Buxton's 479-foot homer powers Twins to 6-2 win over Rangers

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Byron Buxton launched a 479-foot home run, the second-longest in the majors this season, to power the Minnesota Twins past the Texas Rangers 6-2 on Wednesday night.
Buxton's three-run shot to center field off starter Jack Leiter (4-3) was the longest of his 144 career homers, and it gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead in the third inning. The only big league home run hit farther this year was a 484-foot drive by Angels star Mike Trout on April 19.
Buxton finished with three hits and a stolen base. His titanic homer came moments after he made a highlight-reel catch that resulted in a standing ovation from Twins fans. With two runners aboard, Buxton sprinted to the gap in left-center and dove to rob Marcus Semien of a hit to end the top of the third.
Willi Castro added a two-run triple in the fifth for Minnesota and scored on Carlos Correa's ground-rule double.
David Festa (1-1) allowed two runs and three hits in six innings, matching the longest start of his career.
Leiter lasted just four innings and allowed four runs on five hits and four walks.

The FIFA World Cup games are still a year away, but there's a name game already underway between two North Texas cities with a lot on the line. If you want to get Arlington's mayor really riled up, just call AT&T Stadium "Dallas Stadium." "We are happy to share the name, but we believe that it should be called Arlington Dallas Stadium," said Ross. Cities like Arlington, which will host World Cup games in 2026, will not be allowed to refer to their stadium's corporate sponsors like AT&T. So FIFA has decided to call the site of nine games Dallas Stadium, which has rankled some Arlington residents and even some people who live in Dallas. "Even though I'm from Dallas, it is here in Arlington, so personally I think it should be named where we're sitting," said Dallas resident Sheri Nelson. "I feel like it should be the Arlington Stadium now because it's located in Arlington, not Dallas," said Arlington resident Ashley Martinez. Arlington residents paid to build this stadium, and their mayor says it would be a slap in the face to them if the city is ignored by putting only Dallas's name on it. "It's not a dig against Dallas," said Ross. "It's just essential pride of the city of Arlington and what we have accomplished here in our entertainment district ... It's also an economic impact and we want to optimize our ability to take advantage of that." No word from Dallas leaders yet on whether they will fight for the city's name on the stadium, but the Dallas Sports Commission has told Arlington leaders that it will address the issue with FIFA later this summer.

Astros triumph 4-3 over White Sox as Paredes homers, Altuve shines with 2 doubles
HOUSTON (AP) — Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer and Jose Altuve doubled twice and had two RBIs to lead the Houston Astros over the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Thursday night. Houston led 4-2 entering the ninth before Mike Tauchman homered to right field off closer Josh Hader to get Chicago within 4-3. There were two outs when Miguel Vargas narrowly missed a homer on a double off the wall in left field. But Hader struck out Austin Slater to improve to 18 of 18 on save opportunities this season. Paredes appeared to injure his leg trying to beat out a double play in the seventh inning and was replaced at third base in the eighth. There was no immediate postgame update. Altuve, who is primarily playing left field this season after spending his first 14 seasons at second base, made a leaping grab near the wall in left field in the seventh to rob Chase Meidroth of extra bases.
