QC jeepney driver wanted for car theft in Baguio, arrested
According to Emil Sumangil's exclusive report on '24 Oras' on Monday, the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) and Baguio Police caught the suspect along Aurora Boulevard.
Authorities confirmed that the jeepney driver, who has been wanted for four years in the Cordillera Administrative Region, has a warrant of arrest for violating the Anti-Carnapping Law.
PNP-HPG spokesperson Police Lieutenant Nadame Malang said the suspect did not return the car he rented.
GMA Integrated News is reaching out to the suspect for comment.
In Novaliches, the PNP-HPG arrested another man for allegedly stealing at least 20 cars.
'Sa informasyon din po nakuha po ng inyong PNP-HPG, siya po ay nakadali ng di baba sa dalawampung sasakyan. Ngayon, tumutulong po ang inyong PNP-HPG para tukuyin at alamin ang lokasyon ng mga sasakyang po kanya nakuha,' Malang said.

Among the victims of the suspect's 'rentangay' modus is Teacher Camille, who traced her van in Tacloban City, Leyte.
The suspect was able to transfer the ownership of the van to another person even though it is still being paid through installment by Teacher Camille.
'Nananawagan po ako sa LTO (Land Transportation Office), sana po ma-stop na po yun to kasi hanggang ngayon hindi po namin ma-pull out yung unit namin, kasi pinapakita po sa amin na legally transferred po yung van,' Camille said.
(I am appealing to the LTO to put a stop to this, because we still haven't been able to retrieve our unit. They are presenting documents showing that the ownership of the van was legally transferred.)
'Yung ginawa po sa amin na ganito sobra, sobra aksaya oras, panahon, pera. At saka yung threat na kami po ay paulit-ulit binabalikan ng financing, dahil hindi po namin mabayaran yung sasakyan na wala naman sa amin. Sobrang hirap po, sobrang hirap,' she added.
(This is a waste of time and money. And we're being threatened by the financing firm because we are not able to pay the van, which is not in our possession. It's really difficult. It's so difficult.)
The suspect also stole his uncle's new pickup truck.
'Sabi niya, ginamit niya papuntang Bicol, hindi niya ibinalik (He told me he will drive the pickup truck going to Bicol, but did not return it),' the uncle said.
The PNP-HPG also said the suspect releases brand new vehicles using fake identification and bank accounts.
'Dati po is legit naman po akong buy and sell, so may mga pumasok lang po sa akin na mga transactions na in-expect ko po na okay. Bandang huli po nung na-deal ko na illegal pala yung mga transactions,' the suspect said.

Man wanted for drug possession yields P136-M shabu in Laguna
Authorities seized P136 million worth of suspected shabu while serving a warrant of arrest in San Pablo, Laguna. According to Marisol Abduhrahman's Tuesday report on '24 Oras,' agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) were only supposed to serve a warrant of arrest against the suspect when they discovered the 20 kilos of shabu. 'Meron kasi syang pending na case po sa isang RTC dito sa Manila for violation also of 9165, particularly Section 1. That's possession. Nagkataon lang naman ho nung i-implement natin yung warrant of arrest, may nakita din ho dun sa sasakyan ng tao,' said PDEA spokesperson Atty Frederick Calulut. Crime rate down 7.75% over 10-month period — PNP chief Torre
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III said Tuesday the country's crime rate went down 7.75% from August 2024 to June 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. In his speech during the 124th Police Service Anniversary celebration at Camp Crame attended by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., Torre said the number of crime incidents decreased from 192,677 to 177,735. "Crime incidents dropped by 7.75% with a total of 177,735 incidents from August 2024 to June 2025 compared to 192,677 from the same period of previous year," Torre said. "This significant decline clearly reflects the effectiveness of our intensified anti-criminality operations, especially our increased police presence across the country," he added. In the drive against illegal drugs, Torre said a total of 153,609 operations have been conducted from July 1, 2022 to August 10, 2025. Anti-drug operations resulted in 190,568 arrests and confiscation of contraband worth some P54.6 billion, according to Torre. "This represents a 258% increase compared to the same period of 2016 to 2019. A testament to our bloodless campaign that decisively targets both high-value and street-level offenders," Torre said. Torre said the PNP is also seeking to address cyber crimes, human trafficking, kidnapping, and even fake news. With regard to internal cleansing, Torre said that over the past year, a total of 3,413 members of its personnel were sanctioned. Under the PNP's newly implemented Five-Minute Response Policy, Torre said police responded to 94% of the 3,574 emergency calls within five minutes from June 2 to August 10. "As we mark our 124th year, the question before us is not what have we done? But what more can we do?" Torre said. "As the Chief of the Philippine National Police, I call on every officer and personnel to continue embodying the true spirit of public service.
