Elected leaders among 28 sacked from PKR for dual membership

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said PKR only takes action against members if it is confirmed that it is not the last party they joined.
PETALING JAYA : PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh says a total of 28 party members, including three recently elected leaders, have been expelled for being confirmed members of other parties.
Fuziah said following the first round of election nominations at the branch level, the party's central leadership council had initially discussed and endorsed the expulsion of 36 members who had been flagged for dual party membership issues.
'Of the 36, 11 appealed and were reinstated after presenting evidence of their commitment to PKR, including letters of support and records of grassroots activity,' she told FMT.
Further disciplinary action was then taken after the division elections concluded, with three elected leaders – the Jempol and Pasir Salak division chiefs, and Besut Wanita PKR chief – being sacked after complaints were verified.
Fuziah said that in the case of Jempol, action was taken only after due diligence was completed, even though the leader had won the election. A re-election was held for the position.
She said verifying cases of dual party membership is not as straightforward as some assume, especially when evidence is lacking or timelines are unclear.
Fuziah said PKR only takes action against members if it is confirmed that PKR is not the last party they joined.
'We often receive complaints of dual or even triple membership. The first thing I always do is establish which party they last joined.
'If it's not PKR, then there are grounds for disciplinary action,' she said.
She said the party does not act against members who had joined Umno in the past but later aligned themselves with PKR, pointing to cases dating back to the 1998 Reformasi movement.
'Many followed president Anwar Ibrahim after he was sacked from Umno. Some never formally left Umno but eventually joined PKR. In those cases, it's clear where their loyalty lies,' she said.
Fuziah acknowledged the difficulty in verifying party membership records, especially when access to other parties' databases is limited.
'In some parties, we can check. Others, we can't. That's why we look for other indicators – like whether the individual holds a position or is seen actively contesting under another party's banner,' she said.
She said ordinary members are particularly hard to track and a complaint without solid proof is not enough to take action.
'For instance, if someone just appears in a photo with a Bersatu leader, that's not conclusive evidence,' she said.

Heroic tributes pour in for Rafizi from PKR grassroots as he bows out from Madani gov't with honour

'MR Rafizi, you are a man with honour and integrity. To me, you are an exemplary citizen. I am glad to see someone who were educated at the same secondary school as I was, would live up to his ideals. I will continue to support you in your fight to make this country a better place for everyone.' Such is one of perhaps tens of thousands of accolades that accompany the Facebook post of Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli as he announced his decision yesterday (May 28) to step down from his ministerial portfolio given the loss of his deputy presidency means he no longer has PKR's mandate to translate its agenda into government programmes. Currently clearing his leave, he has set June 17 to be his last day in office. At the time of writing, that FB post alone has garnered a staggering 42K likes, 14K comments and 4.9K shares, majority of which praised the Pandan MP for his heroics by 'walking the talk' (when he expressed his desire to resign), hence living up to his principle as a leader with integrity. Judging from the moral support accorded to Rafizi – which presumably have come from the PKR and for that matter, Pakatan Harapan (PH) grassroots – one wonders if the underlying disgruntlement that have been openly expressed since it was announced that Nurul Izzah Anwar has won the deputy prescient race would boil over in light of the next national polls slated for 2027. If this happens, thinning faith in the newly-elected PKR leadership coupled with concerns over the fading Reformasi spirit within the party can probably spell disaster to the ruling PH coalition by virtue of PKR holding the steering wheel via its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Former The Star environment section editor Andrew Sia joined the chorus of applause for Rafizi who is touted as a 'think tank MP' (by virtue of him having founded pollster Invoke Malaysia) with the gesture 'PMXI💪🏽👍🏼'. 'Thank you for keeping up the struggle for Reformasi … Hope you can return to clean up this country,' penned the now Malaysiakini columnist. 'A dignified move unlike certain politikus who continues to hinge onto their post as Senator despite having lost (an election).' Over on X, Rafizi's decision to step down was greeted with expression of anger towards the current leadership with one seemingly pro-opposition commenter respecting his decision 'cause you walk the talk' but teasingly remarked that she had searched in vain for Nurul Izzah's comment. Another self-proclaimed critic praised him for 'having the balls' while others described him 'as still having spine and integrity' which makes him a 'genuine reformist' as they reminded the PKR president and Rafizi's successor Nurul Izzah that divine intervention a.k.a. karma is on the way as they are bound to reap what they sow. Rafizi's resignation post had at the time of publication generated 968.7K views with 9.6K likes, 928 comments and 7.3K shares. At the end of the day, a pro-Madani government backer summed up best with 'Red flag 🚩🚩🚩' that 'something is not right within the entire PKR structure and organisation'. Scarce commodity: Malaysia produces only two ministers with integrity, self-righteousness?

'THE second minister in Malaysian history to resign voluntarily. Past ministers never resign even when tainted with corruption and scandals of all sorts! He and Rafizi have a rare value which is lacking in today's materialistic world honour!' Such thought-provoking comment was penned by a netizen on a NST Online Facebook post of former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad leaving his office soon after his resignation yesterday (May 28) as the natural resources and environmental sustainability minister. The Setiawangsa MP's move marked the second resignation of the day after former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli had earlier stepped down as economy minister on grounds that he no longer has the party's mandate to translate its agenda into government programmes. Stating that he was well-aware his party position was a key factor in his cabinet appointment, Nik Nazmi whose resignation will take effect on July 4 will start clearing his leave starting today (May 29) until July 3. A search by FocusM (stand to be corrected) of ministers who had resigned in recent times pointed to former health minister Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek who gave up his ministerial portfolio on Jan 2, 2008 after having admitted that he was the individual featured in a sensational sex DVD that was widely being circulated in Johor at that time. Following his admission a day earlier, Chua who is now 78 also formally announced his resignation as the Labis MP and MCA vice-president. Years later, he attributed his downfall to his work dedication as health minister and MCA vice-president which eventually sparked suspicion among his political rivals. As Malaysians dug deeper in search of ministers with such exemplary attributes such as Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, one commenter recalled Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as having sued the Malaysian Government and twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for firing him as finance minister on Sept 2, 1998. This was when a fellow netizen clarified that the ordeal was not prompted by PMX's loss in party election (he was in UMNO then) but that he was 'accused of committing sod*my which he couldn't accept voluntarily'. Going further back, a commenter recounted former health and social welfare minister Abdul Aziz Ishak (1960-1962) as 'a great minister who didn't mind losing his (ministerial) position'. 'He resigned because the then PM Tunku Abdul Rahman wouldn't let him build a n urea fertiliser factory to help paddy farmers,' he shared. 'Aziz is the younger brother of Singapore's first president Yusof Ishak (who also founded Utusan Melayu) whose portrait is still displayed in Singapore.' Fast forward to the 2020s, the commenter posited that perhaps Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming should 'step down temporarily until the MACC's (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) investigation into the MyKiosk fiasco is complete'. 'Only by so doing would DAP (Nga is currently DAP's deputy chairman) be a political party with dignity,' he opined. – May 29, 2025 Main image credit: Bernama

MCCC Sabah builds strategic business ties

Published on: Sunday, June 15, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 15, 2025 Text Size: MCCC Sabah's strong presence at the AGM reflects the Sabah business community's commitment to national chamber development and its organisational strength. Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah branch, led by President Datuk Dexter Lau Wei Dick, attended the MCCC National Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the 14th National Council Election, here, on June 13-14. Demonstrating its commitment to the core mission of 'connecting resources, building platforms, and expanding opportunities', the Sabah delegation hosted a high-level business networking dinner on June 13 at Calia, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Advertisement The event served as a strategic bridge to foster dialogue, showcasing the forward-looking and enterprising spirit of Sabah's business community in this new era. Spearheaded and coordinated by Public Relations Officer Edmund Goh Chuen Sheng, the networking dinner attracted a gathering of entrepreneurs, corporate elites, investors, and prominent figures from various industries and the cultural sector across Malaysia. Guests engaged in in-depth conversations on capital synergy, brand collaboration, international expansion, and industrial trends – laying a solid foundation for future cross-industry and interstate partnerships. Following the dinner, the delegation attended the official welcome banquet hosted by the national chamber at Chuai Heng Banquet Hall, further strengthening relationships with chamber counterparts from other states and boosting Sabah's visibility on the national stage. On June 14, the delegation participated in the AGM held at Wisma Huazong, contributing to discussions on constitutional amendments, resolutions, and witnessing the election of the new national council – highlighting Sabah's strong commitment to institutional development and organizational responsibility. According to Goh, the significance of this trip goes far beyond attendance. 'This mission shows that the Sabah Branch is not limited to local activities, but is taking a proactive approach to connect with national resources and partners. 'We have lived up to the state government's expectations by stepping out of our comfort zone to establish new connections with prominent entrepreneurs, including listed companies and those managing major development projects,' he said. 'Throughout this short but intensive engagement, we exchanged valuable insights on business models, economic outlooks, and Sabah's development prospects – sparking opportunities for collaboration that can indirectly spur business growth and job creation in our state. Supporting our members in business expansion has always been a core leadership goal of President Datuk Dexter Lau.' Goh expressed confidence that as the chamber continues to promote regional collaboration and economic dynamism, the State government would support these efforts by appointing capable individuals to work with the chamber. Through combined resources, networks, and dedication, the chamber hopes to build broader international exposure for Sabah's talents, enabling them to gain global experience and knowledge and, ultimately, contribute to the state's development upon their return. He emphasised that the Sabah Branch remains committed to its mission: 'Let the nation see Sabah, believe in Sabah, and collaborate with Sabah.' Through various platforms, the branch will continue to help local businesses broaden their horizons and strengthen their competitiveness. 'Going out,' he said, 'is not just a market strategy – it is a reflection of our belief in cooperation.' In recent years, MCCC Sabah has actively upheld the philosophy of 'promoting cooperation through dialogue, and driving development through cooperation.' By participating in national AGMs, regional forums, and young entrepreneur initiatives, the branch continues to create meaningful and result-driven partnership opportunities. Moving forward, it will remain grounded in practical action to build a solid bridge for Sabah enterprises to connect nationally and expand globally.
