CM seeks amicable solution to Mahanadi dispute
Majhi, in a high-level meeting held at State secretariat Lok Seva Bhavan, emphasised the resolution of the ongoing Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh. 'The Chief Minister said since the efforts being made to resolve the problem in the Central Water Commission are progressing slowly, it can be amicably resolved through negotiations between both the States with the support of the Central government,' Majhi was quoted as saying in the statement issued by the CMO on Wednesday.
Stating that the Central Water Commission can provide technical support in the negotiations, Majhi said this will resolve the long-standing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh and enhance the relations between the two States.
On the sidelines of the All India State Water Resources Ministers' Conference held in Rajasthan in February and on the occasion of the World Water Day held in Bhubaneswar in March, the Mahanadi water dispute was discussed between Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Deo Sai and his Odisha counterpart Mohan Charan Majhi. Both the chief ministers emphasised resolving the issue, it said. Wednesday's meeting reported that discussions are underway between officials of the two States.
Apart from Majhi, the meeting was attended by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources department Anu Garg, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Saswata Mishra, and senior officers and engineers of the Water Resources department.
The Mahanadi dispute was presently under the consideration of a tribunal. The Odisha government has alleged that Chhattisgarh has blocked the free flow of water in the Mahanadi river by constructing several barrages on the upstream.

'If you have courage': Rahul challenges PM Modi to reject Trump's ceasefire claims in LS
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reject US President Donald Trump's repeated claims on brokering a ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan. Speaking in Lok Sabha during a discussion on the Operation Sindoor, Rahul Gandhi pointed out that Trump had made the claim 29 times and stressed that if he was lying, then PM Modi should say so in his address to the House. "US President Donald Trump has said 29 times he brought about India-Pak ceasefire; if he is lying, PM must say so in Lok Sabha," Rahul Gandhi said. "If PM Modi has half the courage of an Indira Gandhi, he must deny in Lok Sabha that Trump is a 'liar' and we did not lose any planes," Gandhi repeated. Referring to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's statements on the floor of the House, Gandhi alleged that the BJP-led Centre "lacked the political will" to fight Pakistan. "Yesterday I watched Rajnath Singh's speech. I listen quite carefully when people speak. He said that Operation Sindoor began at 1.05 in the morning. He said that Operation Sindoor lasted 22 minutes. Then he said the most shocking thing - at 1.35, we called Pakistan and told them that we have hit non-military targets and we do not want escalation. Maybe he does not understand what he revealed," he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged the Union government to immediately clear the 42% BC reservation Bills, stating that delaying the Bills would harm the weaker sections in the State. He added that the State Cabinet, MLAs and MLCs would soon visit New Delhi to press for the approval of the Bills. Addressing a public meeting in Tandur on Tuesday, he said, 'I appeal to the Centre to clear the Bills for the benefit of BCs. If they keep the Bills pending, it will severely impact the interests of BCs.' Assuring the public, the Deputy CM said there's no need to panic over Indiramma housing bills. 'The government will pay the bills week by week, based on the amount of construction completed,' he said. Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka also slammed the previous BRS government for 'ignoring housing' and declared that with the return of the Indiramma Rajyam, house construction had resumed rapidly.
