EAM Jaishankar meets new South Korean FM, vows deeper cooperation
The meeting coincided with the 10th anniversary of India-Republic of Korea (ROK) Special Strategic Partnership.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the ministers reaffirmed the strong and growing partnership, rooted in shared democratic values, mutual trust, shared economic interests, and commitment to regional and global peace and stability.
The two leaders reviewed cooperation across political, security, trade, economic, technology, and people-to-people fields. They agreed to set "new industrial ambitions," especially in high-tech sectors such as AI, semiconductors, clean energy, shipbuilding and defense industry. Both sides also shared assessments on regional and global developments, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, the MEA said.
After the meeting, Jaishankar posted on X that he was "delighted" to meet Cho Hyun as the partnership completed 10 years.
"Held productive discussions on advancing our bilateral cooperation in trade, manufacturing, maritime & people to people exchanges as well as new opportunities in AI, semiconductors, clean energy and defence. Also exchanged perspectives on Indo-Pacific and contemporary global developments," he wrote.
Earlier during the meeting, Jaishankar welcomed Cho Hyun, describing it as a "very special privilege" to host an old friend in a new role. Congratulating him on his recent appointment, he remarked that the visit, coming "literally a day after your National Day, and our National Day, says a lot about the value we attach to the relationship," while also extending greetings on Korea's National Liberation Day.
Highlighting the importance of the occasion, Jaishankar said the visit marks the 10th anniversary of the Special Strategic Partnership between India and South Korea. He recalled being present with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he met President Lee Jae-myung in Kananaskis, Canada, a meeting that "had very strong bonding."
India and South Korea have strengthened ties over the past decade, with collaboration ranging from trade and investment to security and technology. With Cho Hyun's first visit to New Delhi as foreign minister, both countries have signalled their intent to push the relationship into new areas of strategic technology and defence, while deepening their coordination on regional security in the Indo-Pacific.

Foreign Secretary Misri holds bilateral talks with Nepali counterpart during visit to Nepal
Kathmandu: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Sunday held bilateral talks with Nepali counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai, discussing a wide range of issues to further bolster the relationship between the two nations. Both the Foreign Secretaries held the talks behind closed doors in Kathmandu, where they discussed issues of connectivity, trade and development cooperation, as per Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Foreign Secretary Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai held bilateral talks with the Foreign Secretary of India, Shri Vikram Misri, in Kathmandu today. The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including connectivity, trade and development cooperation, underscoring the strong bond between the two nations," a tweet from the MoFA stated. Misri landed in Kathmandu on a special flight of the Air Force, which made a touchdown at 9 AM (Local Time). Misri was received by Nepali counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai along with the Indian ambassador to Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India, issuing a release on Saturday, had announced that the visit of Misri comes in line with the Neighbourhood First Policy. India attaches high priority to its relations with Nepal under its Neighbourhood First policy. The Foreign Secretary's upcoming visit continues the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and will be an opportunity to further advance our bilateral ties," the MEA said in a statement. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on Sunday evening, upon the completion of bilateral talks, tweeted, "Foreign Secretary @VikramMisri met his counterpart Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai and reviewed the progress in India-Nepal cooperation. They held a comprehensive discussion on initiatives to further strengthen the bilateral ties, and other matters of mutual interest." Visit of Misri, which comes in about a year from his last visit, started with the courtesy call on the Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. In the course of the meeting, Misri also extended the invitation for a visit to India from the Indian Prime Minister to his Nepali counterpart, sources confirmed ANI. On the first day of visit, Misri called on Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel, former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal as well as the Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba. Misri is scheduled to leave Kathmandu on August 18 after completing his two-day program. His visit comes at a time when both countries are working to strengthen their long-standing ties further and deepen cooperation in key areas.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on two-day India visit from Monday: MEA
New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India from August 18-19 and hold talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on the "boundary question," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in an official statement on Saturday. As per the MEA, EAM S Jaishankar will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister. "At the invitation of National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will visit India on 18-19 August 2025. During his visit, he will hold the 24th round of the Special Representatives' (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary question with India's SR, NSA Shri Doval. EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar will hold a bilateral meeting with Mr. Wang Yi", the MEA said in the statement. Wang's visit comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to China to attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit from August 31. India and China have been working to improve their relationship in recent months, marked by several significant developments .High-level talks between the two countries have resumed, including meetings between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, later this month. Moreover, India and China have agreed to disengage and resume patrolling in the Depsang Plains and Demchok areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This move aims to reduce tensions and restore peace along the border. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a significant pilgrimage route for Hindus, has restarted, symbolising renewed people-to-people connections and cultural diplomacy between the two nations. India and China have resumed tourist visas after a five-year gap, and there's been a revival of business relations, with Indian diesel cargo being shipped to China for the first time in over three years. Both countries are engaging in multilateral forums like BRICS, SCO, and G20, showcasing efforts to cooperate on global platforms despite bilateral tensions. The development comes amid tariffs imposed on India by United States President Donald Trump for buying Russian oil. China officially "welcomed" Prime Minister Modi for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. Addressing a press briefing in Beijing on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed optimism that the gathering would strengthen regional cooperation. "China welcomes Prime Minister Modi to China for the SCO Tianjin Summit. We believe that with the concerted effort of all parties, the Tianjin summit will be a gathering of solidarity, friendship and fruitful results, and the SCO will enter a new stage of high-quality development featuring greater solidarity, coordination, dynamism and productiveness," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated. China will host the SCO Summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1 this year, and leaders of over 20 countries, including all member states of the SCO, and heads of 10 international organisations, will attend relevant events as per the Chinese Ministry spokesperson. The Ministry of External Affairs has not yet issued a statement on the Prime Minister's visit. Prime Minister Modi last visited China in 2018 on two occasions. First, during the month of April for the India-China Informal Summit at Wuhan, and later in June for the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of SCO in Qingdao. Prime Minister Narendra Modi last met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in October 2024 on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. During their meeting, both leaders welcomed the agreement on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. They agreed that the Special Representatives would meet at an early date to oversee the management of peace and tranquillity in border areas and to explore a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question.
