MRVL's Modular Packaging Tech: Can it Transform AI Accelerators?
For advanced packaging solutions, Marvell Technology has been leveraging Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate and Integrated Fan-Out methods, which enabled it to develop complex 2.5D, 3D, and 3.5D designs for high-performance compute Application Specific Integrated Circuit.
Marvell Technology is now enhancing its capabilities with modular redistribution layer (RDL) interposer technology as an alternative to traditional silicon interposers. This 2.5D packaging technology can be used to develop multi-die AI accelerator solutions that are 2.8 times larger compared to existing single monolithic dies and integrate four HBM3/3E stacks across six RDL layers.
The RDL interposer technology also offers shorter die-to-die connections to reduce latency and improve power efficiency. As the RDL solution is modular in nature, it allows seamless replacement of defective dies, which finally reduces costs and increases yields. The technology is compatible with HBM3/3E, XPU-type chips, and is expected to be qualified for the upcoming HBM-4.
These factors have made it attractive for hyperscalers to use it readily. As data center infrastructure investments grow at a rapid pace, Marvell Technology is expected to capitalize on it. MRVL anticipates that its total addressable market for data center semiconductors will rise to $94 billion by 2028. It expects its accelerated custom compute offerings to reach $55.4 billion with a CAGR of 53% from 2023 to 2028.
How Competitors Fare Against Marvell Technology
Broadcom 's AVGO advanced 3.5D XDSiP packaging platform is specifically designed to enhance the performance and efficiency of custom AI XPUs for AI accelerators. Broadcom's Semiconductor segment, which accounts for its custom silicon solutions, grew 11% year over year in the first quarter of fiscal 2025.
Advanced Micro Devices AMD is another player in the custom silicon solutions and AI accelerator space with its semi-custom SoC offerings and Instinct Accelerators that power numerous data centers. Advanced Micro Devices' reconfigurable Alveo Adaptable Accelerator Cards are used to speed up compute-intensive applications in data centers.
While Broadcom and Advanced Micro Devices are formidable players in the custom silicon space for AI accelerators, Marvell Technology's move toward the 2.5D packaging platform and leveraging of modular RDL interposer technology is likely to push it much ahead of other players in this space.

Zacks Investment Ideas feature highlights: MP Materials and Apple
For Immediate Release Chicago, IL – July 30, 2025– Today, Zacks Investment Ideas feature highlights MP Materials MP and Apple AAPL. MP Materials: A Rare Earth Commodity Rare earth elements (REEs) are a group of seventeen rare elements that are essential ingredients for a wide range of modern technologies due to their unique magnetic, luminescent, and electrochemical properties. Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) stock MP Materials is America's only vertically integrated rare earth producer. At its site in Mountain Pass, California, the company mainly mines and processes rare earth elements, particularly Neodymium-Praseodymium (NdPr), which are integral components in high-strength permanent magnets. These rare earth magnets are irreplaceable because, without them, it's impossible to produce electric vehicle motors, wind turbines, robotics, advanced defense systems, and a wide range of consumer electronics such as smartphones. Beyond its California mine, MP Materials is expanding its magnet manufacturing capacity with new facilities in Texas. MP Scores DoD Investment The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted to the world the fragility of the global supply chain. Although tensions between the US and China have cooled somewhat from their peak during the tariff standoff earlier this year, President Donald Trump has insisted that the US onshore and secure critical supply chain components, especially those needed for national security. Because rare earth elements are essential for defense and critical commercial applications, the Department of Defense (DoD) awarded MP Materials a lucrative contract in early July, which includes a $400 million investment in preferred stock and a $150 million loan to help the firm expand its processing capabilities. In addition, DoD has pledged to purchase all of MP's neodymium-praseodymium oxide production from its new facility, ensuring a minimum price that will be paid. Apple Commits $500 Million to MP Materials Tech giant Apple is one of the largest purchasers of rare earth elements globally. On July 15 th, Apple announced that it would invest $500 million into MP Materials to purchase American-made rare earth magnets. Additionally, Apple will use its endless resources to help establish a 'cutting-edge rare earth recycling line in Mountain Pass, California, and develop novel magnet materials and innovative processing technologies to enhance magnet performance.' MP Builds Rare, High-Tight Flag Chart Pattern When it comes to price action, power and distance are often correlated. Following the DoD contract, MP shares bolted 50% in a single trading session as trading volumes soared to seven times the norm. A few weeks later, shares jumped another 20% as volume soared following the Apple news. MP shares have now more than doubled over the past month, forming a classic high-tight flag pattern. While shares may seem extended to amateur investors, such patterns have historically led to robust gains, especially in companies with bullish catalysts like MP. MP Call Flow Deep-pocketed options traders have been piling into December $75 MP calls, suggesting high bullish conviction in the stock into year-end. Bottom Line MP Materials enjoys a monopoly on domestic US rare earth mining and production. In addition to its stranglehold on the rare earth market, MP stands to benefit from significant headwinds, including an investment from the US DoD, and a deal with Apple. Starbucks shares rise as CEO Niccol's turnaround efforts gain traction
Starbucks shares rose about five per cent before the bell on Wednesday as the coffee chain's strong quarterly sales signaled CEO Brian Niccol's turnaround plan was bearing fruit. A simplified menu and investments in store and labor operations were some of the highlights of Niccol's 'Back to Starbucks' initiative. The major brand reset follows several quarters of falling sales. 'It seems like the company is planning to be on offense next year once its new operating model is in place,' Morgan Stanley analysts said. Niccol, who took the helm in August, on Tuesday laid out plans to upgrade store design, including a lower-cost 'coffee house of the future' esthetic, and pledged more than half a billion dollars in investments for thousands of stores across the U.S. next year. 'The goal has shifted from an initial 'Back to Starbucks' to an appropriately ambitious goal for a 'Better Starbucks,' where everyone can experience the best of Starbucks,' J.P. Morgan analysts said in a note. Tariff uncertainty and elevated inflation have hit U.S. consumer sentiment, forcing some businesses to revamp their strategies. In Starbucks' North America market, its largest, quarterly same-store sales dropped two per cent, consistent with last year's decline. In China, same-store sales increased two per cent amid stiff competition from local rivals such as Luckin Coffee and Cotti Coffee. Starbucks has been exploring options such as strategic partnerships and joint ventures for its China business, which was valued at up to US$10 billion, according to media reports earlier this month. Following the results, at least seven brokerages raised their price targets on the stock. The company trades at a 12-month forward price-to-earnings ratio of 33.28. 'The turnaround has taken longer than we expected... but the efforts are coalescing and progress is being made. We think once these start working, the impact will be significant and pretty immediate,' BTIG analyst Peter Saleh said. Stellantis vows to reconnect with customers as it flags $2.4B Cdn tariff hit for 2025
Social Sharing Stellantis warned on Tuesday of a 1.5-billion euro (nearly $2.4-billion Cdn) hit from U.S. tariffs this year, but pledged new vehicle launches to reconnect with customers as its new CEO tries to get the automaker back on track after a dismal 2024. In his first public appearance as CEO, company veteran Antonio Filosa said the priority was to return to volume growth. "That means ... the expansion of our lineup with the addition of new products that are much closer to customer demands," he told analysts, citing a decision to reintroduce the popular Hemi eight-cylinder engine for Ram trucks. Milan-listed shares in Stellantis pared morning losses and rose up to 3.8 per cent after Filosa's call with analysts. They closed up 0.2 per cent. The French-Italian-American automaker forecast a low-single-digit margin on its adjusted operating income in the second half of 2025, following an "incredibly tough" first half. "First half was ... nowhere near where we want and need to be," Filosa said. "We still have tons of work to do. In particular, we are focused on bringing products back to segments where we have been absent," he added, without elaborating beyond the V8 Ram. Filosa was appointed in May after former boss Carlos Tavares was ousted in December following a disastrous performance last year in the crucial U.S. market. "I don't like blame, I like responsibility and accountability," Filosa told analysts. Stellantis' forecasts for the second half, which analysts described as vague, also include higher net revenues and improved industrial free cash flow compared with the first half, when it burned through 3 billion euros (nearly $4.8 billion) of cash. WATCH | Will Canada face higher U.S. tariffs if no trade deal by Friday?: Will Canada face higher U.S. tariffs if no trade deal by Friday? | Power & Politics 13 hours ago The company said the forecasts were based on tariff rules following a weekend trade agreement between the European Union and United States. The 1.5-billion-euro tariff impact — which includes 300 million euros (nearly $476 million) incurred in the first half — is at the higher end of a forecast range of 1.0 billion to 1.5 billion euros provided last week when Stellantis released preliminary figures for the first half, which were broadly confirmed on Tuesday. Challenges ahead Asked whether he was planning to streamline Stellantis sprawling portfolio of 15 brands, which includes Jeep, Peugeot, Chrysler and Fiat, Filosa said it was a "strength" against competitors. "We want to work it better. We want to be more effective and efficient in our brand portfolio management," he said. Stellantis in April withdrew its guidance for a moderate recovery this year after a 70 per cent net profit drop in 2024, due to the uncertain impact of U.S. tariffs. Sunday's EU-U.S. framework trade deal imposed a 15 per cent U.S. import tariff on most EU goods — half the threatened rate. Stellantis, however, is mostly exposed to the 25 per cent levy that the U.S. has imposed on Mexico and Canada, on top of an existing 2.5 per cent tariff, with more than 40 per cent of the 1.2 million vehicles it sold last year in the U.S. imported from those countries.
