Bald Sayt village: A hub for tourism, adventure enthusiasts
The village captivates international thrill-seekers due to its location along the famed Wadi (valley) of Bani Auf trail, known as 'Snake Canyon' for its challenging terrain. It also serves as a gateway to an ancient mountain pathway officially recognized among Oman's mountain trails, linking Bald Sayt to the Wilayat of Al Hamra.
Dr. Al-Mu'tasim Nasser Al Hilali, Director of Heritage and Tourism in South Al Batinah, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the village boasts five tourist facilities with 42 rooms, attracting numerous daily visitors.
Its natural and heritage diversity, coupled with unique experiences, makes it particularly popular in winter (September to April) when temperatures drop and tourism peaks. Summer tourism (May to August) also thrives due to the village's moderate climate.

These attractions complement the adventure offerings of Wadi Bani Auf and extend toward Al Hamra in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate.
The canyon, a dramatic rock fissure in Bani Auf Valley, earns its name from its serpentine twists.
Adventurers can tackle three rappelling points—the highest at 23 meters—and navigate 13 natural water pools across a 3-kilometre stretch.
A shorter trail, 'Baseer Al-Zama,' features a 4-meter rappel and opportunities for swimming and cliff-jumping amid striking rock formations.
Bald Sayt's origins are deeply rooted in history, with landmarks like the fortified 'Al-Manie Tower,' the ancient 'Al-Madiq Mosque,' and the 400-year-old 'Great Falaj' irrigation system, now a UNESCO-listed architectural heritage site.
The village also preserves intangible heritage, including traditional crafts like basket-weaving, rope-making, and palm-frond handicrafts.
Funded by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources and Al Zubair Institution, the 'Agri-Ecotourism in Aflaj Systems' project aims to revitalise rural areas. As Oman's first such initiative, it seeks to bolster economic sustainability and local community development.

Oman's public debt decreases to OMR14.1 billion
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman's public debt decreased by the end of Q2 2025 to reach OMR14.1 billion compared to OMR14.4 billion by the end of the corresponding period in 2024. By the end of Q2 2025, the Ministry of Finance had paid over OMR749 million to the private sector, received through the financial system with complete documentation. This reflects the Ministry's commitment to settling fully documented private sector dues within an average of five working days. Public revenue by the end of Q2 2025, totaled OMR5,839 million, reflecting a 6% decrease from OMR6,197 million recorded during the same quarter of 2024. The decline is largely due to a fall in hydrocarbon revenue. Furthermore, net oil revenue amounted to OMR3,018 million as of the end of Q2 2025, representing a 10% decrease from OMR3,362 million collected during the same quarter of 2024, due to lower average oil prices and production. Net gas revenue reached OMR884 million as of the end of Q2 2025, reflecting a 6% decline from OMR943 million recorded in the same quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, current revenue totalled OMR1,928 million as of the end of Q2 2025, indicating a 2% increase, i.e., OMR46 million, from OMR1,882 million collected during the same quarter in 2024. By the end of Q2 2025, public spending totalled OMR6,098 million, marking a 5% increase, i.e., OMR292 million, from OMR5,806 million recorded during the same quarter of 2024. This growth is primarily attributed to increased development expenditure compared to the same period in 2024. Current expenditure amounted to OMR4,118 million as of the end of Q2 2025, reflecting a 1% decrease, i.e., OMR53 million, from OMR4,065 million reported during the same quarter of 2024. Development expenditure of the ministries and government units reached OMR688 million as of the end of Q2 2025, representing 76% of total development expenditure, i.e. OMR900 million, allocated for 2025, driven by the accelerated pace of work on ongoing development projects. Contribution and other expenses totalled OMR1,161 million as of the end of Q2 2025, indicating a 7% increase, i.e., OMR73 million, from OMR1,088 million recorded in the same quarter of 2024. Subsidy allocations included OMR339 million to the electricity sector, OMR289 million to the social protection system, and OMR44 million for oil products. Furthermore, OMR200 million was transferred to the future debt obligations budget item. By the end of Q2 2025, spending on social sectors and basic services totalled OMR3,122 million.

Former Pakistan cricket team captain loves peaceful Oman
Muscat: Former Pakistan cricket Team captain and veteran batter Syed Inzamam ul Haq was on a short trip to Muscat to take part in the Pakistan's Independence Day celebration organised by the Embassy of Pakistan at Inter City Hotel on Wednesday. Coming to Oman after a gap of almost 33 years, Inzamam was glad to see the city and many things almost in the same shape, as he saw way back in 1992-93. Even though this was a two-day trip, the former Pakistan team captain fell in instant love with the peaceful nature of the city and he decided that he will make another trip to the country. He said that he has heard about the natural beauty of the Sultanate of Oman, and desired to explore the entire country soon. When asked about the dismal state of Pakistan cricket, he said that while looking at the encounter against West Indies in Trinidad which they lost by 202 runs, the condition of this team doesn't look good. 'But it's good that younger people are getting an opportunity. They are a talented lot and can perform better in the future. What I feel today is that whenever a team is made, it's a combination of juniors and seniors. If you maintain a proper balance between these two, Insallah the performance of the team will improve day by day. 'The main problem with the players today is that they are lacking confidence. In cricket, even if a player is very talented, if he feels that after playing two or three matches, he will be thrown out, his performance will go down.' He said that there is no dearth of talent in the Pakistan team, they are only lacking confidence. Babar is also suffering from a similar problem, he said, adding when you play for very long, a bad patch will definitely come in your career. 'Babar is a world class player, he needs your backing. ‘Khareef Dhofar 2025 Explorer' Project launched
Taqah: The 'Khareef Dhofar 2025 Explorer' project was launched on Sunday evening at Darbat Park in Dhofar Governorate. The initiative aims to enhance the experience of visitors of Khareef Dhofar (monsoon) season through an interactive digital platform that documents their participation in events. It also supports digital transformation in event management, provides accurate data on visitor patterns and distribution, encourages family participation, and reduces reliance on paper materials. The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar. Sumayyah Abdullah Al Ramadhani, CEO of Elif Entrepreneurship, the project's implementing company, stated that the launch of the 'Explorer' represents the first digital experience of its kind in Oman. It combines entertainment, exploration, and digital transformation during tourism seasons and enables small and medium-sized enterprises to participate in the rich and diverse tourism landscape. Mohammed Mohsin Al Maamari, an investor at Darbat Park, noted that the project is a qualitative addition to the Khareef Dhofar season. He said it promotes sustainable tourism by integrating technology and entertainment, opening up new horizons for domestic tourism. The launch event included a visual presentation of the initiative and the launch of the 'Dhofar Khareef 2025 Explorer' digital platform. The platform allows visitors to receive a digital stamp upon attending any event. It also enables users to manage multiple explorers within a single account and provides instant, accurate analytics to support strategic planning and decision-making. The project is a collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Dhofar Municipality. It aims to integrate modern technologies into events, enhance environmental sustainability, reduce waste, and support digital transformation by automating attendance registration and analysing visitor behaviour.
