A change from the managerial rollercoaster! Wayne Rooney enjoys a day out at Alton Towers with wife Coleen and his two youngest sons
Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen took a step back from their working lives to enjoy a day out at Alton Towers with their two youngest sons to celebrate half-time.
The former Plymouth Argyle manager is currently without a coaching position, but remains a popular pundit, most recently working with Gary Lineker and Co for the BBC 's coverage of the FA Cup final.
Rooney was a genial presence in the punditry line-up, taking a joke from Lineker about his coaching career in good humour during Crystal Palace 's victory against Manchester City.
Micah Richards had asked Rooney what he thought Oliver Glasner might discuss at half-time with his Eagles side 1-0 up - only for the former Match of the Day host to crack: 'His teams were never 1-0 up!'
Rooney was quick to switch attention back to the game, but will no doubt be mulling his future in the dug-out ahead of next season.
However, before the start of preparations for the 2025/26 campaign, Rooney was able to let loose with his family at the popular theme park.
Coleen shared pictures of the family day out to her Instagram with the caption: 'Alton Towers is always a great half-term trip! We had a fantastic time as always... thanks for looking after us (Alton Towers)'.
But as well as one or two wholesome pictures of the couple with nine-year-old Kit and seven-year-old Cass, Coleen also included pictures of herself and Rooney enjoying the rides, smiling while clinging onto the rollercoasters for dear life.
Rooney managed to crack a smile throughout - even if his grimace couldn't match his wife's beaming grin - perhaps finding the twists and turns of the rollercoasters at the amusement park child's play after a spin on the managerial merry-go-round last season.
Rooney started the season as manager of the Championship side but by the mid-autumn was imperiled in a battle to avoid relegation.
The former Manchester United great was eventually sacked on New Year's Eve and replaced by Miron Muslic.
Coleen, by contrast, has enjoyed a career resurgence, winning hearts as a runner-up on last year's iteration of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
The influencer was also able to share her sense of 'relief' after Rebekah Vardy was ordered to pay her a £1.4million settlement following their years-long Wagatha Christie legal battle.
Breaking her silence at the time, Coleen insisted that 'time and money should have been put to better use' in a scathing public message.
She wrote: 'The ruling yesterday in my favour finally brings this claim to an end, it's a relief and brings closure for my family and I.
'Throughout this long process, I am grateful that the judgements have consistently gone my way.
'However, as I have always maintained this claim did not need to be made or run for as long as it did.
'The time and money should have been put to better use.
'I want to thank my legal representatives, management, friends and family for their guidance and constant support.
'Thanks also to the public and many well wishers who have been in touch with such kind messages.
'This episode is not something I ever wanted in my life however I am thankful for the way my family and team have dealt with it. We look forward to moving on with our lives.'
Coleen must also pay Vardy a total of £135,097.50 in costs under the terms of court orders from 2024, which will be set off against what Rebekah must pay.

Keep Calvert-Lewin as 'squad player' on a 'reduced wage'
We asked for your questions for BBC Sport pundit Nedum Onuoha on your Premier League asked whether Everton should keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the expiry of his contract this you have got to say this next season is going to be huge for Dominic Calvert-Lewin have seen his talents but the goalscoring record that got him in and around the England squad is becoming longer and longer needs to find a stretch where he is healthy, fit and available because you want to be able to rely on a striker and Everton have not been able to rely on Calvert-Lewin for a long time have a potential England international in the squad is brilliant - but only if they are available. The club will need to have a serious look at what they can do to first keep him healthy, but then secondly to keep him sharp. This comes from competition in the is worth keeping for now because is there cover if Everton decide to let him go? Do they have someone who can fill those boots straight away?Beto has done well in parts and been trusted in the back half of the season. I do not think Calvert-Lewin himself, or anyone at Everton, really expects him to be a guaranteed starter going forward. Unfortunately for him, he just has not played enough football in the past few the club can find a way to offer him a new deal - on a reduced wage and perhaps appearance-based clauses - then I would keep him as a squad new contract would need to reflect his lack of football. He is just not going to get any deal on the same terms as when he was pushing to play for England, and if the player does not accept that or wants a fresh start then he should for Calvert-Lewin, he can work his way back to being a regular starter and regular goalscorer Onuoha was speaking to BBC Sport's Nat Hayward

Exclusive: Guardiola dreams of World Cup glory but has no plans to leave City anytime soon
BARCELONA, June 5 - Pep Guardiola has no plans to leave Manchester City anytime soon but the Spaniard has often thought about what it would be like to guide an international team and says he would love to take on the challenge of a World Cup or Euros campaign. "I would love to be in a World Cup, in a Euro, a Copa America,' Guardiola told Reuters in an exclusive interview. 'I have always thought about it. But it depends on many, many things. If it happens, it's fine. If it doesn't happen, it's more than fine as well." After winning 12 domestic top-flight titles across Spain, Germany and England, Guardiola endured a trophyless campaign with City last season, a shock to the system after so much success. While he came in for some stinging criticism over his elite squad's failure on all fronts, Guardiola said he was not interested in "proving the haters wrong' when City start afresh next season. "It's to prove myself that I can do it, I don't want to have those feeling that last season left' he added. "Because when we win, the wine tastes better afterwards, you sleep better. I don't know a manager who loses games and sleeps like a baby. It doesn't happen. You've got to worry. That's part of our life." Top of Guardiola's 'to-do list' is to win another Champions League with City and should they cross paths once more with Real Madrid, his nemesis Carlo Ancelotti will not be in the opposing dugout after the Italian took charge of Brazil. Mere mention of Ancelotti's departure was enough to put a smile on Guardiola's lips. The pair faced each other five times in the knockout rounds of the Champions League, with the Italian coming out on top in all but one. "I'm so happy for him,' Guardiola said. "But I'm so happy that he's not in Madrid anymore because all the time he beats me. That I don't have to handle it anymore." The Spaniard added that it was unrealistic to expect him to win everything every year, and said that even the most successful athletes lose more than they win. "I won 12 domestic leagues in 16 years. It's not bad, I would say. But you cannot win all the time. I cannot win the Champions League all the time," he added. "Michael Jordan, the best athlete I've ever seen in my life won six NBA Championships in 15 years. Tiger Woods, one incredible golf player, Jack Nicklaus, I don't know how many he has. But they lost more Grand Slams than they won. It happens." Enjoying a short holiday in Barcelona, Guardiola said he is just trying to live a "normal life" before football pulls him back in, with City set to play in the revamped Club World Cup in the United States from June 14 to July 13. 'Wake up later and don't be with the players. Try to live what would be a normal life,' Guardiola said. 'Go to a concert, lay down on the sofa, read books. I can play golf when my body allows me. Watch series that people suggest to me during the season to watch, like I'm not able to do. "And I want to tell you something. Usually, I'm going to do the same things as you do in your life.'
