Teo warns public of RM100 SARA scam links asking for personal details
She said the scammers often employ deceptive tactics by sharing links accompanied by posters that appear convincing, incorporating official-looking elements such as the Malaysia MADANI and Bersama Malaysiaku logos to mislead recipients.
'One such example is the link BantuanNegara.com, which falsely claims to provide official information about the RM100 SARA aid and prompts users to submit their personal information. The Ministry of Finance confirmed yesterday that this link is fake,' she said.
'My advice is, if the information truly comes from the government, the link will typically end with '.gov.my' – where 'gov' stands for government,' she told reporters after attending the MADANI Community Service programme held in conjunction with the launch of National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign here.
She added that numerous complaints had been received regarding the matter, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had taken steps to block the fraudulent link.
Teo said that such scams often evolve by creating new websites with similar names, such as 'BantuanNegara1.com' or 'BantuanNegara2.com', and urged the public to remain vigilant.
She also stressed that no money will be deposited into e-wallets or Touch 'n Go accounts. Instead, eligible MyKad holders only need to present their identification cards at participating outlets, including Lotus's, Mydin, 99 Speedmart and selected grocery stores – to access the benefits.
'The primary role of the MyKad in this programme is solely to verify the identity of recipients. It has no connection to any e-wallet platform, so there's no need to worry if your MyKad isn't linked to certain applications,' Teo said.
She also urged the public to rely only on official websites or verified social media accounts of government agencies, such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications for the latest and most accurate information.

Top STPM students from two Sibu schools receive cash incentives

A total of 95 top Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) achievers from two schools in Sibu's Bukit Assek constituency, Sarawak, received cash incentives. Of a total allocation of RM32,700, 68 students from SMK Sacred Heart received RM23,500 while 27 students from SMK Methodist received RM9,200. The incentives were to reward students for their excellent performance while encouraging them to excel in tertiary education. 'This year, after discussions with teachers from both schools, we decided to refine and enhance our incentive system,' said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng. He said the revised system now rewarded students based on their cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Speaking at the presentation ceremony at SMK Sacred Heart, Chieng said those who scored a CGPA 3.0 to 3.32 received RM200 each, CGPA 3.33-3.66 (RM300), CGPA 3.67-3.99 (RM400) and CGPA 4.0 (RM500). 'This adjustment encourages students to push beyond their limits while rewarding them fairly,' he explained. Chieng also spoke on Sarawak government's efforts to promote education across the state. They include the free tertiary education scheme (FTES), which is set to be implemented next year. It will cover tuition fees for Sarawak students pursuing undergraduate degrees at state-owned institutions. These include Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Curtin University Malaysia, University of Technology Sarawak, i-Cats University College and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs). 'For students from households with a per capita income of RM1,500 or below, FTES will provide annual financial aid of RM15,000 to ease their living expenses and support their higher education journey,' said Chieng. DAP Kuching offers help for small retailers to join Kedai MyKasih under SARA aid programme

KUCHING (Aug 7): The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Kuching office is offering to assist small and medium-sized supermarkets and grocery stores to register as Kedai MyKasih partner merchants under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme. Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said the initiative aimed to ensure more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can benefit from the Madani government's people-centric policies by expanding the programme's access across local communities. He said while the Sara aid has been running smoothly, many smaller retailers have yet to register despite showing interest in the programme. 'The Sara assistance is a vital support system provided by the government for low-income households. Beneficiary families can use their MyKad to purchase basic necessities at participating merchants,' he said in a statement yesterday. He encouraged more retailers to seize the opportunity and join the initiative, and said retailers who register successfully will be provided with the necessary system support to operate under the scheme. 'Upon successful registration, retailers will receive a free POS system and barcode scanner. During checkout, customers simply need to present their MyKad. 'The system will then read their information, scan the purchased items, and the POS will print a receipt for record-keeping,' he said. Dr Yii added that payments to participating retailers would be handled efficiently. 'The relevant government departments will also credit the retailers' total sales directly into their bank accounts twice a week, ensuring smooth and secure transactions.' Dr Yii also highlighted the programme not only helps needy families, but also brings additional customers and revenue to small businesses, which is a win-win policy for everyone. 'We encourage small and medium-sized supermarkets and grocery stores in Kuching to actively participate in this initiative,' he added.
