? That is exactly what Matthew Schmidt of Chicago Bears on SI has suggested. "Chances are, Dallas would want to trade Parsons out of the NFC if it did decide to move him, but if Chicago were able to put together a strong enough offer for the four-time Pro Bowler (a package that would probably include Booker and draft capital), the Cowboys may be willing to listen," Schmidt wrote. Of course, he is referring to second-year pass rusher Austin Booker. Parsons finished the 2024 NFL season with 43 total tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a defended pass in 13 games. Back in 2023, he totaled 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defended passes in 17 games. However, if the team chooses not to pay up to keep him, the Bears would be wise to swoop in and try to acquire him. At 26 years old, Parsons could be the face of the Chicago defense for years to come. He would be the kind of addition that could power the Bears to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. While it is an unlikely option, Chicago should keep an eye on Parsons' situation with Dallas. For more on the Chicago Bears and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Former Auburn QB Bo Nix is learning from legendary signal callers ahead of the 2025 season
Bo Nix met with the Denver Broncos media recently to talk about his meeting with Drew Brees. Former Auburn and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is looking to take his game to another level. Nix had a big rookie season for the Denver Broncos, throwing 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 66%. He helped lead the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since the 2015 season when they won the Super Bowl against another former Auburn quarterback, Cam Newton, and the Carolina Panthers. Nix did that under head coach Sean Payton who knows something about coaching great quarterbacks. That is a category Nix wants to get to. At his previous stop with the New Orleans Saints, Payton got to coach Drew Brees. Nix had the opportunity to meet with Bress over the off-season. Nix talked about how it was fun talking to Brees over the off-season. He also mentioned talking to both Peyton and Eli Manning and picking their brains on what they went through as a player. He was quoted by Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports saying, 'I want to be the best in the world." Nix is talking to legends who, at one point in their careers, were considered the best. Especially talking about Peyton (Manning) and Brees. Adding Eli (Manning) to the list makes five championships among the three. Brees played 15 seasons for the New Orleans Saints, and all were under Payton as his head coach. During that time Brees threw for 68,010 yards and 491 touchdowns. The Saints posted a record of 142-86 record, and they were the champions for the 2009 season. It is unknown if Nix will have a career like Brees, but he is off to a good start after year one. Mock trade gives Lakers a high-level 3-and-D guard
The Los Angeles Lakers have somewhat quietly assembled a pretty impressive roster for the 2025-26 season. After finishing this past season with a gaping hole at the center position and a lack of backcourt or wing defenders, they have added center Deandre Ayton, forward Jake LaRavia and former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart while also retaining backup center Jaxson Hayes. They did, however, lose 3-and-D forward Dorian Finney-Smith to the Houston Rockets, and as of now, they don't have any real 3-and-D players. It is assumed by many that the Lakers are done shaping their roster right now. However, they would likely love to move at least one of their expiring contracts for one more player who can make a consistent impact on both ends of the floor. Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World suggested a mock trade with the Brooklyn Nets that would give L.A. guard Terance Mann for Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber and a 2032 second-round draft pick. "With Deandre Ayton and Jake LaRavia signed, and Marcus Smart bringing defensive grit to the rotation, the Lakers still needed one final jolt of athletic versatility off the bench," wrote Bitar. "Enter the three-way deal that would bring Terance Mann to L.A. Mann, newly acquired by the Nets in a three-team trade that sent Kristaps Porziņģis to Atlanta, offers just what the Lakers covet: length, perimeter defense, and hard-nosed effort at both ends. "Last season, Mann averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 36.8% from three. His defensive impact was even more tangible, ranked among the league's top perimeter stoppers in contest rate and on-ball efficiency. Adding him to a rotation featuring LeBron, Luka, Smart, Ayton, and Reaves offers optimal balance: bench scoring, floor-spacing, and reliable wing defense in high-leverage minutes." Lakers fans may remember Mann from the five seasons and change he played for the Los Angeles Clippers. He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in February and to Brooklyn a few weeks ago. The 28-year-old may not be the outstanding point-of-attack defender he was a few years ago. But at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, he can still defend at a high level, and he can effectively guard players at multiple positions both on and off the ball. However, both Vincent and Kleber and a second-round pick seem like too much to give up for a player who would, in all likelihood, come off the bench and has only started in 169 of his 412 career games in the NBA. Perhaps a trade in which the Lakers would acquire a player such as Mann but not overpay would be easier to pull off during the wintertime before the trade deadline, when teams may be willing to trade such players for a lesser return.
