The path is there for Alexander Zverev to win his first Masters 1000 title of 2025.
Zverev, the No. 1 seed in the tournament with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner sitting out, is a -275 favorite against Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 16 at the Canadian Masters, and he's staring down a potential contest with Holger Rune in the quarterfinals.
You need to be careful not to project too far ahead, but Zverev would fancy his chances against any of the potential opponents out of the second quarterfinal in the semifinals.
Tennis Abstract gives Zverev just about a 1-in-4 chance of winning the title at ATP Toronto, but the German does have a habit of muddying up these opportunities lately.

Player Odds Alexander Zverev -350 Francisco Cerundolo +275 Odds via bet365
It feels like the tennis world has been expecting a true breakout year from Cerundolo for a while.
The Argentinian has cemented his spot in the top 30, and he does have three career titles, but more has been expected of the 26-year-old, at least in terms of trophies.
What's even more confusing is that Cerundolo's has never had too much of an issue punching up.
He is 6-4 against top-10 opponents in 2025, and 15-16 in his career, making him one of the best players outside the top 10 at going toe-to-toe with the sport's elite players.
Cerundolo will draw even more confidence from the fact that he is 3-0 against Zverev in his career, and he's catching the German at a good time.
Francisco Cerundolo is 15-16 against top-10 opponents in his career.

Zverev lost in the opening round at Wimbledon and has been inconsistent since winning a title in Munich back in April.
The World No. 3 didn't make things easy on himself in Round 1 of this tournament against Matteo Arnaldi either.
Cerundolo can be an infuriating opponent with his relentlessness and ability to defend, and that should give Zverev plenty of chances to spiral.
The Play: Francisco Cerundolo (+275, bet365)

Giants' Deonte Banks making push for starting cornerback spot

Access the Giants like never before Get texts from Paul Schwartz with all the latest Giants news and insights, exclusive to Sports+ subscribers. tRY IT NOW The ball was up in the air, the pass intended for Wan'Dale Robinson, slightly underthrown by Russell Wilson. This situation has not always or even often gone well for Deonte Banks. This time, it did. Advertisement The third-year cornerback read the play correctly, was in the right place at the right time, tracked the ball, met it full speed and came away with the interception. It has been an up-and-down summer for Banks, but Wednesday was one of his better training camp practices. Banks and Cor'Dale Flott are listed as co-starters on the first unofficial depth chart issued by the Giants, the only position designated with two players for one spot. Advertisement The front office and coaching staff are adamant that Banks, the 2023 first-round pick, is not going to be handed anything after his disappointing second NFL season. Banks and Flott have alternated snaps with the first-team defense, but Flott has not been able to stay on the field, missing time this week with an undisclosed injury. That absence has allowed Banks to vault to the lead in the battle for the starting job opposite veteran free agent addition Paulson Adebo. Deonte Banks works out during a practice earlier in Giants' training camp. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Advertisement 'I think they're both doing a really good job,'' defensive coordinator Shane Bowen said. 'Obviously, Flott's missed a little bit of time here the past couple days, but I think they're doing a really good job. I like the growth of Tae. I think competition's been good for both of them. I really do.'' Tight end Theo Johnson got a step on Banks and came away with a catch, with Banks slapping his hands together, sensing he was on the scene but did not prevent the completion. Later, Banks displayed tight coverage on Jalin Hyatt on a deep route and got a pass breakup on the play. Deonte Banks looks on during a Giants training camp session earlier this month. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Advertisement 'He's been able to get his hands on footballs more, I feel like, this early on in training camp,'' Bowen said. 'More so than what it was last year. He's working. He's working. He's competing for the job. He's trying to earn it, just like everybody else is trying to earn their play time. I thought Flott was doing a really good job. From the spring to now, he was probably one of the guys that had the most pass breakups. So just continue that competition.'' It comes as no surprise that the effervescent Wilson wants to play Saturday in the preseason opener at Buffalo. I'm ready to play.'' There was a minor dustup when RB Jonathan Ward was not happy when DL D.J. Davidson continued the play far down the field, and Ward let Davidson know about it. Slumping Juan Soto saves Mets from no-hitter — but still hears plenty of boos

Juan Soto heard some boos after one defensive misplay on Wednesday, and several more following a couple of failed at-bats as his and his team's recent offensive slumps continued. The $765 million slugger at least spared the Mets the embarrassment and ignominy of having a no-hitter thrown against them, however, with a solo home run with one out in the ninth inning of a series-sweeping 4-1 loss to Gavin Williams and the Guardians. 'I wasn't thinking about the no-hitter,' Soto said after the game. 'I was working on my swing, trying to do the same thing I was doing since the first inning. I just came through.' Advertisement Soto hadn't delivered much at the plate since the All-Star break, entering that at-bat hitting .164 with an OPS under .600 over 17 games. 3 Juan Soto homered in the ninth inning of the Mets' loss on Wednesday. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post Soto's blast, which barely eluded the glove of leaping Cleveland center fielder Angel Martínez, also represented the first hit for the Mets since the fourth inning of Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Guardians. Advertisement 'It's always tough. I feel really bad, especially for the starters, they have been doing a really good job and we just haven't been able to give them some run support,' Soto said. 'It's frustrating for the offense and it's frustrating for the starters.. But we just gotta figure out a way.' That needs to come quickly for the Mets, who have dropped eight of their past nine games entering a weekend series in Milwaukee against the NL Central-leading Brewers. 3 Soto's homer broke up Cleveland's no-hit bid. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post 'We have to be better. As a group we have to come through,' Soto said. 'It's not going to be easy. It's a challenge, but we have to go out there and take it. Advertisement 'Nobody's gonna bring a trophy over here and give it to us. We gotta go out there and take it.' Soto also heard boos in the sixth after he misplayed a ball over his head in right field into a run-scoring triple by Gabriel Arias. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said he was OK with how Soto went after that ball. 3 Soto has struggled the past month. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post Advertisement 'Yeah, it went over his head, and it bounced away from him, so yeah, no issues there,' Mendoza said. Asked if he believes Soto's late home run can be a turning point offensively for the four-time All-Star, Mendoza added, 'I think I said it before the game, the past couple of games there's been signs there that he's more balanced, he's connected, he's short to the ball. And we know when you see that right there … I think he's getting close.'
