However, the defending champions faltered in the middle overs and managed 45 runs in the last five overs as DC pulled back things in the death overs.
On a better batting surface compared to the previous game, Narine took the attack to Dushmantha Chameera (1/46), smashing him for 25 runs in an over that included two sixes -- one of them a one-handed slog over midwicket -- and a four.
Gurbaz then took on Mitchell Starc, hitting two boundaries and a six before edging to Abhishek Porel in the third over, ending the opening stand.
Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (26) continued the momentum, hitting Starc for a six and a four, and then adding a couple of more boundaries off Mukesh Kumar to take KKR to 79/1 at the end of the powerplay.
However, KKR stuttered in the middle overs as DC spinners struck back.
Vipraj Nigam (2/41) trapped Narine leg-before, before Axar Patel removed Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer (7) in quick succession, reducing the visitors to 117/4 in 10 overs.
Young Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44) steadied the innings with Rinku Singh (36), the duo adding 61 runs off 46 balls. Raghuvanshi struck two big sixes off Vipraj, while Rinku targeted Kuldeep Yadav for two boundaries and a six in a 17-run over that helped KKR cross the 150-run mark.
There was a moment of misjudgment when wicketkeeper Porel didn't support Axar's appeal for a catch down the leg side against Rinku. UltraEdge later showed an edge.
KKR kept their run rate above 10 for most part but lost momentum again as both Raghuvanshi and Rinku departed in quick succession, falling to Chameera and Vipraj respectively, just when they looked to accelerate.
Andre Russell blasted two fours and a six to take KKR past the 200-mark. But KKR lost three wickets in as many balls with Starc picking up two wickets in his dramatic last over.

Prabhsimran Singh played a key role in Punjab Kings' run to the final in the IPL this year, leading the run charts for his side. The 25-year-old opener had his best season and set a new record for the most runs by an uncapped player in the competition with 549 runs. The opener credited head coach Ricky Ponting for his incredible run in the IPL. 'I feel most of the credit goes to Ricky Ponting. He gave me clarity. 'Ahead of the season, when a youngster has that clarity, he can focus completely on enhancing his game,' said Prabhsimran, who is in Chennai with the Punjab team to take part in the Buchi Babu tournament that starts on Monday. 'This year, I felt my consistency was better. In the previous years, I would play well, but would get out for 30 or 35. I worked a lot on that this year. This time, I tried to take up more responsibility, and I got the results.' The wicketkeeper-batter also formed an effective partnership alongside Priyansh Arya and said the duo worked together ahead of the tournament to understand each other. 'Before the season, we heard everyone saying that both are young uncapped openers and questioned it. The captain and coach gave us clarity at the start of the tournament itself that we would be opening. We would train in nets and in practice games, and from there we just matched,' said Prabhsimran. Looking ahead to the next edition, the Punjab opener is hoping to build on his IPL exploits. 'Every player, when he starts playing cricket, it's his dream to play for India. I am glad to captain Mumbai, says Ayush Mhatre
For someone who's bowled very little in senior cricket, it came as a surprise to watch Ayush Mhatre practise his off-spin, bowling to Sarfaraz Khan in the nets at the A.M. Jain College ground here on Sunday. Mumbai was preparing for its opening fixture in the Buchi Babu All India cricket tournament against TNCA XI, set to begin at the Gojan-B ground on Monday. 'I had a niggle, so I didn't bowl in the England tour (India u-19 tour in June and July). But I bowl regularly,' he emphasised after practice. Despite the presence of a few senior players in the squad, the 18-year-old has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading his side in the tournament. 'I'm very glad to captain the Mumbai team. It's very special for me. I'm very lucky to captain Mumbai at such a young age!' he said. But he isn't wearing the captaincy hat for the first time. He led the India u-19 side that toured England recently. He's been named the captain again for the u-19 tour to Australia in September. Speaking about how captaincy has had a positive impact on his overall game, he said: 'The (sense of) responsibility has improved. And the involvement in the game has been better for me now, because as a captain, you have to be alert for all the situations.' Having played for CSK last IPL season, he said he has 'learned from Mahi bhai (M.S. Dhoni) to stay calm in any situation and make smart decisions on the field without being aggressive.' He's clear in his head when it comes to his approach to batting in multi-day cricket. 'Every batter has his own strengths, and my strength is aggressive cricket. I just think about scoring runs. So automatically, if the ball comes in my range, I just hit it,' he said.
